Chapter 19 - Chapter 19 - Vice Captain, the Helmetless Knight

On the sixth city wall of the City of Black Warriors, Gu Erdan, clad in a tattered suit of armor, was swaggering around on patrol, with dozens of underlings trailing behind him.

This group of underlings consisted of not only skeleton soldiers but also the figures of Black Warriors.

Perhaps it was to find someone to talk to, or maybe the Black Warrior King just thought Gu Erdan was interesting.

The Black Warrior King didn't kill him. On the contrary, this Black Warrior King named Krund ~ Sara even extended an olive branch to him and invited him to join his team.

Facing the invitation from a fifth - tier powerhouse, Gu Erdan naturally agreed without hesitation.

So, at this moment, Gu Erdan had been promoted to a junior captain.

Under his command were not only over forty first - order skeleton soldiers he had handpicked but also ten Black Warriors given to him by Sara.

Originally, Sara wanted to pick some high - level skeleton soldiers for Gu Erdan, such as second - tier skeleton guards or Bone Warriors.

However, this kind offer was declined by Gu Erdan. The reason Gu Erdan gave was that he liked to train his underlings from scratch and really enjoyed this process.

In fact, second - tier skeleton soldiers were not easy to recruit, while first - order ones were easier to handle.

The ten Black Warriors following Gu Erdan at this moment all boasted third - tier strength.

These guys weren't here to keep an eye on him. A mere second - tier cannon fodder like Gu Erdan wasn't worth ten Black Warriors monitoring together.

These ten experts were truly given to Gu Erdan as subordinates by the Black Warrior King. They would follow his every order, unless Gu Erdan wanted to lead them to rebel.

Eyeing the Black Warriors standing beside him, each with four javelins stuck on their backs and their equipment extremely sophisticated, Gu Erdan was almost drooling.

Look! Look! This is what a real boss is! This is what a true benefactor is!

Compared with this Black Warrior King, Lord Sara! What was that skeleton wizard before? Could you blame Gu Erdan for choosing to rebel and fight him to the death?

If the skeleton wizard had treated Gu Erdan the same way as Sara, how could Gu Erdan have rebelled?

Patting the shoulder armor of a Black Warrior beside him, Gu Erdan suddenly heaved a somewhat dejected sigh.

"You guys are great, but it's a pity that you're not really my trusted aides and aren't willing to give me your soul fragments. I'm afraid my enhancements won't work on you."

Being one tier stronger than Gu Erdan meant that the Black Warriors would only follow Gu Erdan's orders and not truly swear loyalty to him.

This made Gu Erdan very annoyed.

Taking a few more steps forward and listening to the chaotic sounds of the armor on his body, Gu Erdan looked down at himself.

Previously, in order to escape, this already tattered armor was now in tatters and could hardly be called armor anymore.

Eyeing his poor equipment and then turning to see the imposing appearance of the Black Warriors, Gu Erdan rolled his eyes and suddenly put his arm around the Black Warrior beside him.

"Little brother! Look at your armor, not even a scratch! You must be a newbie on the battlefield, right? Let me tell you! Armor isn't the newer the better! Those so - called scars are an alternative kind of glory on the battlefield! Look at this set of armor on me! The Wuming King set! It's full of scars everywhere! These are the best proofs of the battles I've fought through blood and tears!"

Gu Erdan suddenly reached out as he spoke, intending to draw the weapon at his waist. Unfortunately, this weapon was severely rusted. It took him ages to pull it out, and to make matters worse, it was a broken one.

"Look! This is... uh... the Blade of Tetanus! A treasure enchanted by a top-notch master! It has special effects when attacking humans! Minor injuries will get infected! In severe cases, it will lead to instant death! Come on! Your boss here sees you're pitiful! I'll grudgingly exchange equipment with you. Be good and take off your clothes and weapon for me."

As Gu Erdan spoke, he took off the Wuming King set he was wearing and stuffed it, along with the Blade of Tetanus in his hand, into the Black Warrior's palm.

Unfortunately, although the Black Warrior wasn't very intelligent, he wasn't completely stupid. He still had the most basic judgment ability.

A set of beggar clothes, plus a rusty broken sword. How could these things be called treasures?

That broken sword couldn't even kill a chicken without making a fuss!

Although the Black Warrior caught the items, he stood still on the spot and showed no sign of taking off his clothes.

Seeing this, Gu Erdan's expression stiffened, and his eyes gradually turned sharper.

"Kid! Don't decline a friendly offer and end up facing consequences! I'm the boss! I now declare that your set of clothes is confiscated! Take them off for me!"

Suddenly pouncing forward, Gu Erdan started tugging forcefully, trying to snatch the Black Warrior's armor.

Naturally, the Black Warrior wouldn't agree to this. So the two of them were tossing around on the city wall, struggling for over an hour.

In the end, the Black Warrior, who didn't dare to fight back, still ended up losing. With only an inner armor left on his body, his arm guards, battle boots, helmet, and the like were all taken away by Gu Erdan without exception.

The only reason the remaining inner armor on his body was spared wasn't that Gu Erdan had a conscience, but that he thought it was a hassle to wear, and the thick-ringed inner armor similar to chainmail was also likely to scratch his bones, so he didn't take it.

Here, Gu Erdan cheerfully started putting on the equipment, leaving that Black Warrior stunned.

After a flurry of activity, Gu Erdan's situation changed drastically. In an instant, he transformed from a miserable skeleton into a fully armed foot knight.

A complete set of pitch-black heavy armor, four javelins inserted behind him, a shield in his left hand, and a spear in his right hand. The appearance was simply imposing.

The only drawback was this blood-red rose on the chest. It always looked a bit effeminate.

However, Gu Erdan could sort of understand this. In the medieval period of his world, didn't Western Europe also like to use various flowers as flags? Roses, lilies, marigolds, and the like were everywhere.

After putting on the equipment, Gu Erdan tried to put on the helmet, but was bitten hard by the unruly skull.

This time, the skull only bit on the arm guard and didn't cause any harm to Gu Erdan.

Seeing that the enemy's head wasn't cooperating, Gu Erdan wished he could smash it right then and there.

Holding the helmet, Gu Erdan scanned around. Finally, his vision locked onto that Black Warrior whose clothes had been taken away.

"Ahem! Kid! I now officially appoint you vice-captain! From now on, you'll be my right-hand man! From now on, you'll be called... uh... the Helmless Knight! Come on! Here's this helmet for you! From now on, you'll be my armor, the war helmet that protects my head!"

Perhaps feeling a bit sorry, Gu Erdan put the useless helmet onto this Black Warrior's head while giving him an identity title and promoting him to vice-captain.

However, as he was speaking, Gu Erdan looked at this guy's current appearance and couldn't help but twitch the corners of his mouth. He wanted to laugh but felt too embarrassed to laugh out loud.
