Chapter 36 - Sweet Dreams

As I got ready to light the blunt, Sophie woke up.

"Sh-shit!" I cried, fumbling with the blunt & lighter, barely hiding it away.

God damn motherfucker! This stupid hoe just had to wake up now?

The truth was, I never smoked before. I was the type of person to actively avoid drugs, but this long ass day brought me to actually try it once.

For a second, I was actually gonna smoke it, but when she woke up, I decisively chose not to. I crumpled the blunt up, and threw it into the trash.

"What were you doing in here? Were you smoking weed?" She asked with a coy laugh.

"Get the hell out! I want to relax!" I screamed at her, clearly annoyed.

"Wait, where will I go?"

"Go to Cinderella's room! Have a fucking sleepover, I don't give a shit!" I pushed her out of the room & slammed the door shut, locking it up.

From behind the door, I saw the knob moving, struggling to get in. Then, I heard a disappointed sigh, and finally, the shadow of her feet went away. She was gone for the night.

Her memories really are gone...

I couldn't believe it. It wasn't out of my expectation, but I was still weirded out.

I laid on the bed for a bit, after pulling out one of the books from the shelf.

I started reading a particularly interesting one about a hunter in the wild west. The main character reminded me of my best friend, Danny.

"Eh." I said, closing the book at around page 20.

I liked villain protagonists. Stories like these, with goody-two-shoes characters annoyed me a lot, primarily because villains are way more interesting and entertaining.

Seeing the way that they committed evil acts. Whether they were once good or if, by some chance, they would have a redemption & become good over time...

That was my favorite part.

Putting the book down, I looked for Arthur Leo's phone. I found it, ready to scroll through youtube. Unluckily, I couldn't get through the lock screen.

It was fingerprint activated, not facial recognition, so I tried, again, to press my fingers against the screen, one by one.

"Huh?" I said, confused.

It seemed like the orb only made me look like Arthur Leo. It didn't give me the same genetic makeup, dna or fingerprints as him. I was still distinctly myself.

Knowing that small fact, I smiled. I'd been through a lot these couple of weeks. From getting my ass handed to me by 2 weirdos, to being forced to kill a kid by a magic orb, to having to hide bodies and sneak around instead of doing things out in the open.

The last fight was especially brutal. My arm received third degree burns, and I definitely lost that battle. It seemed like there were demons in this world that can even defeat me.

A dark realization came over me. I got burned! What did that mean? Was I going to suffer a horrific death?

Quickly calming myself down, I looked at the bright side. Now, I don't have to worry about dodging every attack a demon sends my way.

The black flames lost the biggest point of fear. If I was going to suffer a terrifying death either way, I might as well not bother dodging it anymore.

I'd survived until now, what would be the difference? I'd already suffered a horrific life, and a horrific death wouldn't be much of a change in my eyes.

I thought about what to do, my inner monologue going wild.

I opened the window.

As I looked at the outside window, the cool breeze crept into the room, feeling very nice. It was sorta like a summer night, but not too hot.

"Welp, time to take a shower." I said to myself, talking out loud.

I enjoyed talking out loud, it helped me compartmentalize my thoughts.

As I walked into the bathroom of my dorm room, I saw that it looked very nice. The floor had a marble finish, and the shower itself was very clean.

I looked through several shampoos & creams in the drawer, before I spotted a 3-in-1 bodywash. I decided to use that for my shower.

I gripped the faucet, and slowly fiddled with it. "What th– How does this stupid thing work?"

I had to fiddle with the faucet for like 5 minutes before finally figuring it out. I turned the water on, using my hand to feel the warmth. Finally, I got the perfect temperature.

Turning on the shower, I stepped into the tub.

From there, I took a long shower, thinking about a lot of things. My mind raced, going from thinking about chess, to thinking about Josef Carver, a man I met a long time ago.

Dirt and grime fell off of my whole body, and the soapy water started to clean it all off, throughout.

If only my moral sins could be washed away like this...

Wouldn't that be nice.

I decided to turn the shower off after the water became noticeably cold, and went back into the main dorm room.

I looked around, trying to find something to occupy myself.

I wanted to watch porn, but I figured that, with the weird orb around me, speaking to me whenever it wants, I should care more about my privacy.

I stifled my need, and just decided to watch some television instead.

Turning on the television set, I flipped through the channels. As I did so, I fell asleep watching kids cartoons.

I remembered the cartoons I used to watch as a kid from Earth. A small grin slowly creased into a full on smile, as the nostalgia rushed to my brain.

While drifting off, I kinda wanted to listen to some lofi, or chillhop, but I was still unsuccessful at unlocking Arthur Leo's phone.

Quietly, I fell asleep.

And as I did, I dreamt about being a pirate in space. I had another dream, too. One where a woman was talking to me. She seemed to be saying something important, but her voice kept getting farther and farther away, until I couldn't hear anything.

Sweet dreams, me.
