[Flashback to Katsuko's past life, 1 year before his death…]
Katsuko had a problematic attitude that made him prone to fights, especially at school. He only had a single father, who was a workaholic trying to get by. He didn't have any siblings, and his mother had passed away when he was in elementary. Because of the lack of attention, Katsuko began to hang out with delinquents and spent most of their time as a gang who intimidate strangers and occasionally beat them up for fun.
His father, though he knows his son's behavior, had little say on it because of his busy daily schedules.
But then, 2 weeks before his death in that past life, Katsuko realized that his attitude and the way he act and behave had caused more problems for everyone, including his workaholic father. By that time, he was constantly scolded for his bad behavior and was almost isolated at school (except for his gang members). So, he changed for the better and at first, he started his transition by being less mean and intimidating and then, he progressed by being helpful to everyone.
And so, by next week, his attitude had marked a new (but short-lived in this life) chapter in his life. Even his delinquent friends were stoked by his change of heart and did the same thing, too. At that time, they still hang out as a group, though they are no longer mean or act like a gang. But then, on the day he died, Katsuko noticed an old woman going to be hit by a truck on a street within his neighborhood. So, he went to push her out of the way. But he took the hit from the truck instead. He died as a result, but his redemption had earned him something: a chance to live his life again in a new world, still as the same Katsuko Takeuchi from his past life.
