Sumaya woke to a blurred world that slowly sharpened into a familiar, tear-streaked face. Olivia hovered over her bedside, Oliver not far behind, their presence filling her chest with a sudden, overwhelming sense of recognition. Olivia practically threw herself forward, her arms wrapping around Sumaya in a fierce, trembling embrace. She was sobbing and laughing at the same time, the sound muffled against Sumaya's hospital gown.
"You gave me such a scare, you absolute brat," Olivia managed to choke out between gasps. "Three months without my favorite best friend has been an actual, literal hell. Don't you ever do that again."
Sumaya smiled faintly at the way Olivia called her her favorite best friend, as if she had any other best friend besides her. Some things really never changed.
Without giving Sumaya a single second to respond, Olivia began to ramble, her words tripping over each other in a frantic race.
