Synopsis
This isn’t a story of heroes and villains. In a fractured universe where justice and chaos blur, people are not saviors—they are survivors. Dreamers. Fighters shaped by a world that forces them to choose who they become. The Judgement Order maintains peace through control, offering the illusion of choice while quietly shaping society to its will. Opposing them are multiple revolutionary groups, but the one that stands out the most is the Plasma Nexus, a rebellion that fights for freedom… even if that freedom leads to destruction. But what is freedom without order? And what is order without truth? At the center of it all is Iver Tanaka, the Masked Drifter—a boy forged by tragedy, searching for purpose in a world that sees him as a monster. He doesn’t have the answers. And neither do we. Through his journey, SUNDIAL explores identity, survival, and the cost of choice. It asks a simple question with no easy answer: Would you fight for freedom… even if it meant embracing chaos? Or would you accept control… in exchange for peace? There are no right sides here. Only consequences. Welcome to SUNDIAL. Freedom isn’t always what it seems. And neither are the people fighting for it. "SUNDIAL" is a sci-fi novel about survival and rebellion in a chaotic galaxy ruled by the oppressive Judgment Order. It follows Iver Tanaka, a 17-year-old scavenger from Earth's slums with the power of the Friction force. Known as the Masked Drifter, Iver works for his own survival until he's drawn into the struggle of the Plasma Nexus, a small rebellion fighting for freedom. As Iver uncovers truths about his past and the universe's corruption, he faces tough choices between selfish ambition and becoming a symbol of hope in a lawless world. The story combines intense action, morally complex characters, and a gritty, dystopian setting, exploring what it means to fight for survival and justice.

Chapter 1 - The Masked Drifter

Chapter 1: "The Masked Drifter"

The Red District, a sprawling underworld of towering, dimly-lit buildings and alleyways, stands as a stark contrast to the polished cities under the Judgment Order's rule. The district's streets are flooded with humans and aliens alike—some desperate for survival, others thriving in their own chaos. Here, syntax fuels the black market: drugs, weapons, and forbidden technology are traded like commodities, while the Judgment Order's enforcers keep a tight grip on every corner.

"The Red District's not a place you're meant to visit unless you've got a reason. Me? I've got plenty of reasons."

Iver Tanaka steps through the crowded streets, his hood pulled low, his mask obscuring most of his face. He moves with purpose, his eyes sharp but distant. He's the Masked Drifter, an enigma in the world of the underground. He's young only 17 but in this city, age doesn't matter. Survival does.

Iver's mind is occupied by the job he's been hired for today: retrieving a strange plasma artifact rumored to be a key piece of technology that could tip the balance of power. His employers? An alien contact in the black market, goes by the name Gara. Someone big, someone with questionable motives but a lot of credits to offer.

He pushes through the crowd and enters a nondescript building, its door creaking shut behind him. The air is thick with the stench of rusted bolts and old tech. Inside, a figure waits for him, cloaked in shadow, their face hidden behind a mask.

"Got what I asked for?" the figure growls, voice cold and calculated.

Iver gives a curt nod. "I got it. You've got the credits?"

"Always the business first," the figure smirks, pulling out a small, glowing chip of digital credits. "Just as long as you don't bring the Order's heat down on us."

Iver's eyes narrow. He's used to dealing with shady characters like this, but something feels off. His gut tells him to keep his distance, but the credits are too tempting.

As the transaction is made, a low rumble shakes the building. The door bursts open, and a group of Judgment Order enforcers storm in, their plasma rifles aimed at everyone in the room.

"Drop it, Drifter." One of them steps forward, his voice grating like metal on metal. "You've been marked."

Iver freezes for a split second before instinct takes over. Without hesitation, he manipulates the friction around him, causing the ground beneath his feet to become a slick, almost ice-like surface. In an instant, he slides across the room, narrowly avoiding the gunfire from the enforcers. His ability allows him to move with unnatural speed, a blur in the air.

"Get him!" The enforcer shouts, as they open fire, plasma bolts burning through the air.

Iver ducks and weaves, the friction force giving him control over his speed and momentum. He moves like lightning, slipping past each shot, but just as he's about to make his escape, a sudden surge of plasma energy crashes into him from behind, knocking him off his feet.

"Damn it," Iver mutters, as he struggles to regain control, his vision blurring from the blast.

Before he can react, a hand grabs his arm and yanks him into a dark alley. The world spins as Iver's head slams against the stone wall, and he slumps to the ground. Through the haze of pain, he sees the silhouette of a figure standing above him.

"Didn't think you'd be this easy to catch, Drifter."

The voice is cold and precise. Roy, the leader of Plasma Nexus operations in the Red District, stands there at a staggering height of 6'3, his goggles reflecting the dim light of the alley and a younger figure, his blonde hair illuminated by the light and his sharp purple eyes. He wears a long cloak covering the lower half of his face with an enormous unknown weapon strapped onto his back.

"You've got some guts," says the young man, his tone mocking. "Running around doing jobs for alien scum, then making us clean up your mess."

Roy's voice cuts through the tension like a blade. "We've been watching you. You're more than just a street kid with a mask. But your recklessness? It's gonna get you killed one of these days."

Iver's eyes narrow, but he doesn't resist. He knows he's outmatched. The Plasma Nexus, a rebellion group that operates in the shadows of the universe, is not to be trifled with.

"Who are you?" Iver grits through his teeth. "You're not the authorities."

"No," Roy answers, his voice low but firm. "We're something worse. We're the ones who fight back."

He throws a slick device onto the ground, as it makes contact a hologram appears revealing a man calmly sitting on a chair, his presence calm and calculated. "The legend in the flesh. You've got no idea how long I've been wanting to meet you. We've been tracking you. You've been working for the black market, scavenging abandoned tech and weapons."

The young man chuckles and cuts in. "Let's just say... we're offering you a chance to join the winning side."

Iver's mind races. He doesn't trust them. But he also doesn't trust the Order. These rebels might be his ticket out of this mess.

"I'm not looking to join anyone," Iver snaps, though his voice betrays a hint of curiosity. "I work alone."

Roy's eyes shift slightly beneath his goggles, a flicker of something unreadable crossing his face. "I'm not asking you. You don't get to survive in this world alone anymore, drifter. The Judgment Order controls everything. And if you're going to last, you'll need to work with us."

Iver hesitates, his mind still spinning from the close call with the enforcers. His mask hides his conflicted expression, but his heart beats faster. This is the first time someone's offered him something bigger than credits. A chance to fight back.

"What do you want from me?" Iver asks, finally meeting Roy's gaze.

He doesn't smile, but his voice carries an underlying certainty. "We want you to fight."

The Plasma Nexus, the Judgment Order, the galaxy is a vast and treacherous place. But if Iver wants to have any say in his future, he knows he'll have to make his move. No one can escape the web of the Judgment Order forever.

And the Masked Drifter might just be the key to changing everything.
