Chapter 898 - Chapter 895: The Power's Back On!

"There was a sound over here, look around!" Just as Jiang Hai and the woman hid inside the closet, a series of hurried footsteps approached from afar. In Jiang Hai's view, several burly men appeared at the entrance of the passageway. Each of these men resembled the one Jiang Hai had dealt with on the second floor—over two meters tall, with massive, bloated muscles. Their guard uniforms were torn and worn. Some of them had their mouths sewn shut, while others hadn't. What horrified Jiang Hai even more was that each of them was leading one or two…people?

They must be people. Looking at the figure walking on the ground on its hands and feet, Jiang Hai was certain it was a person.

But these men seemed to have been skinned alive; they had almost no skin, revealing visible muscles. They had no hair, no eyelids, only their eyes bulging out and moving, indicating they were alive. They crouched there, looking around. Hearing the words of the leading burly man, they scattered and began searching.

These mental patients seemed to have suffered some kind of intellectual trauma, so they weren't very bright. Jiang Hai was prepared to fight his way out, but they didn't even look at the obvious cabinet. Instead, they searched around for a bit and then gave up. Watching everyone return, the man left cursing. Once

he was sure everyone outside was gone, Jiang Hai breathed a sigh of relief. This place was just too eerie.

These guys didn't seem like ordinary mental patients. If the guy on the second floor was an accident, what was the purpose of so many like them? It was impossible to lock up so many strong, muscular people here, and why were their mouths sewn shut? And what were those monster-like people?

"Hmm!" After confirming that everyone was gone, the girl in front of him called out twice and patted Jiang Hai's hand.

Jiang Hai felt her movement, let go of her hand, and then realized that his and the girl's posture seemed a little strange.

Because the metal cabinet was indeed too small, it was already cramped even for Jiang Hai alone, let alone with another person squeezed in. At this moment, the girl and Jiang Hai were practically pressed together, if there was any such thing as zero distance, this was it.

Most importantly, the girl was completely naked, making Jiang Hai feel somewhat awkward.

"Sorry, I'll go out now," Jiang Hai said to the girl, and tried to leave, but the girl stopped him.

"No need, I'm quite comfortable like this." Hearing Jiang Hai's words, the girl giggled, then proactively wrapped her arms around Jiang Hai's waist, leaning against his chest, closing her eyes to listen to his heartbeat.

Just as Jiang Hai felt a little awkward and wanted to move, the girl spoke.

"Do you have a grudge against Patrick Charles?" Looking up at Jiang Hai, the girl asked curiously.

"Patrick Charles? Uh, the guy from earlier?" Hearing the girl's words, Jiang Hai asked her with some confusion.

"Ah, it's that guy from earlier. He's one of the fiercest guys around here. He only listens to Dover." Hearing Jiang Hai's question, the girl laughed and wrinkled her cute nose.

"Dover?" Hearing another name, Jiang Hai was even more confused.

"Ah, Dover, he's our boss here. We all have to listen to him. But he's really smart. He solved our problem of having to take injections and medicine. We don't have to take those bitter pills or get those excruciating injections. It's really the happiest thing. Most importantly, after those injections, we forget some things. Right now, besides remembering my name is Lois-Knightley, I don't remember anything else." Hearing Jiang Hai's question, the girl shrugged, completely unconcerned that her breasts were constantly rubbing against Jiang Hai's chest as she told him about the situation.

"What's his full name?" Looking at Lois-Knightley in front of him, Jiang Hai finally understood. The guy named Dover must be the leader here, the one who started this incident.

"Doflamingo Campbell is a very thin guy, but he has a strong heart." Lois Knightley chuckled as she heard Jiang Hai's words. Hearing the name, Jiang Hai thought for a moment, but he was certain he didn't know him.

"Never mind, none of this concerns me. I just need to find the power station and cut the power." Shaking his head, Jiang Hai wasn't some savior, nor did he have any interest in being one. What would happen here was none of his concern, nor was it why this person had become like this. Although he was somewhat curious, Jiang Hai's sixth sense told him it might be related to the research institute, but none of this concerned him. At most, it was a matter for the police who would take over after he left.

"The power station is nearby. Just turn left ahead and you'll see it." Lois Knightley smiled as she spoke. Hearing her words, Jiang Hai reopened the door, and after confirming no one was outside, he forced his way out of the small cabinet and pulled Lois Knightley out.

"I'll walk the rest of the way myself. It's too dangerous for you to come with me." Seeing Lois-Knightley emerge, Jiang Hai said to her. Indeed, if they encountered any danger, he could handle it much better on his own, whether fighting or hiding. But if he brought Lois-Knightley along, he would feel somewhat constrained.

"That won't do. I brought you here. If you do anything bad here, it'll be troublesome. So I have to keep an eye on you." But unexpectedly, after Jiang Hai finished speaking, Lois-Knightley didn't leave, saying earnestly,

"Uh…" Hearing her words and seeing her determined gaze, Jiang Hai smiled helplessly, shook his head, and walked away. Fortunately, those people didn't linger. The path in the distance was deserted; only the red light in front of the power supply room was still on, indicating a power outage.

After identifying his target, Jiang Hai crouched low and headed towards the power supply room. Lois Knightley followed him; thankfully, she had taken off her high heels because it was hot in the elevator, making her movements quiet, which allowed Jiang Hai to let her follow. Soon, the two arrived at the power supply room.

Jiang Hai quietly opened the door and peeked inside. It was pitch black; there was nothing else. He had to admit, the atmosphere was quite eerie. Jiang Hai took a breath and slowly entered, crouching low, until he found the location of the machine he had seen shut down in the second-floor surveillance room.

The machine was still running, but the LCD panel displayed three English phrases, all in red.

"What does this mean?" Looking at the panel, Jiang Hai was even more confused; he knew nothing about electrical work.

"This is the main switchboard. It tells you there are three turnstiles here, but they're all closed right now. You need to open one of them first before you can start this machine." Lois Knightley, who had been following Jiang Hai, approached and looked at the machine in front of him.

"How do you know that?" Looking at Lois Knightley beside him, Jiang Hai was certain. He knew each word individually, but he didn't understand them when put together. This was definitely technical jargon. How did Lois Knightley know it?

"Who knows? I'll figure it out at a glance." However, Lois-Knightley shrugged after hearing Jiang Hai's words, indicating that she didn't quite understand either. Judging from her expression, Jiang Hai felt that he probably wouldn't get any information from her. It was more important to start the power first.

Fortunately, the location of the three switches was marked on the night screen. Although it was pitch black, Jiang Hai still felt his way to the first switch and quickly found it on the wall.

As Jiang Hai forcefully turned the wrench, a click echoed throughout the power supply room, and then the middle one of the three red indicators lit up. Seeing that it was useful, Jiang Hai reached for the second indicator, which was a switch that turned like a steering wheel. Jiang Hai forcefully turned it on, and a sound of water came from it. Then, with a click, the first light turned on.

There was only one left, which was a little far away. Jiang Hai walked over and found it to be a very simple switch, like the main power switch in a house. It was also the easiest to turn on, and Jiang Hai casually turned it off.

The instant the switch was flipped, the sound of the motor restarting came from the power supply room. The first thing to illuminate was the lights inside the room. After a few flickering lights, Jiang Hai was instantly back in the light. The entire power supply room was brightly lit, almost completely bright. Jiang Hai, who had been completely unprepared and had been in darkness, felt a sharp pain in his eyes when suddenly they were illuminated, and tears instantly filled his eyes, obscuring his vision. But Jiang Hai wasn't worried, because he knew it was temporary.

But just then, a whooshing sound came from afar! It hurtled straight towards Jiang Hai! (To be continued.)
