Chapter 269 - The Next Move

8:30 PM.

The final shots were finally done.

Most of the crew had already wrapped and headed home. Castle and Alexis went to get some food and Alex told them to meet him at Titan HQ. There, they will talk about the movie. Halle tagged along with them since Alexis had too many questions.

Right now, Alex sat alone in the center chair.

He leaned forward slightly, elbows on the armrests, fingers loosely interlocked. The large screen in front of him flickered as the mid-post-credit scene began to roll.

He had already used his Universal Editor to tighten a few reaction shots, adjust color temperature, and sharpen the pacing between cuts. A half-second delay was removed here. A micro-expression was enhanced there. The difference was subtle, but he could feel it. The scene breathed better now. Then he added some visual effects.

On screen, the mid-credit footage played first.

Spider-Man was locked in combat with Green Goblin high above the city. Explosions lit up the skyline. The glider sliced through the air like a blade. Peter barely dodged a blast that shattered a building's upper floors. The camera angle from the news chopper shook just enough to feel real without becoming chaotic.

The camera slowly zoomed out from the tablet, revealing the room.

A modern office filled the frame.

Tony Stark stood near a floor-to-ceiling window. He wore a tailored blue suit. A tablet was in his hand as he watched the same news footage of Spider-Man fighting Goblin.

The reflection of the explosion flashed across Tony's glasses.

He looked interested.

There was a faint tilt of his head. A small smirk played on his lips, as if he had just discovered a new toy worth examining.

Behind him, the doors slid open.

An assistant stepped in.

"Sir, the convoy is ready to depart."

Tony did not look away from the screen immediately. He watched Spider-Man swing back into frame and land a clean hit on Goblin's glider as sparks flew.

Then Tony locked the tablet.

He straightened his jacket and said, "Let's go."

The screen cut to black.

"Good," Alex muttered under his breath.

He tapped a few keys and let the final post-credit scene load.

The SHIELD logo faded in.

Then the camera moved through a command center inside headquarters. Agents sat at long rows of consoles. Ten large monitors dominated the far wall, each feeding live footage from different cities around the world.

Nick Fury stood in the center of the room.

His hands were clasped behind his back. His posture was rigid, controlled and he had that deadpan serious look on his face.

"Status update," Fury said.

An agent responded without looking away from her console. "Multiple energy spikes detected in Egypt. Local law enforcement engaged."

Fury's gaze shifted.

Screen 4.

The footage zoomed in.

A city street at night. Police cars scattered. Red and blue lights flashing wildly across wet pavement. Officers aimed their weapons upward.

Then lightning struck.

A bolt ripped down from the sky violently, slamming into a patrol car and flipping it onto its side. Sparks exploded outward.

In the center of the chaos stood a woman.

White hair flowed around her shoulders. Her eyes glowed faintly as electricity crawled across her fingers. The wind whipped around her, bending to her presence.

Another bolt shot from her hand. It hit the ground near a group of officers, sending them diving for cover.

She lifted off the pavement.

The camera focused as she rose higher, lightning spiraling around her. Then she shot upward into the sky, disappearing into the clouds as thunder rolled across the city.

Back inside SHIELD HQ, the room had gone silent.

The agents stared at Screen 4.

Fury did not blink.

"Get me everything you have on her," he said, voice steady and unreadable.

Cut to black.

"Alright, looks great," Alex mumbled to himself.

He transferred the data to his private server and closed the computer. Then he let out a large yawn before standing up. He locked the room and had a little talk with the security guys before leaving the set.

...

Titan HQ – 9:00 PM

The private elevator opened. Alex walked out and went straight to his office.

Castle leaned back with a coffee in hand. Alexis sat beside him, talking to Halle. Rachel was talking to Castle about his books.

The door opened...

Alex walked in, rolled his shoulders once, then dropped onto the couch beside Rachel with a heavy sigh.

"Sorry for keeping you waiting this long," he said, rubbing a hand over his face. "Post-credit scenes always take more time than people think."

Castle waved it off. "If you just introduced three future chaos magnets into your universe, I'd say the delay was justified."

Alex leaned back and looked at Castle.

"Alright," he said. "Let's talk Nikki Heat."

Castle straightened instantly.

"I like the sound of that," he replied.

Alex clasped his hands together.

"I locked the lead actress yesterday," he said.

Castle blinked. "You're not going to make me guess, are you?"

Alex shook his head. "Megan Fox. She's a new talent. She already has a major role in the Spiderman movie and Nikki Heat will be her second movie. And she's good. You can meet her tomorrow at 10 AM after her photoshoot session."

"I sense a but coming," Castle said after noticing the change in Alex's expression.

"But here's the problem."

Alex rested his forearms on his knees.

"If I follow the book exactly, we can't do it as a one-and-a-half-hour film without gutting the soul of it. The case structure, the slow-burn tension, the procedural depth, the relationship development between Nikki and Rook, all of that needs breathing room."

Castle pressed his lips and nodded. "You're saying it works better as a series?"

"Yes," Alex answered without hesitation. "A high-end TV series. Ten to fifteen episodes per season. Tight writing and character-focused. Let the investigations unfold naturally without cutting anything."

Halle tilted her head. "And the movie route?"

Alex replied. "If you want a theatrical release, you'll need to write a new script built specifically for cinema. Bigger stakes with a cleaner central plot. More compressed timeline. Something that delivers impact fast without losing her core identity."

Castle leaned back slowly, thinking.

"You'd produce either way?" he asked.

"I would," Alex said. "But I won't butcher your book just to squeeze it into a runtime that doesn't serve it."

Rachel crossed her legs and finally spoke.

"The book has texture," she said. "You cut too much and it turns into another cop thriller."

Castle glanced at her, appreciating the honesty.

Alexis looked between them. "What would you do if it were yours?"

Alex exhaled slowly.

"If it were mine, I'd protect the long game," he said. "Build the series. Let Nikki grow. Let the audience fall in love with her mind before we throw explosions at them."

Castle's eyes flickered with something thoughtful.

"But," Alex continued, "if you're hungry for the big screen moment right now, then we go bold. You write a cinematic story built from scratch. We design it for theaters from page one. No compromises."

There was a moment of pause as Castle looked deep in thought. This was his big chance to break into Hollywood and, with Alex at the helm, be it a movie or TV series, it's bound to be a major hit.

Alex studied him carefully.

"You don't need to decide tonight," Alex said. "Take a week. Think about what matters more to you. Legacy or spectacle. Maybe start with a TV series and see the audience reaction, then we can move on to the bigger stage. Or, you can write a series only for movies, like an alternate world thing. That way we can keep both originality."

Castle let out a slow breath.

"You really don't do small conversations, do you?"

Alex chuckled softly.

"Not when it counts."

"If you go series and then movies," Castle asked, "could it open doors for crossovers later? You said alternate world, maybe we can bring in an experiment gone wrong, which throws Nikki Heat into an alternate world where she has to work with her counterpart to solve a world-ending crisis and go back to her own world."

"Now you're thinking strategically," Alex nodded. "Yes. It could work depending on the script."

Castle rubbed his chin.

"Alright," he said slowly. "Give me a week. I want to look at the book again with fresh eyes. If I rewrite for cinema, I want it to deserve the screen. If we go series, I want it to dominate that space."

Alex nodded.

"Fair."

He leaned back deeper into the couch.

"And whatever you choose," he added, "we make it powerful."

Halle looked amused. "You say that like there was ever another option."

Alex smirked faintly.

"There isn't."

...

Castle and Alexis left after that.

"How about we have some Indian food tonight?" Alex asked as he stood up and stretched his arms and legs a bit. "I'm thinking of Tandoori Chicken, Reshmi Kebabs and masala kulcha with kadai chicken."

Rachel stood up first, smoothing her blazer as she moved.

"Sounds good," she said calmly. "It's been a while we had Indian food."

Halle pushed herself off the couch and grabbed her phone.

"I'll text the girls," she said, already scrolling through her contacts.

Alex walked toward the bar counter and poured himself a glass of water. The long day was finally settling into his bones. Months of pressure had narrowed down to a finished cut sitting safely on his private server.

Rachel walked over and stood beside him.

"You're quiet," she said.

"Just thinking," Alex replied.

"About the movie?"

"About what comes next."

She studied him for a moment. "You always do that. You win one battle and your brain is already planning three more."

He smiled faintly. "That's how you stay on top."

A moment later...

Halle slipped her phone back into her bag.

"They're in," she said. "Max wants butter chicken. Caroline is asking if they have anything low-carb since she gained a few grams. Angelina told me to tell you not to forget about the promise you made her last night. Scarlett just sent a lightning emoji for some reason."

Alex laughed softly.

"Of course she did."

"What promise did you make?" Halle asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah," Rachel too raised an eyebrow. "What promise did you make with her?"

"Well, you should ask her, not me," Alex smirked before walking toward the door. 'The BDSM kit is ready. I just need to do some room renovation. Hehehe. We're gonna have so much fun.'
