Chapter 359 - Silent Movements

In the end, nothing happened to Charon, and due to his offensive comments, he received a new task, which was to become a cook who would improve the food according to their resources.

Why not let him cook? Of course, since he's so dissatisfied with the food, he can help the cooks a lot. Can he do something better?

Charon immediately accepted this task.

But after the trial period ends, beyond that, he will have to accept a separate test that will take a longer probationary period than the rest.

After dinner, Peter and the others returned to the house to rest. All newcomers always take a period of time to recover. Although hunger is the only thing one has in this place, isolation always closes people in.

But following the protocol and more rules, everyone has to regulate their diet; this usually takes a long time so that those admitted to the bases slowly recover. Normally, many arrive in poor condition, something that must be resolved.

Jason looked at everyone, face by face, trying to visualize all those who now belonged to the central base. He knew that everyone here was the most loyal, but he assumed that wasn't entirely true.

After standing up, Jason left the dining hall.

When he returned to his office, he found Negan waiting for him at the office door, as if he wanted to share something.

"Is something wrong?"

Negan just nodded and then looked around. This action made Aifon understand instantly, and he opened the door to indicate that he should go in and talk.

After closing the door firmly, the two walked to the most remote corner of the room, their voices kept to a minimum, speaking in a voice that only the other could hear.

"I thought about it for a few days and discussed it with Lucille for a long time. I plan to try becoming your agent within the CRM…"

Just by seeing Negan's behavior, he assumed the other party was going to mention this matter, but he was surprised when he heard the precise answer; he didn't expect the other party to accept so openly.

Jason closed his eyes, sighed, and looked at Negan's face: "You have to know that once you leave, I won't be able to provide you any kind of help for a short period of time. It all depends on you. The most important thing is that no one can guarantee when you'll come back, or if you can even manage to."

The iconic smile appeared on Negan's face, and he looked quite relieved.

"I didn't say I would leave now, maybe in two or three months, when I'm sure Lucille's condition is almost recovered, according to what the doctors here said. Once I join the CRM like you told me before, I'll get a good position and then I'll be able to come to this place to see my wife."

Originally he had hesitated to let Negan go, but now that he has made the decision first, then what else can he say except accept it happily? In fact, he can only help him make a plan for him to survive and succeed, and the best thing is that they still have a few months to think about it.

"Don't worry, when you come back, I'll definitely make sure Lucille and your child are healthy and safe."

The corner of Negan's mouth curved and he said jokingly: "Hehehe, I remember what you told me. If it's not like you said, I'll come back here with a big army."

There is both a joke and a warning in that sentence. Negan is a decisive and assertive person. He thinks that going to the CRM will be of great help for his status in the base in the future. He also wants to experience it himself. He wants to visualize the CRM and see the difference with this place. If Jason's side is not the best, he will always think of something better for the future of his wife and child. After all, everyone wants to find a better environment to live in, right?

"Birmingham is already ours, we can take at least one hundred thousand corpses out of that place and thousands more in decomposition. The buildings right now as we speak are being cleaned. Once we take all the back land until we reach the sea, at that moment we'll be able to open a walker-free city."

"When you return, you'll know that you never had any chance of the CRM being my enemy. If right now I am sending agents from my organization to the CRM, it's because I don't want to destroy them, I don't want to use power so devastating that I'll be labeled a demon."

Jason had nuclear bombs in his possession; just thinking of using that power on his enemies is a terrifying idea. The consequences would be devastating, and if he now wants to take the whole country without much bloodshed, it's because he wants to expand much more than he had originally imagined.

The two talked for a long time; since they were already planning to get involved with the CRM, they needed to share some of the known information and add some of their own inferences.

But in the darkness of the night, there was a figure on the farthest wall of the central area, watching from afar. Until the lights of the base went out, that figure remained motionless. After a while, he turned around and looked at the person next to him.

"I don't understand why I have to wait until he returns. To be honest, I don't want to be his enemy…"

The man's voice was low and hesitant, and a deep, hoarse male voice sounded from the shadow in front of him: "He doesn't deserve all this and you know very well that he's a threat. All his captains worked with him to rebuild this enormous base, how are we going to take charge if we're not close enough?"

The hoarse-voiced man didn't hear an answer and continued encouraging him.

"Think about it, when we succeed, everything here will be ours. No one from outside will be able to interfere in what is done in this place; they never really have. They just send supplies and don't ask questions, right?"

"Except for a few dozen people, the rest are just trash. Rick, after his wife died, was pushed aside. Shane returned from the exterior base, and we haven't heard anything because our rank doesn't allow it. We can find someone filthy enough to hold a meeting and take all of this as ours."

The deep voice fell silent for a moment, and finally, as if agreeing with the other, said: "Alright, we just need to wait a while and look for opportunities to act at any time."

"Alright, with your words, I'll be at ease."

The two figures in the dark didn't continue talking about this subject. When they finished speaking, one of the figures stood up and walked to the other end of the base wall, implying he was patrolling.

Neither of the two noticed that there was a small black device hidden on top of the containers very close to where they were, and that device had blended into the darkness.

Early the next morning.

Jason worked until very late last night, so he woke up late this morning. It was already eight-thirty in the morning when he left the room.

As soon as he stretched his waist, he saw Carl walking outside with a gun obviously bigger than he could handle.

They say that the best medicine to heal wounds is time; if this phrase applies to children, I'm afraid one would have to add "playing," which is everyone's nature.

Although Jason knows Carl is not going to play, how many kids aren't interested in weapons?

Carl came trotting the whole way, not hiding the look of expectation on his face.

"Jason, I'm going to practice with weapons. Shane promised to train me and everyone in the future."

Looking at little Carl excited with a smile on his face, although the boy was very happy, he still gave him a small warning, telling him to pay attention to his body and not hurt himself; otherwise, he would be deprived of his right to practice firearms.

Carl's face was serious and he nodded seriously.

"I will definitely be careful and practice my skills carefully."

"Very good!"

Clap!

Jason bumped fists with Carl, which made the boy smile again.

After leaving the hallway, he met Guillermo, asked him about the situation, and learned that several convoys had left to transport all the materials to create their own electricity at the base, while the rest complied with regulations and left the base less.

"Most people today have gone to the outer yard to help dismantle several barns and prepare the construction site. Those guys dream of living in a new house as soon as possible."

"Hahaha."

After the two talked for a while, Jason went directly to the smithy in the base.

They say it's a smithy workshop, but it's actually a manual workshop. Currently, the power system has not been implemented in the base, and some equipment brought before cannot be used at all. Now these people are experimenting with new things that will have a new impact in the future. The advantage is that at least they can come to understand something.

As soon as Jason entered through the door, he felt a strong wave of heat. There were several people busy in the room, and the person standing in the center hammering a hammer was an old acquaintance.

Jason waited silently until the other person put down the hammer and then shouted with a smile.

"Jim! Is my order ready?"
