Chapter 5 - Fighting

He awoke again in his cage. It was no different when he had woken up and come to this human-built place earlier. However, the Beast felt much different. He now realized - this place wasn't malevolent. No, not to someone like him. It was food. And peace. He did not have to search for food. He only had to fight for it. He ate only in the gravel ground and the roars of the humans. But that was more than enough.

He sat silently in his cage, observing those who remained with him in the chamber. And he did so for hours and hours. He did not mind being on his own. He had spent much longer in the dark, on his own, after all.

Once again, after sitting in silence for countless hours, the men came back and attached metal to his cage, dragging it across the ground.

He approached the gates again, and they opened, and he could hear the roaring of humans. His gaze turned up to see his next meal. His next prey.

This time, it was humans. Many of them. Large, muscular, and covered in scars. Just like the ones that had dragged his cage.

They carried weapons of crude metal, crafted not for fighting but for farming. But many of the humans held the tools like a sword set to slay a dragon - their demeanor confident and headstrong.

Three of the men approached him. One swung his weapon directly at the beast, and he dodged, his claws coming forward in a cruel riposte that tore its way through the head of the human. He brought his hand up to his mouth and licked off the remains of the human. The others looked horrified, their expressions no longer stalwart even after just a few seconds of combat.

This time, the Beast lunged, dashing at one of the humans and grabbing him by the abdomen, his clawed hand wrapping itself entirely around the human's stomach. He lifted the human with ease, eagerly chomped his head off, then spat out the bones.

A human came behind him, and he did not see it in time. A tool scraped his back, bloodying his fur and causing a gash upon his skin. The Beast did not look upon the human. Instead, he swiped his hand behind him, sending him to the ground and crushing his skull with the force. These humans were pathetic. There were so many of them, and they were so large, yet they were slow and could not see even the simplest movements the beast committed to.

The rest of the humans looked terrified now. And the crowd was roaring. The Beast loved that sound.

He eagerly finished the rest of the men off as if they were lambs to the jaws of a wolf.

And this time, he did not need to be brought unconscious to return to his cage. No, he simply walked back to the gates and back into the darkness.
