Chapter 33 - Chapter 33

As the Weird Sisters took the stage amid cheers and applause, Hermione and I stood up along with Cedric and Cho, Fleur and Roger Davies, and Krum and his date.

We positioned ourselves at the edge of the cleared dance floor, ready to open the evening's festivities as the champions and their partners.

The music began, a lively melody that filled the Great Hall with energy and Hermione and I exchanged a quick smile as the music started, both of us confident and eager after all the practice we'd put in.

I took her hand in mine, my other hand settling gently on her waist. As the music filled the air, we began to sway in time with its rhythm.

Hermione moved gracefully, her steps perfectly in sync with mine as we glided across the floor. Despite the crowd of eyes watching, neither of us felt nervous. We had rehearsed this, and it showed. Every step and turn felt natural, a smooth rhythm carrying us through the dance.

"You're doing great," Hermione said softly, her tone light and teasing.

"So are you," I replied with a grin. "Not that I expected anything less."

Around us, the other champions and their partners danced with varying degrees of skill and enthusiasm, but I barely noticed.

Hermione and I were completely in tune with each other, and the joy in her expression made the moment all the more memorable.

As the opening dance concluded to a round of enthusiastic applause, the other students eagerly stepped onto the dance floor to join in.

Hermione and I stepped back to the edge of the dance floor, catching our breath while still riding the high of the performance.

"That was wonderful," Hermione said, a bright smile lighting up her face.

"You were amazing," I replied earnestly. "Guess all that practice paid off."

She laughed softly. "You weren't half bad yourself, Potter."

I grinned but didn't respond, instead offering my hand again. "Shall we keep going? Or would you like to take a break?

Hermione glanced toward the refreshment table, where a few students were already gathering. "Maybe just one more dance before we rest," she decided.

We moved back onto the dance floor as the song shifted to a much faster one.

The lively tempo had everyone moving with abandon, laughter, and cheers filling the room. Hermione and I exchanged amused glances before diving into the playful rhythm.

Gone was the formal elegance of the opening dance; this was pure fun.

Hermione twirled with unexpected enthusiasm, her laughter contagious as I spun her back toward me.

I noticed Fred and Angelina dancing off to one side with so much energy that the other students had instinctively given them a wide berth, creating a private stage just for them.

As songs continued to change, we continued to dance and have fun changing our dance style to suit whatever music was being played.

As the song came to a dramatic end, the room erupted in cheers and applause.

Breathless, Hermione leaned closer. "Okay," she panted, smiling. "Now I think it's time for that break."

I nodded. "Agreed. Let's grab something to drink before the next song pulls us back in."

With that, we made our way toward the refreshment table, still laughing and catching our breath.

As we approached the refreshment table, I noticed the crowd had grown even larger, with students eagerly grabbing drinks and snacks.

Hermione and I made our way through the group, eventually reaching a quieter corner where a large punch bowl stood. A few other students were gathered around, chatting softly as they sipped their drinks.

I handed Hermione a glass and grabbed one for myself. We leaned against the table, still catching our breath from the dancing.

"That was definitely one of the most fun things we have done in Hogwarts, it would be nice if they made it an annual event." Hermione said, her eyes sparkling.

I nodded in agreement, taking a sip of my drink. "Yeah, it's been a night to remember. It's nice to have a break from everything else going on."

Hermione smiled, glancing back toward the dance floor, where students continued to dance and laugh. "I agree. We could all use a bit of fun like this now and then."

We stood there for a moment, enjoying the lively atmosphere of the ball, before Hermione turned to me with a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"Ready for one more dance?" she asked.

I grinned, already anticipating the next song. "Let's do it."

We danced a little longer, occasionally joining in with other groups as the music changed. I noticed Ron struggling with his dance partner in one corner, his awkward movements causing some chuckles from nearby students.

Neville was doing his best, though his clumsy steps with Ginny were hard to miss. A few of the professors had even joined in, surprising everyone with their own dance moves.

As the night wore on and the ball began to wind down, Hermione and I drifted away from the stage, moving to a quieter corner to catch our breath and chat some more.

"It's hot, isn't it?" Hermione said, fanning herself with her hand. Her cheeks were a bit pink from all the dancing.

"Do you want to step outside into the garden for a bit?" I suggested, noticing the cooler air beyond the doors.

Hermione nodded, a grateful smile crossing her face. "That sounds perfect," she said, and we both made our way toward the exit, slipping outside into the cool night air.

The garden was peaceful, the fairy lights twinkling in the trees and the soft sound of the night creating a calm atmosphere. We walked along the path, the crunch of the gravel beneath our feet the only sound as we made our way deeper into the garden.

Hermione sighed contentedly as she took in the quiet surroundings. "I needed this," she said, her voice soft.

"Me too," I agreed, glancing over at her. "It's nice to get away from the noise for a bit."

We found a bench under a tree, and I sat down first, patting the space next to me. Hermione sat beside me, and for a while, we just enjoyed the peace. She rested her head against the back of the bench, looking up at the starry sky, before moving her head towards me.

Hermione smiled, her eyes meeting mine. "I'm really glad we did this together, Harry. I don't think I could have imagined this night any better."

I looked at her while smiling. "I'm glad too, Hermione. It wouldn't have been the same without you."

There was a brief silence as we just looked at each other, the tension which has been building between us now we both could feel it. My heart beat faster, and it felt like the world had slowed down, just the two of us.

Then, almost without thinking, I leaned toward her. Hermione didn't move away, her gaze shifting between my eyes and my lips.

I brushed a strand of hair from her face and closed the gap between us. Her breath caught, and then, our lips met soft and slow at first. But it didn't stay that way for long. The kiss deepened, and it felt good, like something I'd been waiting for.

I could feel my chest heating up and the noise of the world seemed to fade, leaving just us in the quiet of the garden, under the stars, with the soft breeze around us.

When we finally pulled apart, both of us a little breathless, I saw a faint blush on Hermione's cheeks.

After the kiss, we sat in silence for a while, both of us processing the moment. The atmosphere between us felt different now, more intimate, and I could still feel the warmth of her touch lingering on my lips.

Hermione broke the silence first, her voice soft. "Wow. That was… unexpected," she said, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.

I couldn't help but smile back. "Yeah, I didn't plan for it, but I'm glad it happened."

She let out a soft laugh, her eyes twinkling as she looked at me. "Me too. It's just… I wasn't sure where we were headed, but now it feels like everything's sort of… fallen into place."

I nodded, feeling a quiet sense of relief. "Yeah, it's like things are a bit clearer now." I shifted slightly, giving her a small grin. "Kind of makes the night feel even more special, doesn't it?"

Hermione smiled back, her eyes soft." Yes it does."

We sat in silence for a bit longer, the stars above us twinkling in the clear sky. There was no rush to fill the silence, no pressure to say anything more.

It was as if the kiss had said everything that needed to be said, and now we could just enjoy being in each other's presence.

Eventually, Hermione sighed contentedly and stretched out her legs. "This feels… nice. Peaceful."

I agreed, a soft smile tugging at my lips. "Yeah, it does."

She looked at me then, a playful glint in her eyes. "Think we've spent enough time away from the ball?"

I chuckled, standing up and offering her my hand. "If you want to go back, we can."

Hermione smiled, her eyes warm. "Yeah. Let's go."

So with that decided, we finally started making our way back to the Great Hall. When we returned, the lively music and laughter greeted us again, and we were ready to rejoin the fun, but somehow, the night already felt complete.
