Chapter 327 - Chapter 326: The Sound of Departure

Konoha - The Kenway Compound - The Living Room

The transition was as instantaneous as it was absolute.

One moment, Alaric was standing in the suffocatingly tense office of the Godaime Hokage, catching an S-rank classified scroll from the air; the next, the fabric of space folded silently around him. A brilliant, crackling flash of golden-platinum light illuminated the expansive living room of the Kenway Compound for a fraction of a second before dying down, leaving behind only the faint, metallic scent of ozone.

Alaric stood perfectly still, allowing the residual spatial energy of the Hiraishin to bleed off his form. He was still clad in the standard, olive-green flak jacket and dark blue polo shirt of a Konoha Jonin, a deliberate departure from his usual aristocratic crimson. He had come back simply to notify the people living in here that he'll gone for quite some time and shift his mental gears from village politics to international espionage.

Before he even took a step, his passive sensory abilities washed over the vast estate. Despite the sprawling square footage and the labyrinth of rooms, he immediately pinpointed the distinct, vibrant chakra signatures occupying his home.

'Haku is deep in the West Wing, and the family is upstairs,' Alaric noted, his boots finally moving across the plush rugs.

He navigated the quiet, opulent hallways of the ground floor with unhurried grace, his mind already calculating the logistics of the Fire Capital. Approaching the grand cedar staircase at the end of the corridor, he ascended to the second floor, his footsteps completely muffled by the rich carpeting.

As he walked down the sunlit, airy corridor of the upper level, a low murmur of voices drifted from the partially open double doors leading out to the master balcony.

Alaric slowed his pace, his heightened hearing easily catching the conversation without actively trying to eavesdrop.

"...But why, though?" Naruto's voice carried a mixture of genuine confusion and lingering teenage awe. "I mean... you're the Fourth Hokage, Dad! And Mom, everyone who knew you respected how insanely strong you were. If you guys just walked into the village square right now and revealed yourselves, the whole village would go crazy! You could lead the leaf again! Why stay hidden like this?"

Standing just outside the doorway, Alaric leaned his shoulder against the doorframe, crossing his arms over his flak jacket.

Out on the balcony, bathed in the warm, mid-afternoon sun, Minato and Kushina stood leaning against the polished stone balustrade, with Naruto standing between them.

Minato offered a soft, deeply serene smile, reaching out to gently ruffle his son's unruly blonde hair. The legendary Yellow Flash looked incredibly peaceful, entirely stripped of the heavy, crushing mantle of leadership he had worn in his previous life.

"Naruto," Minato began, his voice carrying the gentle resonance of a man who had finally laid down his sword. "For our entire lives, your mother and I were shinobi. We lived wielding the kunai, we followed the orders of the village, and ultimately, we died for the village. We gave Konoha everything we had to give. Our duty to the Leaf was fulfilled the night we sealed the Nine-Tails."

Kushina leaned in, resting her chin lightly on Naruto's shoulder as she wrapped an arm around his waist, holding him close as if terrified he might vanish if she let go.

"Your father is right, dattebane," Kushina whispered, her violet eyes shining with an absolute, fierce maternal devotion. "We were soldiers for so long. But now... now that we've been granted this impossible second chance, we don't want to be legends, or weapons, or leaders." She pressed a soft kiss to her son's cheek, making Naruto flush slightly but lean into the affection nonetheless. "We just want to be your parents. We want to spend our time with you, making up for the sixteen years we missed. That is our only mission now."

Naruto's blue eyes widened slightly, the profound weight of their unconditional choice striking him directly in the heart. The boy who had spent his life screaming for the village to acknowledge him was suddenly humbled by two legends who were perfectly willing to throw all their acknowledgement away just to sit by his side.

"Mom... Dad..." Naruto murmured, a watery, brilliant smile breaking across his face.

"Touching family moment," Alaric announced mildly, pushing the balcony doors open wider as he stepped out into the sunlight.

The three Uzumaki-Namikazes turned their heads. Naruto grinned broadly at the anomaly, while Minato and Kushina offered warm, welcoming nods. They had quickly grown accustomed to Alaric's sudden, quiet materializations.

"Alaric-san," Minato greeted politely, noting the flak jacket. "You're in uniform today. Did something happen at the tower?"

"Just business," Alaric replied, slipping his hands into his pockets. "I just dropped by to let you all know that I'll be gone for quite some time. I have an S-rank solo mission to take care of."

Minato and Kushina nodded in immediate understanding. As veteran shinobi, they knew better than to pry into the classified details of an active deployment.

"We understand," Minato said, stepping away from the railing. However, a spark of curiosity lingered in his cerulean eyes. "Though, if you don't mind me asking... roughly when do you anticipate returning? I actually wanted to discuss something with you regarding the structural theory of the Shinsei Tensei when you had the time… and other things as well."

Alaric raised a platinum-blonde brow, a teasing, enigmatic smirk curling his lips. He knew exactly how much the sheer impossibility of his resurrection jutsu was keeping the two Fuinjutsu masters awake at night.

"You might have to wait a couple of days... or maybe a week," Alaric replied casually, turning to head back inside. "Depends on how stubborn my target is. Try not to blow up my kitchen while I'm gone."

Minato chuckled, nodding his head in understanding. "Safe travels, Alaric-san."

Leaving the family to their overdue bonding, Alaric navigated back into the hallway, moving toward the far, secluded end of the second floor. He bypassed the main residential suites, arriving at a heavy, soundproofed door that led to a private study room specifically designed for deep concentration.

He didn't bother using Hiraishin or concealing his presence perfectly. He simply placed his hand on the brass knob and turned it, the well-oiled mechanism yielding without a single squeak.

He stepped inside.

The study was a sanctuary of organized chaos. The air smelled strongly of premium ink and ancient parchment. Piles of complex sealing diagrams were scattered across the wide desks, and heavy, leather-bound tomes… many of which Alaric had personally retrieved from the Uzumaki ruins… lay open, their esoteric contents exposed.

At the center of it all sat Haku.

The Ice Devil was hyper-focused, his teal kimono immaculate, his posture rigidly straight. He held a fine calligraphy brush, his dark eyes narrowed in absolute concentration as he traced a microscopic, multi-layered matrix of conditional logic. He was operating at the Master level of Fuinjutsu, diligently attempting to unravel the terrifying, countless layers of rules that governed kinjutsu like the Reaper Death Seal. He was using his well-deserved vacation not to laze around, but to sharpen his mind against the whetstone of impossible theories.

Haku was so deeply submerged in the flow of chakra and ink that he didn't even sense the door open. To be fair, even with his prodigious growth, Alaric knew that Haku was simply not at the level required to sense his passive entry unless Alaric explicitly wanted to be noticed. Haku could have heard the door, perhaps, but the boy's mind was entirely consumed by the math of souls.

Alaric leaned against the doorframe, watching his student work for a few silent seconds. He felt a swell of genuine pride. Talent was common, but relentless, unyielding diligence was rare.

Not wanting to break Haku's delicate flow of concentration too violently, Alaric cleared his throat.

Ahem.

Haku's brush stopped instantly. He didn't jump or startle, but his head turned smoothly, his dark eyes breaking away from the parchment to lock onto the doorway. The intense, calculating focus in his gaze melted away immediately, replaced by his usual polite serenity.

"Yes, Sensei?" Haku asked, setting the brush perfectly across the inkstone. He turned in his chair, offering his full attention. "Is there something you require my assistance with?"

"No, keep at it," Alaric said, waving a hand dismissively. "I'm just passing through to let you know I'm heading out. Got a solo mission from the Godaime. I'll be gone for a couple of days to a week, maybe two weeks max depending on how the board plays out."

Haku stared at Alaric for a moment, taking in the standard flak jacket and the casual demeanor. He didn't ask about the mission details. He simply nodded his head.

"Understood, Sensei. I will ensure the compound remains secure in your absence," Haku promised softly.

"Don't burn yourself out on the Uzumaki algorithms," Alaric advised with a smirk, turning back toward the hallway. "Take a break and enjoy the sun occasionally."

Since Haku was clearly eager to return to his complex matrix, Alaric didn't waste any more time. He gave a final nod, stepped out, and pulled the door completely shut behind him, plunging the study back into its scholarly silence.

Alaric walked down the stairs and exited the main house, stepping out into the sprawling, manicured courtyard.

Above him, on the second-floor balcony, the Uzumaki-Namikaze family had paused their conversation, leaning over the stone railing to watch him as he moved toward the center of the vast, open training grounds.

Alaric didn't turn to face them. He simply walked to a clear patch of earth, rolling his shoulders to loosen the muscles beneath his flak jacket.

He crouched down slightly, dropping his center of gravity. He didn't weave a complex string of hand signs; he simply willed his colossal chakra to the surface.

"…"

He placed his right palm flat against the grass.

Instantly, a massive, hyper-complex formation of black sealing kanji exploded outward from his hand, drawing a perfect, thirty-meter circle across the ground in a fraction of a second. The air pressure in the courtyard spiked violently, a wave of intense, dry heat rolling outward.

POOOOOOF!

A colossal cloud of dense white smoke erupted from the seal, obscuring the entire courtyard and shooting high into the air.

"Ah! That bird!"

Naruto's excited shout echoed from the balcony as the smoke rapidly cleared, blown away by the sheer heat radiating from the creature within.

Standing in the center of the compound was Emberis.

The Phoenix was a breathtaking monument of living fire and ancient majesty. His golden and crimson feathers burned with a controlled, internal flame, and his massive wings remained folded neatly against his sides. He looked down at Alaric with molten, intelligent eyes.

Minato and Kushina leaned dangerously far over the balcony railing, their eyes wide with profound shock as they stared at the mythical beast.

"What... what kind of summon is that?" Kushina breathed, shielding her face slightly from the radiant heat washing up toward the second floor. "It feels like... like staring at a piece of the sun."

"It's crazy, right!?" Naruto beamed, pointing animatedly at the towering avian. "We rode that bird all the way to Sunagakure when we went to save Gaara! It was crazy fast!"

Minato's analytical mind immediately began running calculations. Suna was located deep within the Land of Wind, separated from Konoha by dense forests, treacherous rivers, and an expansive, hostile desert. A standard shinobi squad, moving at top speed with minimal rests, required three full days to make the crossing.

"How fast did you travel, Naruto?" Minato asked, turning to his son, his voice laced with intense curiosity. "How long did the flight take?"

Naruto scratched the back of his head, squinting as he tried to recall the exact timeline amidst the panic of the rescue mission.

"I don't specifically know how fast we were moving because Alaric-san made some weird wind bubble around us so we wouldn't feel the air," Naruto explained casually. "But... from the moment we left the gates to the moment we landed in the sand? I think it was less than two hours."

"..."

"..."

Minato and Kushina stared at their son, absolutely paralyzed.

Two hours. That wasn't just fast. That was a direct, violent violation of the known laws of physics and aerodynamics. To cross that much geographical distance in a hundred and twenty minutes required a sustained velocity that would normally tear a biological creature completely apart.

Down in the courtyard, Alaric casually walked up to the towering Phoenix.

"We're heading South-East, buddy," Alaric communicated through their mental link, resting a hand against the burning feathers without flinching. "To the Fire Capital."

"Very well," Emberis's deep, tectonic voice echoed in Alaric's mind. "A short flight. Barely enough time to stretch my wings."

Alaric smirked, channeling a pulse of chakra to his boots as he leaped effortlessly onto the broad, fiery back of the summon. He didn't bother sitting or strapping himself in; he simply stood near the base of the bird's neck, perfectly balanced, his flak jacket rustling in the rising updrafts.

As Emberis spread his colossal wings… casting a massive, flickering shadow across the compound… Alaric turned his head upward toward the balcony.

He met the stunned gazes of the resurrected Hokage and his wife, and the grinning face of the Jinchuriki. Alaric raised a hand, offering them a crisp, light nod of farewell.

Emberis didn't bother taking a running start.

The Phoenix simply crouched its massive, taloned legs and launched itself into the sky with a single, devastating flap of its wings.

BOOM.

The launch displaced so much air that the cherry blossom trees in the courtyard violently whipped backward, shedding thousands of petals in a pink blizzard.

Emberis shot straight upward, a streak of blazing gold against the blue sky. Within three seconds, the bird was nothing more than a bright, burning star high in the atmosphere.

And then, the sound arrived.

KRA-KOOOOM!KRA-KOOOOM!

Multiple, deafening sonic booms shattered the tranquility of the village, echoing like consecutive thunderclaps as Emberis tore through the sound barrier with casual, terrifying ease, disappearing into the south-eastern horizon.

On the balcony, Minato gripped the stone railing, his cerulean eyes wide as he stared at the empty, echoing sky.

"He... his summon just broke the sound barrier purely through muscular flight," Minato murmured, a rare tone of absolute disbelief coloring his voice. "He didn't even use space-time ninjutsu. That is absurd."

---

Back inside the quiet depths of the second floor, within the insulated walls of the private study room.

Haku sat perfectly still. He was holding his calligraphy brush, suspended a fraction of an inch above a delicate string of containment kanji.

The heavy, soundproofed windows of the room rattled violently in their frames, the deep, percussive shockwaves of the sonic booms vibrating through the timber and stone of the mansion.

Haku paused, closing his eyes for a brief second as the echoes faded.

He let out a long, quiet sigh, an exasperated but profoundly fond sound.

"Show off," Haku whispered softly to the empty room.

Without missing a beat, he dipped his brush back into the inkstone, his dark eyes narrowing in absolute focus as he went back to his diligent study, refusing to let the apocalyptic display of his Sensei's departure distract him from mastering the impossible.
