The second beast that emerged was nowhere near as large as the feline one.
But the moment Theo got a proper look at it, he didn't relax in the slightest.
It was a bird-type beast, one that had wings that were much narrower than those of any normal birds he had seen yet disproportionately longer than its body. Its feathers weren't truly red like the feline beast's fiery shine, either. Instead, they were a darker shade, closer to ash and dried blood, while the tips of the wings glowed orange as though they had embers hidden beneath them.
The beast circled in the air once before letting out a shrill cry that scraped against Theo's ears.
Below it, the feline beast lowered itself even further, a deep growl rumbling from its chest.
Theo looked at Varelya, then at the two beasts. The sword in his hand twitched slightly as his grip tightened around the hilt.
