"Oh… You do?"
"Yeah, I told some of my friends about the event, and they said you might just have been socially awkward?" he guessed askingly, as a flash of pain passed over his expression. It went by so fast; Evelynn was unsure about whether she had really seen it or not.
"… They would be correct," Evelynn admitted as slight relief passed over her. Tilting her head slightly in the direction of the banquet hall she asked, "are they here today as well?"
It took a moment before Darius answered but when he did, his voice was notably less jovial.
"No. They fell victim to the tower."
Though he kept his answer short and to the point, Evelynn couldn't help but ask a follow-up question.
"Monsters?"
"People."
Once again his answer was short, obviously not wanting to remain on the topic.
"Oh," was all Evelynn managed to respond as she felt the awkwardness of the current progression of their conversation.
