Julian felt that he must be a truly filial son. Watching his father being pinned to the ground and pummeled by Love, letting out agonized cries for about ten minutes or so, he started to feel a bit sorry.
The cries had gone from loud and clear to faint and weak, and Julian couldn't bear to watch any longer.
"Love, that's enough. If you keep hitting him, he might die."
"You can continue once he recovers."
He added one more sentence at the end.
"Dee~"
Love felt that Julian made sense, so it put away its rolling pin and then said to Jake in an angry tone, "Be more thorough when handling things next time."
With that, it stepped on Jake's back and walked away.
Lunch needed to be prepared. Since Jake was back today, more dishes needed to be made—though he'd be carrying them to the kitchen to eat. Someone like him didn't deserve a seat at the table.
"Brat, I'm your father! Aren't you afraid of being struck by lightning for treating me like this?"
Seeing Love leave, Jake quickly got up from the ground, dusted himself off, and glared fiercely at Julian.
'Back then, I should've just splattered this rebellious son onto the wall.'
Of course, Jake's screams earlier were all an act.
And Love knew it too.
"Didn't I just plead for you with Love? Otherwise, you'd still be lying here yelling."
Julian felt his father was being a bit ungrateful. No matter how you looked at it, he had saved him. If he wasn't grateful, that was fine, but why was he still cursing at him?
"Then I suppose I should thank you?"
Jake gritted his teeth as he stared at his unfilial son.
"You're welcome."
Julian grinned, then immediately tilted his head to the side. A shoe flew past where his head had just been.
With a smack, it hit Arcanine right in the face.
"Arf! Arf!"
Arcanine was instantly unhappy. It stood up and let loose a barrage of insults at Jake.
Apart from its own trainer, Slowking, and Love—Arcanine feared no one.
Jake was absolutely furious. Even though he didn't understand what Arcanine was barking, its tone and expression made it clear that it wasn't anything nice.
"The dog gets its confidence from its owner, Dad. Haven't you heard that saying?" Julian said.
Then he patted Arcanine's head, signaling it to calm down.
Even he felt that the dog had gone a bit too far with the insults. Luckily, Jake couldn't understand what Arcanine was saying—otherwise, he might have roasted it on the spot.
"Kid, it's been a while since I've taught you. How about a match?"
Jake took out a Poké Ball.
"Sure."
Julian nodded. He was feeling a bit bored anyway, so a battle would be a good way to pass the time.
So the two of them headed to the battlefield.
"Deoxys, set up the field."
A psychic barrier rose up, which was far sturdier than the standard field protective barriers.

Jake was a bit surprised, and then said proudly, "I got pretty lucky this time. I actually managed to find an Ultimate treasure."
"By the way, kid, why didn't you take this treasure?" Jake asked curiously.
'Damn, what ridiculous luck…' Julian felt a bit envious.
After all, without the Dowsing Machine, he didn't think his abysmal luck would allow him to find one.
"It didn't interest me."
But he still replied stubbornly.
There was no way he had missed it—any treasure would be detected by the Dowsing Machine, let alone an Ultimate one.
If it hadn't shown up back then, it must have still been in the process of forming and hadn't fully manifested yet.
It must have only appeared after he left the Primal Secret Realm.
So Jake's luck was nothing short of absurd.
Still, Julian didn't really care much about it. It was just an ordinary Ultimate treasure—not that useful for any of his main team Pokémon.
Jake's Metagross had used a total of five Ultimate treasures. The second and third were given by Julian, while the others were obtained by Jake himself.

Seeing Julian, Jake's Metagross greeted him in a deep, rumbling voice.
Ever since he was little, Julian had loved lying on Metagross's back, so the bond between them was very strong.
Back then, Metagross had even wanted to split off a Beldum for Julian to use as his starter Pokémon. Unfortunately, Julian had declined and instead chose the Beldum split from his grandfather's Metagross.
That had left Jake's Metagross feeling down for a long time.
"Metagross, don't hold back. Show this kid what you're made of. Give it everything you've got."

Metagross nodded.
Julian's hand reached for a Poké Ball at his waist.
"Dragonite."
He sent out Dragonite.
He didn't use his own Metagross, since that would be a bit too unfair against Jake's Metagross.

After completing the Main Quest of training six Champion-level Pokémon, Julian had been rewarded with two Golden Legends.
He had originally wanted to use both on his Metagross to see if he could raise its Gold potential even higher, but the system indicated that it couldn't be used.
So he gave one of them to Dragonite.
He felt he owed Dragonite a bit. Compared to its peers, Dragonite had fewer Ultimate treasures, and Gengar, the "chosen one," had surpassed it despite coming later.
So Julian didn't hesitate and directly gave one to Dragonite.
As for the second, that naturally went to Aggron—no question about that.
