By the time Jin got back to the school, the whole place was arguing about points.
He heard it before he even reached the gate. Voices carried over the walls from the courtyard, loud and overlapping, a hundred conversations all happening at once. When he stepped through, he found what looked like half the school standing around in clumps with their screens open, pointing at them, shouting at each other, or staring at them in silence.
"Four hundred thousand," someone was saying near the fountain. "I have four hundred thousand. That's everything I've saved since the beginning. And it's not even a third."
"At least you have that much. I have twelve thousand."
"Twelve thousand? What have you been doing?"
"Surviving!"
A little further on, a man Jin recognized from the night watch was sitting on the edge of a planter with his head in his hands. "I could've been a hero," he was saying to nobody in particular. "Mythical weapon. Me. And it's a million and a half."
