They'd trembled because his current Dimensional Keeper legacy stood closer to the true source than their inherited fragments ever could.
The First Progenitor looked at him quietly, then smiled. There was no pride in that smile. Only pity.
"I didn't expect it," he said softly. "Even after countless generations, one of my descendants would once again become the carrier of the legacy."
Max's eyes sharpened. "One of your descendants?"
The man nodded. "Voidwalker blood flows in you. Faint after so many generations, mixed with plenty of other powers, buried beneath bloodlines even I can't fully read, but it's still there."
