The ship advanced to dock at the harbor, while men began lowering the sails to reduce speed. The sailors' voices echoed as they gave orders, while the ship slowed down, heading toward one of the docks.
Most of the people at the dock watched the vessel arrive, already preparing to help and earn a few coins, while sailors jumped onto the deck to run to the ropes and begin rolling them up together with the others.
The ship finally docked.
"We finally arrived. Men, you may call our guests," said the captain.
Inside the ship, two people shared a cabin. "Let's go," said the female voice, covering her face with the cloak.
The man nodded silently, and the two left the cabin before someone came to call him.
"Three years, Madara... three years since we came to this continent, and two and a half years in this world," Ciri murmured.
"I know. We were right to think we wouldn't be able to return."
"You wanted the unicorn to have managed to bring us back. We would've come immediately," Ciri's dissatisfied voice sounded.
"Yes... but it wasn't that simple either," he replied. "You know we were trapped with the unicorn's corpse in that world, until we learned how to leave that place, and we could've returned earlier, but we had to do other things."
"I know... but we finally got rid of one of our problems too, if you think about it. It was worth it... And we also dealt with those elves during that time as well..."
"I doubt they'll bother us after what we did in their world. I had already devastated their capital three years ago," Madara replied.
The story of their last three years had been made of highs and lows. The unicorn had no way to bring them back to their world because it had simply died.
Tampering with time was something that consumed its life. It had died to allow Ciri to maintain the current present and keep Madara alive in this era, so that she could save the world... or rather, the worlds.
When Madara pulled her out of that water in the cave, the unicorn quickly warned that it did not have much time left and would soon die.
It had no way to take them back to this world, because it no longer had the strength, but it asked Madara to gather as much information as possible.
And that was exactly what he did. He used the Sharingan and copied all the knowledge, including every known technique and ability related to traveling between worlds.
He passed it on to Ciri afterward. And they spent an entire month in that world training solely so Ciri could open a portal. Day after day, Ciri trained everything she could about space and time, while practicing opening portals.
Madara was lucky to possess a large stockpile of resources in his scrolls, in that desert world. They even trained so Ciri could control more of her power, but it was still very difficult.
He basically stayed helping her, because he did not have complete control over traveling between worlds. All he could do was follow Ciri's traces through her blood. And they replenished that stockpile, Ciri left another supply of blood in Madara's hands, so that if something happened, he would have a way to find her.
And so the days passed with only the two of them as the sole living beings in that world. That world was perfect for him and Ciri to unleash their uncontrolled power. They did that for many days during that month.
Until Ciri finally managed to open a portal to other worlds.
But they did not go through the portal, she wanted to stabilize that ability and they also did not know what they would find on the other side of the portals, so they remained there for another month, devastating part of the planet without needing to hold back in order to grow stronger.
Ciri stayed there, becoming more and more accustomed to her own power. It was then, after two months had passed since the unicorn died, that they finally decided to explore the universe.
They began traveling between worlds until they managed to return to their own world.
They encountered all kinds of worlds during those travels. They even saw universes of various colors and possibilities. Madara even recognized some of them as stories he knew from his original world, before becoming Madara.
He even went to the original world of the character he had become, the world of Naruto.
It was a somewhat strange experience and they caused quite an impression there.
There were many worlds they simply observed in silence. In others, they ended up enjoying themselves more, but peacefully. Since Madara had prior knowledge of many of them, he knew how they worked.
In some worlds, they participated in a positive way.
And some they simply devastated, since certain places truly deserved it. They encountered people who thought themselves gods, but who in the end were merely flesh waiting to be destroyed.
The influence of the two altered many worlds during the brief moments they stayed there. And so they remained for two years, growing more and more powerful.
During all of this, Madara had finally reached 100% of the system.
It was after two years of traveling that they found a clue, the elves were after them once again, although it was only to spy on them and report back to their superiors, but that only led them to the world of the Aen Elle elves, which was the key to finding the way back to Ciri and Madara's original world.
Consequently, they wasted no time and attacked those arrogant elves with full force. Madara and Ciri devastated the world of the elves together.
They obtained the key to return home, but instead of going to the main continent, Madara and Ciri went directly to where that monster was hiding in that world, on the continent where the shinobi existed.
And they spent months fighting on the other continent until they finally reached the final battle against the woman who was a member of the Otsutsuki clan.
No one in that world had any idea what was happening on that side of the sea.
Ciri helped Madara, while they made the earth tremble with every blow, devastating that entire continent until they finally defeated the Otsutsuki once and for all, freeing the world from that plague.
Afterward, they spent two months recovering, because the battle had not been won without consequences. Even with their regeneration techniques, they had to recover some of their abilities.
Then they finally teleported to that side of the sea, but not directly, wanting to know what was happening on the continent and gather some information. That was why they stopped in Skellige first.
They did not visit Mousesack, or King Bran, who seemed to be dying. First they needed to check something, and they would return once they had gone to see a few things.
They were in Skellige yesterday. While traveling across the sea, they found a ship heading to Novigrad and boarded it.
Madara cast a genjutsu on the crew, making them believe they were customers who had paid for the trip.
While gathering information, they could have entered the city in many ways, there were still kunai with the Hiraishin hidden throughout the city, Madara could sense them, but they chose to enter as ordinary people arriving on a merchant ship, so that the spies would not find the appearance of two people suspicious.
From what they understood, the situation in Novigrad was not very good.
They walked together toward the ship's deck, when the captain looked at them kindly. "Welcome to Novigrad, the most libertine place in the North," he said.
"Thank you, captain. We're leaving," Madara simply replied, tossing a bag with more than 1000 coins, while moving toward the plank, with Ciri following right behind him.
They still advanced wearing cloaks to hide their faces and entered a bar at the docks.
"You can no longer allow any non-humans in here, understand?!"
"How can you do this? None of this existed until a few months ago!" a girl working there shouted at the men carrying clubs.
"The management is different now. The Eternal Fire rules the city now. You are no longer to serve anything to non-humans in this establishment, otherwise you'll be dealing with us," he threatened.
The girl looked frustrated, but no one said anything. Everyone was afraid of those men.
"So this is how it is..." Madara murmured. He and Ciri were already staring at the men.
"Let's gather information before drawing too much attention," he said to Ciri, since she clearly wanted to attack those men.
"Fine..." Ciri accepted Madara's request, with the two heading to a corner to sit down.
The waitress finally saw them and walked over to serve them. "How can I help you?" she asked.
Madara remembered that waitress. He knew her from the game, it was Bea, she would help Ciri if she had followed the original timeline. Ciri would have met her to help her get to Dandelion.
"Bring three beers," Madara requested.
She nodded, despite the number not matching the couple, and went to get them.
"You think she can give us some information?" Ciri asked, when Madara could simply...
"Yes. I already have some information from a few people who looked at us when we came here. But I think sometimes, we can solve things with a conversation." Madara said, he had already gotten some idea of what was happening in the city from the people at the docks, as he activated his Sharingan and collected information with every glance directed at him, without them noticing.
"There will be an event at the end of the afternoon. I want to spend a night here in Novigrad." Madara added.
Ciri seemed like she wanted to protest, but said nothing. Madara took her hand and squeezed it with some tenderness.
"I know you want to go south, to see Aren, but it feels like something is telling me we should stay here tonight. At least this night. We'll go see our son tomorrow morning, I promise," Madara said.
It had been three years since they had seen Aren. Ciri was very careful not to get pregnant again during that period, using herbs and all kinds of pills they collected from worlds or that Madara had with him, because they had been traveling between worlds. The dangers were immeasurable.
There was no way to try to raise a child in that kind of lifestyle. And during the last year, they had to deal with both the Wild Hunt and the member of the Otsutsuki clan hidden in that world.
But Aren had never left their minds. Ciri always brought up the subject every single day. She could only agree while the two talked about how the boy might be doing, how he must be growing.
And now they were finally there. Ciri seemed nervous.
Her fear and worries had increased over the last few days, while they were returning to the continent.
"What if he doesn't recognize us? What if he rejects me for thinking we abandoned him?" she said, unable to hide her anxiety.
"Maybe he really does think that. And he would have every right to..." Madara said. "But we'll be different from now on... Tomorrow we'll go together to the temple, to see our little boy, who should be three years old now..."
They hoped he was still being protected in the temple, that Nenneke was taking care of all the boy's needs. That Geralt, Yennefer, Mousesack, and even Vesemir, had been visiting him constantly, as Madara and Ciri had asked before disappearing from that world. That they had explained why they left and had not returned yet...
The girl, Bea, finally brought the beers, placing one for Madara and another for Ciri. But with the third one, she did not know what to do.
"Put it on the empty chair and sit with us." The woman froze.
"We saw how those men treated you. We want to know about the city." Madara added.
Despite the sadness about Aren, Ciri quickly changed her posture. "You know... my husband had worked hard to change this city, for many months, pacifying it and keeping it out of reach of the Eternal Fire's madness, but now... that plague has returned..." Ciri said, catching the woman even more by surprise with those words.
"We just returned to the continent. It's been years since we've been here. We want to understand what happened, because I intend to intervene tonight... or perhaps in the coming days."
They were going to visit Aren, but they also needed to see the situation of the continent.
They would visit Aren and stay with him for a while, it would be easy and they could even take action while using the teleportation Madara had named.
They could now protect their son and solve the problems of that world.
The girl seemed interested as she sat down.
"Who are you?" she asked carefully.
Madara and Ciri looked at each other and smiled. He had come to the conclusion that it was time to announce their arrival.
"My name is Madara Uchiha... and before me is my wife, Cirilla Fiona."
Madara said it but did not pull down his hood. Certainly people would already look at them and spread the information if they had seen their appearance. They could cause trouble for that woman.
The girl froze when she saw him reveal the glowing red eyes inside the dark hood. There was only one person with red eyes and patterns like those in the entire continent.
Rumors, legends, and even wanted posters spoke of them.
It was difficult not to recognize him.
There was even an image of him there on a wall of posters inside the bar: the same red eyes, with the exact same pattern.
"At least they finally made a good drawing of us," Ciri commented with a dry laugh.
She saw something written on the poster: "Any information regarding the man using these eyes will be generously rewarded by King Radovid and also by the Church of the Eternal Fire. Long live King Radovid."
Which meant that Radovid's father had died during those three years. Something that certainly made Madara thoughtful, had Philippa done it this time?
Bea finally regained her composure. "You two... you two are the most wanted people on the continent," she murmured, almost unable to believe it.
"We're already used to it," Ciri replied in an amused tone while drinking her beer.
"From what I understood, the former captain of the city guard was arrested by the Eternal Fire. He'll be burned alive at the end of the afternoon," Bea said.
The expressions of the two already said everything. Both of them darkened, especially Madara.
"Yes. They discovered he is a doppler... a monster that can transform, shocking everyone by revealing that throughout all these years, he had been a monster in disguise the entire time. They captured him a week ago and intend to burn him alive in the square," she explained.
Madara and Ciri looked at each other. "Dudu..."
"Looks like we have work to do," Ciri replied.
Dudu was an investment Madara had made to maintain order in that city. He had made Dudu increase his popularity by working for him and solving problems, so the city would not reach the same state of disorder as in the original timeline.
Before the Aretuza event, Madara caused the death of the high priestess and leader of the Eternal Fire, imprisoned in the capital, but with no one able to blame him. Madara knew how dangerous that man was, always hiding in the capital of Redania. So Madara had applied a fungus to him, just as he had done with others when he wanted to kill silently, although whoever he made his victims die...
In any case, he would have to investigate.
A new High Septon had been declared in that bar, and this one seemed even more radical. He needed to see how things were.
The brothel he had bought for Zoltan to manage and his Dandelion should still be in the city.
"So can you give us more information about the man called Dudu?" he asked.
She nodded, beginning to give them information while also drinking her beer.
She needed courage to speak with those two people. When everyone thought they were dead, they suddenly appeared in that dockside bar.
