The elevator doors chimed open. Viola stepped out in a hurry, the heels of her shoes clicking against the corridor floor in a rhythm that mirrored the chaos in her mind. The moment she reached her apartment door, her fingers trembled slightly as she entered the access code.

The door opened, and the first thing she saw was Emilie standing near the large living room window with her arms folded across her chest. Her manager's face looked worn out, traces of last night's worry still clearly visible in her eyes.
"Viola! For God's sake, where have you been?" Emilie rushed toward her before Viola even had the chance to put her bag down. "I was this close to calling the police if you hadn't answered your phone earlier!"
Viola only let out a long sigh. She tossed her bag onto the sofa and collapsed onto it herself. Resting her head against the cushion, she squeezed her eyes shut. "I was trapped, Emilie."
