It was already getting dark outside when Prissy dropped her phone on the bed and just sat there, staring at nothing.
"I'm dying."
Those two words were going around and around in her head like a broken record. She could not move. She could not think straight. Her hands were shaking a little, and her chest felt tight, like something heavy was sitting right on top of it.

She closed her eyes and pressed her lips together hard, trying to hold herself together. Just a few seconds ago she had been eating cookies and drinking juice without a care in the world. Now this.
She stood up from the bed so fast that her juice almost fell off the table.
"Okay. Okay. Just go. Just go and see him."
She did not even stop to change her outfit. She just grabbed her old grey hoodie from the chair, slipped her feet into her worn-out white sneakers, and walked straight out the door.
