Chapter 75 - Dream of the World Tree

Night had fallen over REF, wrapping the new city in a tranquil hush. The lamps along the cobblestone streets flickered with soft blue flames — an invention of Vex's design and Luminor's energy runes. The gentle hum of magic in the air reminded everyone that this was no ordinary city; REF was alive, pulsing with mana and innovation.

But in the center of the city, another kind of magic was stirring — one born of love and divine grace.

Amara lay asleep in her chamber, the moonlight spilling across her bed like liquid silver. Since her confession with Elian, her heart had felt lighter, her magic calmer. But tonight, her dreams took her somewhere beyond the mortal realm.

She stood in a forest of shimmering emerald leaves. The air was thick with life — flowers glowing softly, rivers whispering ancient songs. The ground pulsed beneath her feet as if the roots of the world itself carried a heartbeat. Then she saw it — the World Tree.

It towered endlessly into the sky, its trunk wide as a mountain and its leaves glittering with divine light. The very air around it shimmered with celestial mana.

"Amara…"

The voice was gentle, ancient, and female — carrying warmth that made Amara's chest tighten with awe. From the base of the massive roots, a figure emerged. It was a woman made of light and vines, her hair woven from leaves of gold, her eyes the color of spring after rain.

"You… you're the World Tree," Amara whispered, falling to her knees instinctively. "Why are you… speaking to me?"

The spirit smiled. "Because your heart has been chosen to carry my blessing. You have walked the edge of death to protect others, and your love has bloomed pure and selfless."

Amara's eyes widened. "You mean… Elian?"

The spirit nodded, her luminous form swaying like branches in the wind. "Your bond with him is a reflection of life's balance — strength and gentleness, roots and wind. The world needs such love, for it heals what wars destroy."

Tears shimmered in Amara's eyes. "I never thought someone like me… someone always fighting… could be worthy of this."

"You are," said the World Tree softly. "And so, I bless you both. May your hearts never wither, even when storms come. Your souls will recognize each other in every lifetime."

Amara reached out instinctively — and when her fingers brushed the spirit's light, a glowing mark appeared over her heart: a small, intricate rune shaped like intertwining vines and arrows.

"Remember," the World Tree whispered, her voice fading like a melody, "love is the strongest root of all."

The dream dissolved in a flurry of golden leaves, and Amara awoke with tears on her cheeks and the faint warmth of the rune pulsing beneath her skin.

At sunrise, Amara hurried to find Elian. He was already outside the training field, practicing archery as the morning mist swirled around him. His arrows glowed faintly with mana, each one striking dead center on the target.

"Elian!" she called, breathless.

He turned quickly, concern flashing in his bright green eyes. "Amara? What's wrong?"

She shook her head, smiling. "Nothing's wrong. Something… miraculous happened. The World Tree came to me in a dream. She… blessed our bond."

Elian froze, his bow lowering slowly. "You mean… the World Tree? The divine spirit of life itself?"

Amara nodded. "I thought it was just a vision, but…" She pulled back her collar slightly, revealing the glowing rune on her skin. The air around them shimmered with a faint, sweet scent of blossoms.

Elian stared in awe, then reached out to touch the light. "It's real," he whispered. "She truly blessed us…"

Amara laughed softly. "I think she approves of us."

He smiled and wrapped his arms around her, holding her close as sunlight spilled across the field. "Then I'll never let that blessing go to waste."

From a distance, Kael and Lyra watched them quietly, a smile tugging at Lyra's lips. "They're beautiful together," she said.

Kael nodded. "They deserve peace."

Behind them, another voice joined in — calm, confident, and edged with mischief. "And while they're enjoying divine blessings, some of us are still rebuilding the city's mana grid."

Kael turned to see Arra, the city's new magic engineer, approaching with a glowing blueprint in hand. She was a woman of quick movements and sharper eyes, her short copper hair tied up in a messy bun, and her clothes covered in smudges of soot and mana dust.

"You've been up all night again, haven't you?" Kael said.

Arra grinned, her eyes bright with excitement. "Of course! Someone has to keep up with Vex's nonsense. He might be a genius with potions, but he can't design a stabilizer core that doesn't blow up the workshop."

Vex appeared behind her, arms crossed. "It exploded once. That's part of the process."

Luminor, ever composed, floated nearby in his keeper form — a glowing projection of light and runes. "Statistically," he said dryly, "Vex's 'processes' have a seventy-three percent explosion rate."

"Seventy-two," Vex corrected immediately.

Kael chuckled. "And what about you, Arra? What are you working on this time?"

Arra's grin widened. "The City Core Reactor. It's a fusion between mana engineering and natural leyline flow. With it, REF will generate enough clean mana to power the entire city — lights, enchantments, defense barriers, and even Vex's alchemy labs — without draining the earth."

Lyra's eyes lit up. "That's incredible. Can you really build something like that?"

Arra winked. "I can build anything, even the impossible. I just need time, and maybe fewer interruptions."

Vex smirked. "And double my potion budget, apparently."

"You're already charging four million runs for your miracle potion," Arra shot back. "You can fund the entire city yourself."

Kael smiled as their bickering continued. Despite their differences, the team worked like a well-tuned mechanism. Vex's alchemy, Luminor's intellect, Arra's engineering, and Ember's leadership had turned REF into something far greater than they had ever imagined.

As evening fell, the city lights shimmered to life, illuminating streets lined with glowing crystals. In the distance, the sound of music echoed through the markets. People laughed, danced, and celebrated — unaware that, deep beneath the city, Arra's mana reactor began to hum softly, connecting the leyline network that would one day make REF a beacon across the continent.

High above, under the glow of the stars, Amara and Elian stood together on the tower balcony, hands entwined. The mark of the World Tree glowed faintly on Amara's chest, and as the wind carried petals from the garden below, she felt its whisper again — gentle, eternal:

Love is the strongest root.

And in that moment, the city of REF, powered by invention, magic, and love, shone brighter than ever before.
