Do you believe in God?
The first time I heard that name was when I was young, a lot younger than I am now at least. Mother used to tell me about God all the time, always saying, "God was watching over us." Although I was a bit skeptical when it came down to whether or not I could believe that. After all, what kind of person would spend all his time watching boring and ordinary people like us? I'd always thought that if he was as all powerful as she said, he'd have an interest in things of far greater prestige and value, not lowbloods like us.
But Mom said my way of thinking was wrong. She said it was precisely because he was above everything else that he'd be interested in us. She would tell me that his benevolence was boundless, that he'd watch over and protect even lowbloods like us who were stuck in the Warrens.
Mom completely believed all of this and, because of that, I chose to believe it too. I loved Mother after all.
