Nobody moved.
The tall grass swayed around their knees. Somewhere off to the right, the river was running quietly past the edge of the city. A bird called once from the trees ahead and then went silent.
"What do you see?" Jin asked, keeping his voice low.
Kyung-min didn't answer right away. His eyes were moving back and forth like he was reading something written in the air in front of him.
"We need to go," he said. "Right now. There are people waiting for us in the trees up ahead. If we keep walking, we walk straight into them."
"How many?"
"I don't know. I can't see them clearly. I just see us getting hit." His hand tightened on Jin's sleeve. "Jin, every path I look down where we keep walking, it goes bad. We have to turn around."
That was enough.
"Back the way we came," Jin said. "Toward the hills. Go."
They ran.
