The sun hung lazily in the sky, casting golden rays over the winding highway as a sleek black SUV sped down the road. Inside, the atmosphere was anything but calm. Wanda, Jean, Storm, Natasha, Gwen, and Talia were packed into the car, their luggage crammed in the back like an afterthought. The road ahead stretched endlessly, leading them back to New York City and the chaos that awaited them at Stark Tower.
But for now? It was just six women on a road trip, which meant one thing—absolute, unfiltered madness.
"I still don't get why we're driving," Storm grumbled from the passenger seat, her arms crossed as she stared out the window with mild disdain. "I'm not used to traveling like this. I fly, you know."
The car collectively groaned.
"Must be nice," Wanda deadpanned from the driver's seat, keeping her eyes on the road. "Flying through the clouds like some majestic weather goddess. Meanwhile, the rest of us peasants have to rely on good old-fashioned air conditioning."
Jean snorted from the back. "Honestly, after living in a Hydra bunker for who knows how long like Wanda, I'm with her. I'll take climate control over smog and bird strikes any day."
"Bird strikes?" Gwen asked, raising an eyebrow.
"You'd be surprised," Wanda muttered, smirking as she changed lanes.
Natasha leaned forward from the middle row, her elbow resting on the console. "I don't know. There's something oddly comforting about road trips. The smell of cheap gas station coffee, the questionable bathroom stops…"
Talia groaned, burying her face in her hands. "Please don't remind me. I still haven't recovered from that truck stop in Yonkers"
Storm raised an eyebrow. "Oh, you mean the one with the five-star facilities?"
"Don't even," Talia shot back, making everyone laugh.
The SUV hummed along, the rhythmic thrum of the tires on asphalt becoming the soundtrack to their banter. The tension of their recent battles faded into the background, replaced by the easy camaraderie of friends who had survived too much together to let the little things get in their way.
But of course, it wouldn't be a true road trip without something going wrong.
Hours into their drive and being stuck in traffic resulted in the fuel gauge dipping dangerously close to empty, and Wanda sighed, pulling off at a dusty gas station just off the highway. The sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, casting long shadows across the cracked pavement.
As Wanda parked the SUV, a massive semi-truck rumbled into the lot, its horn blaring obnoxiously as it pulled up to the adjacent pump. Two burly truckers leaned out of the cab, their eyes immediately locking onto the group as they stepped out of the car.
"Well, well, what do we have here?" one of the truckers called out, his grin wide and unapologetic. "Hey, baby, nice ass!"
The other chuckled, elbowing his friend. "Yeah, where you girls headed? Need some real men to show you the way?"
Wanda exchanged a glance with the girls, her lips curling into a mischievous smirk. Without missing a beat, she called back, "Thanks for noticing! My girls do have nice asses."
Jean choked on her water, her face turning a brilliant shade of red. Gwen let out a strangled laugh, while Natasha just rolled her eyes, muttering something about "classic Wanda." Talia looked like she was trying to decide between laughing or hiding behind the car.
But Storm? Storm didn't miss a beat.
She raised an eyebrow, her expression as stoic as ever, and said, "Damn right my ass is fine."
The truckers blinked, clearly not expecting that kind of confidence. One of them opened his mouth to say something else, but thought better of it when Wanda casually twirled a crowbar in her hand, letting them she now wields the official weapon of New Yorker's everywhere.
They muttered something under their breath, quickly turning back to their truck as the girls burst into laughter.
"You're impossible," Jean giggled, wiping tears from her eyes.
"And you love it," Wanda shot back, grinning as she pumped gas into the SUV.
With the tank full and spirits high, the group piled back into the SUV, the city lights of New York just a few hours away traffic jams willing. The banter continued, flowing effortlessly as they shared stories, teased each other, and made plans for their return to the chaos that awaited them.
"So, what's the first thing you're doing when we get back?" Natasha asked, glancing at Gwen.
"Probably dealing with my dad," Gwen muttered, rolling her eyes. "Chief Stacy is going to flip when he finds out I've been gone this long."
Wanda smirked, glancing at Gwen in the rearview mirror. "Oh, come on. How bad can it be?"
Gwen shot her a look. "You've never met my dad."
"Well," Jean chimed in, grinning, "I think a certain someone should go meet him."
The car erupted into laughter as Gwen groaned, burying her face in her hands. "You're all the worst."
But despite the teasing, there was an undercurrent of excitement buzzing beneath the surface. They were heading back to the city, back to the chaos, back to Stark Tower—but this time, they weren't just a group of individuals. They were a team, a family, and nothing could stand in their way.
As the SUV pulled into the Stark Tower parking garage, the city skyline glittered above them, a reminder of the challenges and adventures that lay ahead. Wanda cut the engine, and for a brief moment, they all sat in comfortable silence, staring out at the familiar cityscape.
"Home sweet home," Wanda murmured, her voice soft but filled with determination.
Jean reached over, squeezing her hand. "Let's make sure it stays that way."
Storm nodded, a rare smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "Agreed."
As they stepped out of the SUV, the weight of their journey settled over them—not as a burden, but as a reminder of everything they'd overcome and everything they still had to face.
But for now? They were together.
