Chapter 37 - You are no human!

I hate to repeat myself spirit slave and I sure don't mind things getting bloody" Hal threatened with his daggers appearing in his both palms out of nowhere as he gritting his teeth.

He looked behind them and felt this sting in his heart that really hurt when he saw the girl cower in pain behind them. He felt this fury within him seeing her that way; hurt and in pains. He felt like tearing the spirit slaves apart and taking her to safety. Somewhere safe and secure and even if their baron himself tried to locate her, he was going send him to an early grave.

"You want die so bad eh? Then don't blame us" one of the spirit slaves quickly went after Hal, aiming to hit him with a hard punch as he already gathered all his strength into that one arm.

"Arghhh!" he yelled as he attempted his launch but he was caught mid air by Hal and with one fling, he was sent flying across the trees and finally landed back first against a huge tree and with the crack that sounded after, it was sure that his spine must have suffered very severe damages.

"What are you?!" the other spirit slave yelled in fear on seeing how bad things ended for his partner.

"You are no human!" he quickly concluded, not waiting for Hal to give his answer. "And..." he went further, "I sense no spirit essence in you! Are you.." he shook his head vigorously in disbelief. "No! it can not be! This is human and spirit territory!" he slowly began to retrace his steps backwards. He knew very well that if his suspicions were correct then he was definitely in serious trouble. He needed to secure himself first and later find a way to report the matter back to his master.

"I would say it's rather too late for that decision spirit slave" Hal was very calm with his words but there was definitely no way he was going to allow the spirit slave go, just like that. He already gave him and his partner too many chances minutes ago to walk out of here safe and sound but now he was already angered and their chances were bygone.

"Please let me go demon and I will speak nothing of your trespass into human and spirit territory" the spirit finally found the courage to call Hal out for what he truly was and he planned on using that as a bargaining chip for his freedom from his wrath.

"Is that supposed to be a threat?" Hal growled.

"Please just allow me to leave, I was only acting under the orders of the baron" he pleaded, falling on his knees with his face red and tears welling up in his eyes.

"I already told you this before..." Hal began, crouching to his level. "It is already too late for mercies".

With that, he held his head straight with one hand and with the other, reached for his tongue that he had retracted inside his mouth the minute he held his head. He got a good grip of it and forcefully pulled it away, causing him to let out a very loud groan out of the unfathomable pain he was feeling from his tongue being uprooted. He rolled on the ground a few times, basically to and fro, with his hands covering his mouth as if he was trying to get a hold on to the blood that was flowing freely from it.

Hal looked at him with utmost disgust. He wiggled the freshly pulled out tongue that belonged to the spirit slave in his hand and smiled to himself in satisfaction. How would he rat him out now he thought with a proud smile on his face. He turned his attention and sight away from the lifeless tongue in his hold and looked around for the first time since he started savoring the pleasure of giving the two spirit slaves hell only to find out that the girl was gone.

"Oh no!" his heart raced. 'Where could she have gone?' he asked himself, throwing the spirit slave's tongue away and immediately changed his priority to finding the girl. The spirit slaves were no harm to her now so he could no longer careless about them.

He at once began seeking her in the woods, looking frantically for even a glimpse of her as he was not ready to accept the posed fact that she was gone already. He did not search for long before he heard silent sobs behind a huge tree. He slowly traced his steps to the tree, looking behind it and as he suspected, it was her. She crouched at the foot of the tree, hugging herself and crying quietly. She looked as though she was still trying to stay out of sight and this made him wonder if she was not aware that he had dealt with those bastards and she was safe now or was she actually scared of him? 'no!' how could she?! The thought of that alone made him feel very terrified.

"Hey?" he called out to her slowly, bending down to meet her face. "Are you ok?" he asked with the softest tone he has ever spoken with in his entire life and it actually sounded really weird to him. He had never spoken in such a way before and he was very surprised that he actually could but all that did not matter now, his priority was the woman before him right now and he was going to do everything within his power to keep her safe.

"Are there really gone? she asked in fear, physically fidgeting and still crying.

"Yes. Yes they are" Hal hurriedly answered, feeling this hurt as he watched her cry and shake uncontrollably out of fear.

"They wanted to give me away to the baron..." she began, trying to explain what happened to him while hot tears streamed down her cheeks. "He wanted me, he wanted my body, to abuse me! And do all those disgusting things to me! It was all so horrible! I was so scared!" she cried out loud.

"It is alright now" Hal immediately drew her into his warm embrace.

"They are gone now" he patted her slowly, trying to calm her down because her tears hurt him deeply and he could not understand why.

"Stop crying now, it is all over. You are safe" he held her tightly muffling the sounds of her sobs while he kept on assuring her that everything was alright and she was safe now.

She was still trying to gain her composure before she heard a very familiar voice call her name in an evident panic.

"Saskia?!"

She lifted her eyes immediately to meet the worried face of her best friend, Vesper.

"Get away from her!" Vesper drew her arrow against Hal, sensing he was a threat and wanting to save Saskia.

"No Vesper!" Saskia tried to stand up and stop her from attacking the wrong person but she collapsed immediately. She had totally taken her mind off the head injury she had suffered earlier and now she had fainted from the loss of blood the injury had brought to her.

"Saskia?!" Vesper's heart wrenched. She could not believe she just saw her best friend collapse right before and without thinking twice, she immediately shot Hal right at the heart with her arrow and rushed forward immediately to save Saskia.

Hal felt like he was loosing his mind as he held almost lifeless Saskia in his arms and while he was still trying to pull himself together, he did not see Vesper's arrow coming neither did he feel any pain when it went right into his heart, piercing through his thick clothes and skin.

Under normal circumstances, Vesper would have considered herself dead but right now, he was more concerned about the girl in his arms and he could not careless about the arrow buried deep in his heart. He cupped Saskia's face, shaking her head lightly and hoping she would open her eyes but he soon realized that she needed help, immediate help if he wanted her to come back to life and without thinking twice, he drew her closer to himself and vanished the scene, leaving Vesper's brain to process all that just happened before her now while her head spun in confusion...
