Chapter 10 - Monarchy

Simri marched with his brethren, an army of ten thousand, walking in one unified stride, perfect coordination, each squadron headed in a different direction, each entered a different tunnel,

Simri's squad in turn headed in a tunnel,

Marching at an incredible pace, usually the bigger a group the slower the march, but this squadron of a hundred Mchuwaji never stopped, as if in perfect aggreement about the next rounded corner, the next intersection's direction, everything was if previously rehearsed,

Simri felt his muscles ache, ache for a fight, for blood, he felt reinforced by his queen's blessing, a rush to serve, to fuflill his reason for being.

The squadron turned a corner, only to find another group heading in the opposite direction straight at them,

The Mchuwaji were never surprised, they always understood what they wanted and what others of their species wanted, they didn't bother with being stupefied or stunned,

Simri knew instantly what to do, what he wanted to do,

He rushed at the front, lunging head first at the opposing army of Mchuwaji,

the two groups clashed on all fronts simultaneously, screeching, blood flying everywhere,

Simri lunged, opening his maw, showing his large sharp fangs, closing it on another mchuwaji's neck,

By instinct the other Mchuwaji did the same also closing his maw on Simri's neck,

Yet as soon as he did, he let go and screeched as loud as a Mchuwaji could, while Simri took a clean bite out of his brethren's neck, then slashed at his throat ripping off what was left of it,

Simri felt a rush, as energy filled his body, a rush unlike what everyday life felt like, becoming more frenzied more enraged, more primal, Simri lunged onto the next opponent in line,

His claws glowed red hot as he struck his claws in an upward motion impaling another one of his opponents by the jaw, lifting him up as green liquid flowed down his arm and another rush of exhiliration filled his head,

The more he killed the faster he moved, the redder his claws became and the more they glowed,

For Simri this was the only way to remain sane, by killing and killing and killing.

Other Mchuwaji were intense, a race bred for war, yet Simri was different, only he knew why, only he knew how.

They continued to fight and the tides seemed to turn in Simri's groups's favor, Slowly they were whittling the others down, While also suffering immense casualties, they didn't seem to mind,

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, anything for the queen, that was their purpose as soldiers,

Simri dashed forward, and in front of him stood another of his kind, different from the rest, of higher rank, distinct from the rest,

The two looked at each other for a moment, locked in a world of their own, the two of them knew what they were talking about,

Simri's opponent was bigger, with limbs that were turning black, a skeleton that was grey and resplendent, something the normal Mchuwaji would admire greatly, yet Simri only saw the next step in his climb up,

The black one snarled at Simri, While the latter screeched out loud,

They lunged at each other,

Simri reached out with his claw and his foe did the same, they met together in a clash of strength,

Simri was pushed back, he felt the inferiority in strength, and he knew his advantages,

Simri didn't retreat, instead at the incoming enemy who reached out to slash at Simri's throat, he ducked and then grabbed his arm,

Smoke came off, Simri smirked, yet what he was waiting for didn't come,

His opponent merely looked at Simri, then with his other free hand slashed at Simri's face,

Simri raised one of his free hands quickly to guard his face while letting go of his opponent and taking a step back,

It was too fast to even register, Simri flew back by the force of the impact, it sent him flying into another soldier, taking him with him, smashing into the wall,

Confused, disoriented Simri spat out blood, he couldn't understand what had happened, he should have burnt his opponent's arm, he should have... what had happened,

''you fight above your station, soldier, your arrogance is what got you killed, classes are absolute, you should've understood that before you bet your life away''

Simri's opponent was speaking in a weird guttural fashion,

''you, CHEATER!'' Simri screeched and yelled,

A hand came flying at Simri's face, too shook to dodge, Simri took the full brunt of the impact, only to look at the hand that hit him, and find out it was his own,

Lookng down at the hand that hit him, and then at where the arm he blocked with should be he only saw a stump,

''I shouldn't have expected intelligence from a flawed lifeform, you should die happy that you managed to accumulate as much karma as you did, your queen is already dead, ignorant one''

Simri bewildered at what the other Mchuwaji was saying, his arm was ripped out, and he was saying his queen was dead?

''LIAR, QUEEN NOT DEAD!'' Simri screamed out,

''You'll feel it soon small one, it's already been done'' The black one spoke in all the assuredness there was to be,

Simri sat on the ground trying to process what his next move should be, should he believe his opponent or should he stay defiant, should he fight? his confidence was shattered, that one encounter was all it took, all the adrenaline that there was vanished in an instant, only fear remained,

''SCREEEEE'' Simri was thrown aside,

The Mchuwaji that had been knocked away with Simri screeched, pushed Simri aside, and lunged at the black one,

The black one merely swiped his arm,

And a head flew, blood spraying from the headless body,

''Insignificant insects don't know their place, as usual,''

The black one turned and looked around the battlefield before ending up looking at Simri,

That's when the energy shifted, something changed in the air, something moved, changed like there was an abundance of energy all of a sudden, Simri felt energised,

Yet instead of being overjoyed, he felt devastated, he and his comrades, they all did,

The energy receded as fast as it came, like in a vacuum it all flowed in one direction, in the direction of their home, and all the soldiers felt a sluggishness they had forgotten, a lethargy that was a combination of their loss and of the dissapearance of their queen's blessing,

''HOW!'' Simri yelled, distressed,

''You'd be a fool to believe all your brethren are as loyal as you are, insect, your lack of individuality is a characteristic of your ignorance not of our species''

The army that came with Simri lost all sense of motivation, not knowing who to fight for, all sense of purpose, they were a warring race, but who were they fighting for,

Yet Simri was the only one still bubbling with anger, he couldn't believe a brethren of his would betray his queen, it was unfathomable, he refused to believe such blasphemy,

Then a burst of energy came and washed over all that were present,

''AH! What a blessing, the birth of a new monarch, be blessed, flawed one, and rejoice this is the birth of your new king'' The black one embraced the energy with open arms,

'King?' Simri failed to understand
