Chapter 188 - A Change In Leadership

Taking their seats, Ranik was sort of excited about the future right now. Also, the fact that the Emperor was quite pleased with him meant that things were about to turn around for the Republic.

"Now, as for who I will send, I think somebody who can completely shift the tide of the war not just through their leadership, but with their presence will be perfect for the job." Said Daimon. He already had in mind who he would send.

"I truly want to see the Republic win this war, so I will send somebody who can assist you. That person in question will be one of the Progenitors."

Hearing this, Ranik's jaw almost dropped to the ground. The Progenitors were widely known across the galaxy as Daimon's hand-crafted warriors, designed to help him lead the Gen'Dai to the golden age.

And with Daimon being considered a God by many, the Progenitors were essentially demigods. Sending one of them was not something he even had on his mind. He expected maybe a High ranking General or Admiral, but not one of the highest ranked after the Emperor himself.

"The Progenitor's are not only the best tactical and strategic minds in the Imperium," Daimon said. "They inspire loyalty in people who have never known hope. They terrify enemies who thought they had no equal. Most importantly, they win."

Chancellor Ranik stared almost speechless. "May I ask which Progenitor?"

"The one I have in mind is Progenitor Nyssa Revar." Daimon replied.

"She helped the Republic rebuild after our war and has a lot of experience dealing with the Republic in General. She is a master of both war and peace, and I have no doubt that she will be able to fulfil her role. Under her, the Republic High Command can be reformed into what it was a thousand years ago or become even better." Ranik tried to picture the upcoming announcement to the Senate.

The news would be met with outrage by some, but he had not got to where he was by worrying about the outrage from the Senators. He only wanted results now, same as the people who lived across the Republic.

Plus, everybody knew Progenitor Nyssa as she was a frequent visitor to many events throughout the Republic. This was due to her being the Grand Minister of Diplomacy and with the Republic being the second-biggest interstellar empire, she was constantly in talks and meetings with them.

She also played a big role during the reconstruction of the Republic after the war which made her popular with the people of the Republic.

"How soon can she arrive?" Ranik asked eagerly to get things rolling. The sooner he could fix the military situation; the better things are going to look for the Republic.

"I'll have to meet with her and see, but she should be able to arrived within a week." replied Daimon.

Hearing that they would get her within a week, Ranik was surprised. He expected maybe at least a month considering how busy she might be.

"In addition to that, she will be accompanied by her honor guard, but that's it. You will have to supply her with a ship and anything else she might need."

Ranik nodded his head hearing these demands. They were pretty simple, and he was sure that her position as the Supreme Commander would allow her to get whatever she wanted, within means.

"I can agree with that. Honestly, I expected more considering who you're sending." Ranik said.

Daimon chuckled. "Well, there will probably be more demands in the future, but I can assure you that they will be as simple as the ones I just asked."

The two sat for a few moments longer, with the Chancellor filled with adrenaline, and Daimon eager to see how the Republic military will be reformed. Even Lord Maxim was eager to see if the future of the war was secured now that a Progenitor was being sent.

Ranik eventually broke the silence with a question that was on his mind. "Do you care which side wins this war?"

Daimon leaned back in his chair upon hearing the question. He already had an answer as he thought about this very question himself multiple times. "It is better for the galaxy if neither the Sith nor the Republic is destroyed outright. Unfortunately, the Sith were created from their hatred against the Republic and Jedi Order. This means that they will forever be led to try and destroy the Republic. If you make peace now, then they will try again later, and then it will be a never-ending repeat of war until one side is shattered. Even then, whichever side is shattered will eventually return in time."

Ranik nodded his head, taking in the words that Daimon spoke. He could guess that the Emperor was looking out for them but didn't want to do so directly for some unknown reason.

"I'm sure the Senate will have questions about this arrangement. But I am prepared to do what it takes to see this war turn in our favor."

"Good," Daimon said. "The Senate will have their own ideas about how to run the war, and if you let them do that, then the Republic will fall within a year."

Ranik nodded. "Thank you for the advice, and for this meeting," Raik said, standing up followed by his entourage. The Vice Chancellor who had just listened to the conversation between the two was still half shocked about the outcome of the meeting. He had been trying to find a moment to interject, but the conversation was going so well that he just kept his mouth shut and listened.

As the delegation reached the lift, Daimon stopped Ranik with a hand on his shoulder. "When the war is over. Come back. We will discuss what comes after peace." Ranik nodded and then got into the lift.

As the doors slid closed, Daimon turned to Maxim. "Looks like the war is about to get interesting."

Maxim nodded, agreeing with him. He imagined that initially the Republic would be skeptical of such a move, but after a few weeks and months, things will turn around.

Four days later, Progenitor Nyssa Revar transferred her responsibilities to her second and departed on a transport ship to Coruscant.

She left behind her Ascendant Legion and her diplomatic corps and brought two personnel aids and 20 members of her honor guard.

They arrived on Coruscant about 20 hours later and landed at the Senate building where she was to be introduced to and confirmed by the Senate as the new Supreme Commander of the Republic forces.

Chancellor Ranik was standing at the center as Progenitor Nyssa walked in followed by her entourage.

As she walked in, all eyes were on her. It wasn't the first time she had been in these chambers, and it wouldn't be the last. Many around the room were surprised since they were expecting a Republic officer to be the new Supreme Commander and not somebody like Progenitor Nyssa.

"I introduce Progenitor Nyssa Revar, the Grand Minister of Diplomacy for the Veldari Imperium. She is here after I have requested assistance from the Imperium as they are partially the cause of our military weakness. The restraints that they put on us have allowed the Sith to encroach on our borders. Based off of this, I asked the Emperor to send us a seasoned officer to help rebuild our High Command." He paused as the room was eager to hear how a Progenitor got sent instead of a seasoned officer like he said.

"The Emperor asked me some questions, basically trying to see where my head was. I answered truthfully, and he was extremely happy with what I said and thus decided to send Progenitor Nyssa as per my request." Understanding how things came to be, the Senators didn't know what to think of the matter.

Sure, she was a Progenitor, but they had never seen or heard of her war feats. The reason for this was because her last time truly engaged in war was against the Abominor. She didn't really fight much during the war with the Republic and has largely spent her shaping the Imperium's diplomacy.

But what the Senators were forgetting was the fact that she was a Progenitor. Forged for war, molded by Daimon's own vision, and capable of commanding vast armies. She had simply chosen diplomacy over carnage since she was of age, which showed that she had a preference for politics, which was not a weakness.

One of the Senators, a human from one of the Core worlds, had voiced what a few others were thinking. "Is it wise to place our defense in the hands of someone whose loyalty belongs elsewhere?"

It was an appropriate question to ask, especially since this affected the future of the Republic. "My loyalty is the Veldari Imperium and the Emperor," She stated. "But my purpose here is to help the people of the Republic from the Sith invasion. So, while my loyalty my lie elsewhere, it is my duty as a Progenitor to carry out the will of the Emperor. If you have doubts, make them known now. Many of you know me, so I would rather face open skepticism than honeyed words at my back."

The room went silent upon hearing her response. Next, a Bothan Senator stood up. "Can you win?" was all he asked.

Nyssa replied. "Yes, I can." she was going to say more, but she didn't see a need for it.

The Senator sat down, seeing no hesitation in her eyes. He was a former officer, and he could tell when soldiers actually believed the words that they were saying.

The Chancellor continued on with various Senators asking question after question. But after a while, it was clear that every question she answered only increased their opinion of her and her chances of being accepted.

Eventually, the Chancellor wrapped up the session, formally introducing Nyssa. "Then let it be so. Supreme Command Revar, the war is yours." There were some additional things that had to be done, so they finished them up.

Outside the chamber, Nyssa wasted no time settling into her new position. She summoned all the surviving Republic admirals, generals, intelligence heads, and every surviving Jedi Master and Knight who had commanded more than a brigade in battle.

Every one of them received a time and place by the end of the day of where to meet. The message was simple: Show up or don't bother coming back, because there will be nothing left to command.
