Jin didn't go back to sleep.
He tried. For a while he lay there on the moss with his eyes closed, listening to the birds start up one by one in the trees around the school, waiting for his heart to slow down. But every time he started to drift, he saw that ocean of light again. The blank white mask. The plain wooden staff touching the stone, and the whole world leaning toward it.
Eventually he gave up and sat up.
The sky had gone from grey to a pale, washed-out blue, and the first thin line of sunlight was just touching the tops of the trees. It was early. Much too early for anyone else to be up. But he was awake, and his body felt restless, full of a buzzing energy that wasn't going to go anywhere if he just lay there.
He might as well use it.
