They left the hotel an hour before sunset and still weren't early enough.
The road up the hill was already packed. People were walking in a long, slow line that wound between the trees, families with kids on their shoulders, old couples holding hands, groups of young fighters talking too loudly. Some of them carried folding stools. Some carried food. A few were running, cutting past everyone else up the slope, as if a few minutes might make the difference.
"There are so many people," Yerin said quietly.
"Everyone on the roof came," Kyung-min said. "And everyone on every other roof in the city."
Hyunwoo was walking with his hands in his pockets, looking up at the trees. For the first time since they'd left home, he wasn't carrying his giant bag. He kept reaching back to adjust a strap that wasn't there.
Yuna walked next to Jin. She didn't say much on the way up. But every time the crowd pressed in too close, she drifted a little nearer to Yerin without seeming to think about it.
