The next morning, Ella and Alexander came downstairs together for breakfast. Seeing them instantly brought a smile to Amelia's face. Earlier that morning, when the butler had informed her that all the children had spent the night, she had quietly shed a tear. It was something she had not dared to hope for in over a year.
"Good morning," Ella and Alexander greeted as they took their seats.
Ella remembered how worried she had been the night before about convincing Alexander to stay. Yet before she could even bring it up, he had asked her first if she was comfortable spending the night. Her happy nod had made him laugh at her eagerness.
After they had breakfast, they all prepared to leave. Cass and Ella rode back together, while Alexander left in another car, saying he had a few things to attend to.
"So," Cass said with a grin, "I was thinking, since I'm free, let's take a trip together."
"A trip?" Ella echoed.
