The Twilight Pass stretched for tens of thousands of miles in every direction. It was divided into four outer regions: Eastern Grove, Western Wastes, Southern Sands, and Northern Ice.
Legend said that anyone traveling from one region to another had to cross the Soulsea, a vast and extremely dangerous body of water. Every crossing was considered a near-death experience, but there was supposedly one shipping route that greatly increased a traveler's chances of surviving the journey.
The only problem was that the route was controlled by a single powerful faction.
That left travelers with two choices. Either they had to be strong enough to cross the Soulsea on their own, or they had to pay a fortune for a ticket that gave them a much better chance of making it across alive. Even then, survival was not guaranteed. The Seventh Princess had told Ethan that the faction lost ships every year, yet no one dared hold them accountable.
