Chapter 300 - Chapter 297 The Great Pawn Of The Void

Paul's eyes narrowed as he faced Thavuk, the orc radiating a malevolent presence that felt eerily familiar, like the lingering dread of the Maze of Madness. The air itself seemed to thicken, charged with tension, as Thavuk raised his hand and a dozen dark tendrils of void energy sprouted from his palm, twisting and writhing like ghostly fingers searching for a target.

The tendrils stretched across the space between them, their quivering tips glowing faintly, imbued with a threatening, otherworldly power. Instincts screamed at Paul to react, and he did so with a blur of movement, dodging to the side with a speed that left his form nearly a streak. As he shifted, his fists moved in a relentless flurry, each strike generating a burst of air that radiated outward, compressing the surrounding space with every impact.

The first punch barely grazed the edge of Thavuk's defenses, a subtle whisper of wind against the orc's dark shield. But with each subsequent strike, the force amplified, the ninth and tenth punches generating gusts that collided and compounded, building into a ten meter wide cone of air hurtling toward Thavuk. The front of the wave was deceptively gentle, yet the trailing edge tore through the air like a storm, an unrelenting force pushing against him.

Thavuk staggered, his dark energy shield flickering as it struggled to contain the torrent of air. The relentless gusts pressed in from all sides, creating a swirling barrier that threatened to crush him if he could not regain control.

Seizing the opening, Paul launched himself upward with a powerful push from his legs, soaring toward Thavuk. As he descended, a surge of energy burst from his fist, vibrating the surrounding air with intense pressure. The distortion radiated outward, warping the space around him in ripples that twisted and writhed as though the air itself were alive, responding to the raw power he was unleashing.

But just as Paul's fist neared Thavuk, the orc's malevolent presence sharpened with sudden cunning. Despite the battering gusts and pressure from Paul's onslaught, Thavuk's composure returned in an instant, and a dark, swirling energy shield coalesced around him with eerie speed. The shield's surface shimmered with an unnatural power, undulating like liquid shadow, and even Paul's immense force seemed almost trivial in comparison, absorbed and deflected with a subtle, oppressive ease.

The void shield glowed faintly, siphoning off energy from the surrounding air, as though it were pulling at the very strength Paul had poured into his attack. Yet Paul did not hesitate; every nerve, every muscle, burned with determination and fury as he pressed forward, letting neither the shield nor Thavuk's presence dissuade him.

When his punch reached the shield, it did not break through, but the raw force of the blow rippled across its surface, causing the dark energy to wobble and push back against the orc with surprising violence. Thavuk's eyes widened for a fraction of a second, the slightest flicker of surprise crossing his sharp features, as his boots sank deeper into the ground to anchor him against the assault. The void flared from his body, maintaining the shield's stability even as the pressure threatened to overwhelm him.

For a few tense seconds, the two forces clashed, neither giving an inch. The ground trembled violently beneath their feet, shockwaves radiating outward and smashing into the surrounding camp. Dirt and stone erupted into the air as wooden structures splintered under the vibrations, and the roar of collapsing earth mixed with the hiss of the void energy and the rush of displaced air.

When the tremors finally subsided, both Paul and Thavuk had been thrown backward several meters, yet remained on their feet, faces set in grim determination. Around them, the battlefield had been transformed: a massive crater, over a hundred meters wide, scarred the earth, and the orcs who had been observing from the sidelines now looked like tiny, scattered shapes in the distance, their jaws dropping as they tried to comprehend the sheer destructive force that had just unfolded before their eyes.

Thavuk's smile returned, sharp and calculating, as he regarded Paul with a mixture of amusement and appraisal. He was impressed, no ordinary human could move with such speed and precision, but he knew this was only one facet of combat. His own mastery of void energy allowed him strategies and maneuvers far beyond brute strength, and he could feel the infinite possibilities stretching before him.

Focusing his power, Thavuk's dark aura surged outward, wrapping his hands in massive, claw like armor of void energy. The black, pulsating mass expanded five times larger than his own hands, each pulse resonating with a deep, almost sentient energy that radiated menace and potential devastation.

But before he could take even a single step forward, Paul vanished, leaving nothing but a faint distortion in the air. Within moments, he reappeared mere inches from Thavuk's face, fists a blur as he unleashed a flurry of crushing blows. Each strike propelled Thavuk through the air, faster and more precise than the last, leaving him entirely unable to counter.

The orc soared helplessly, each punch and kick from Paul creating shockwaves that rippled outward, rattling the very earth beneath the camp. Yellow arcs of lightning erupted from Paul's body, struggling to keep pace with the speed of his assault, but the flashes still illuminated the battlefield with a dazzling, electric brilliance, casting long, distorted shadows across the scattered orcs below.

The onlookers could only gape as Paul danced through the air, strikes landing with lethal intent, each one forcing Thavuk further from the ground, his void shield flickering under the relentless barrage. Finally, with a final, descending punch, Paul slammed Thavuk down, sending him crashing into the earth. The impact ripped through the ground, tearing up a massive section of the camp and sending shockwaves that destroyed half of the surrounding structures in an instant.

Paul landed lightly a dozen meters away, breathing steadily, fists still clenched, eyes locked on the aftermath as dust and debris swirled around the shattered battlefield.

Thavuk rose from the crater, his grin unbroken despite the force that had sent him sprawling, the deep purple aura of void energy clinging to his massive frame. "Was that all?" he asked, voice dripping with dark amusement, each word resonating like a growl across the battlefield. "Then it's my turn now."

The air around him shimmered and warped as the void responded, twisting reality itself. Tentacles of pure, dark energy erupted from the ground in every direction, some barely ten meters long, others stretching beyond a hundred, writhing and undulating as though alive, their tips clawing at the air. Shadows pooled beneath them, twisting and writhing as they sought to grasp anything that moved.

Unfazed, Paul surged forward, his focus absolute, weaving between the writhing void appendages with impossible speed. Each movement was precise, a fluid dance between the grasping tentacles, as he closed the distance to the towering orc.

Within moments, Paul was in striking range. His fists flew, punching with raw, concentrated power, but Thavuk remained still. When Paul's strike made contact with the outer layer of void energy encasing Thavuk, it met a slight resistance, a tremor that barely slowed the impact before it passed through the illusory shell.

Before Paul could react further, the real Thavuk erupted from the ground beside him, his massive clawed hand glowing with dark power, void energy crawling across its surface like living shadow. The strike came faster than the eye could follow, and Paul barely raised his arms in time to block it. The blow slammed into him with an immense force, sending vibrations up his arms and into his chest, and he was hurled backward across the battlefield like a projectile.

He crashed into the earth outside the camp, the impact gouging the ground into a crater as rock and soil exploded outward. The shockwave ripped through the surrounding area, hurling nearby orcs into the air, their limbs flailing as they tumbled like ragdolls, thrown clear of the epicenter. The battlefield had become a chaotic storm of shattered earth, twisted void energy, and the violent aftermath of raw, unrestrained power.

Paul rose to his feet, entirely unharmed despite the brutal impact, and found himself encircled by a writhing mass of void tentacles and dozens of Thavuk's clones, each one identical and radiating the same dark energy. Yet rather than hesitation or fear, a fierce grin spread across Paul's face, his eyes burning with unwavering determination.

With fluid precision, he darted between the clones, his movements a blur of speed and power. Each punch and kick struck with unerring accuracy, sending clones crumbling into nothingness as if they had never existed. In mere minutes, the field of phantoms lay destroyed, leaving only silence punctuated by the wind and debris.

Paul's gaze swept the battlefield, searching for the real Thavuk, and he noticed something unsettling, the shattered remnants of the clones began to coalesce, swirling into a single, towering void monstrosity that eclipsed the surrounding terrain. Its massive, glowing form loomed over him.

Without pause, Thavuk's colossal fist swung down toward Paul, the sheer force causing the earth beneath the camp to quake violently, cracks racing outward like lightning. Paul met the strike with his left arm, immovable and unyielding, the impact reverberating up his bones yet leaving him completely steady, his stance unwavering against the void fueled blow.

For a tense heartbeat, they remained locked in a silent standoff, the air vibrating with the residual energy of their clashing forces. Then, almost imperceptibly, Paul raised his right fist, punching upward at an impossible angle. The strike connected with the monstrous void hand, and in an instant, it disintegrated into fragments of dark energy, vanishing before it could strike again.

Seizing the moment, Paul vaulted into the air, his momentum carrying him forward as he smashed a powerful punch into the chest of the towering void entity. Purple energy erupted, disintegrating into a swirling cloud of darkness that scattered across the battlefield like smoke caught in a storm.

Even as debris and stone shot skyward from the shockwaves of his attacks, Paul didn't relent. He launched himself toward the ground, delivering a crushing blow on the remaining void that sent chunks of earth tearing from the battlefield, each impact radiating with unstoppable force.

And yet, amid the chaos and devastation, Thavuk's presence endured. From the tip of one of his remaining tentacles, the orc reemerged, his grin intact.

Thavuk loomed over Paul, his massive frame casting a dark shadow across the cratered battlefield, a mix of surprise and irritation flickering across his scarred face. He hadn't anticipated the human's resilience or speed, and it showed in the tightening of his jaw and the narrowing of his eyes.

But before he could resume his assault, the very air around him seemed to stiffen, as though time itself hesitated. From the void, a figure emerged, an overwhelming presence shrouded in shadow and darkness, its aura bending the light and muting the ambient sounds of the battlefield. Compared to this being, Thavuk seemed small, almost insignificant.

The Mad God had arrived.

"It is time," the God's voice boomed, low and commanding, resonating across the battlefield like rolling thunder. "Start the summoning."

Thavuk's face twisted with frustration. He hated being ordered, and to hear it from this deity only fueled his irritation. His pride flared as he retorted, "I'm busy right now," hoping to stall, to regain control.

The silence that followed was suffocating, the kind that pressed on his chest, and he felt an unfamiliar tension coil through him. Finally, gritting his teeth, he muttered, "It will be done," his voice reluctant but obedient.

"Be fast," the God intoned before vanishing back into the void, leaving only the echo of authority behind.

The battlefield seemed to shift instantly. Thavuk's form swelled, his body doubling in size within seconds as void energy surged outward, distorting the air around him. The shadows coiled and twisted, reacting to his newfound might, and the ground trembled beneath his weight.

He leapt toward Paul with terrifying speed. Paul swung a punch, but Thavuk's massive hand intercepted it effortlessly, clamping around the fist like iron. "Unfortunately, I have no more time for you," Thavuk said, voice grim, before slamming his other fist into Paul's abdomen with unrelenting force.

Paul shot into the air, and before he could recover, Thavuk's void formed hand spun around with blinding velocity. It snatched Paul's feet and flung him across the sky, hurling him straight deeper into the shadowland.

As Paul vanished into the distance, Thavuk turned his attention to the approaching orc army. His expression hardened, eyes cold and unyielding as he barked his command. "Get ready. We go to the south."

No orc dared to question him; they moved in unison, disciplined and obedient, falling into line behind their leader as he led them with the authority of one who commanded both fear and respect.
