Chapter 33 - Abyssal Devourer

"Uh this may take a while Nox" Looking around Lilith's face lit up in surprise Nox had not returned yet. This means he's still alive. Glancing once more around towards the caves massive craters were formed around the caves entrance including hers.

The Entrance to the cave was sealed off by all of the debris the rocks complete sealed the cave tight. Looking over Lilith spotted nox and what appeared to be the abyssal devourer

Noxes left arm was gone and he was bruised and bleeding all over he looked like he had only a few minutes left of life in him his skin as pale as snow.

Appearing behind Nox, it launched an attack — but before the strike could land, Nox was already mid-kick, driving his foot perfectly into its side and sending it flying. Yet before it even hit the ground, the creature vanished once again.

A claw approaching his heart Nox dodged almost completely a small slit appeared on his arm.

Nox's mind raced

'this guy, I've been fighting him for hours he doesn't even seem slightly hurt for that matter he doesn't seem to be running out of stamina either. His skins to hard to Whenever I hit him he just comes right back even a pull powered punch does nothing I've also landed a few blows with my sword his amor is to strong for my blade to even make a scratch.

The Abyssal Devourer reappeared, this time directly above Nox, its jaws splitting unnaturally wide, rows of needle-thin teeth glistening with venom. With a guttural roar, it dove, intent on ending him.

Nox surged forward, rolling beneath the creature as it slammed into the ground, its impact cracking the stone floor beneath them. He came up behind it, instantly launching a counterattack — a brutal upward slash aimed at the back of its exposed neck. Sparks erupted as his blade scraped uselessly against the creature's armored hide.

'Damn it!' Nox gritted his teeth, narrowly ducking as the beast's tail whipped toward him like a spiked lance, the air howling with its force. The tail struck a nearby pillar, obliterating it into shards.

The beast vanished again.

Nox didn't wait — he pivoted instantly, anticipating the next strike. And there it was — materializing at his flank with blinding speed. Nox unleashed a desperate flurry: three rapid strikes, each carrying everything he had left. Sparks flew again, but the armor held.

The Devourer's massive claw slammed into his ribs, launching him across the cavern like a ragdoll. He hit the far wall with a sickening crack, a spray of blood erupting from his mouth as he crumpled to the ground.

Through blurry vision, he could barely make out the beast stalking toward him — slow, deliberate, savoring his inevitable end.

'I can't… keep up.'

But even now, his fingers refused to release the sword.

He forced himself upright, wobbling on unsteady legs. The Devourer charged again, but Nox, through sheer reflex, hurled his sword like a spear. The blade spun, whistling through the air — striking the beast directly between its eyes. The blade snapped in half, shards flying, leaving only a small dent in the creature's armored skull.

It paused only for a heartbeat. Then, with a roar, it leapt at him again.

Nox clenched his remaining fist, pouring what little strength he had into one final strike. As it descended, he sidestepped at the last possible second, driving his fist up into its side with enough force to shake the entire cavern — yet again, nothing more than a bruise on its impossible flesh.

The Devourer's claws carved into his shoulder and chest, lifting him from the ground and slamming him down hard enough to crater the stone beneath him. Bones shattered. His breathing became wet, rattling.

Yet still — he moved.

Lilith, watching from the shadows, didn't dare intervene yet. She waited — eyes sharp — searching for any weakness. But none came. The beast was simply too strong, too durable. She had to wait for the perfect moment. One window. One desperate chance.

The Devourer reared back, preparing the killing blow. Its jaws glowed faintly with corrupt mana, charging a blast capable of vaporizing the broken human beneath it.

That was her moment.

Lilith exploded from her hiding place in a blur of speed, the bloodied shard in her hand gleaming as she lunged. She appeared above the beast mid-leap, slamming the shard down into its skull with everything she had — an earth-shaking impact that sent a massive shockwave rippling through the cavern.

For a moment, it worked. The creature staggered, stumbling back as a hairline crack appeared in its armored shell — the first visible damage either of them had inflicted.

But it didn't fall.

With a howl of rage, it spun wildly, its tail whipping out and catching Lilith mid-air. She was launched across the cavern, slamming into the far wall with enough force to leave a crater. Blood poured from her mouth as she fell limp.

Nox, seeing her collapse, roared with the last of his strength. Black Bloodlust surged around him — unstable, violent — as he charged one final reckless assault. He struck low, crashing into the creature's midsection with a burst of power, briefly lifting the beast off its feet.

But even nox couldn't crush what refused to break.

The Devourer landed and immediately countered. Its claws struck like guillotines — slashing deeply across Nox's chest. His vision flashed white as his body gave out. He collapsed, his head hitting the stone as blood pooled beneath him.

Both warriors lay broken, motionless, as the Abyssal Devourer slowly loomed over them, victorious, untouched — its chest barely rising as if the entire battle had been nothing more than sport.

The cavern fell silent.

The Pit had claimed them once again.
