Chapter 9 - Priest Academy Tour

Kael and Tera stood before the mirror, adjusting their new uniforms. The attire was a unique blend of combat and scholarly wear, with a predominantly white color scheme accented by bronze trim. Zerah had explained that the uniform's design and color represented the lowest rank within the Priesthood, but also symbolized their potential for growth and advancement.

As they finished dressing, Zerah handed them each a stack of textbooks and notebooks, along with a set of writing utensils. "These are your study materials for the upcoming semester. I expect you to keep up with your studies and take notes diligently."

Additionally, Zerah handed Kael a separate bundle containing uniforms for Arin and Lyra. "These are for your companions. I've taken the liberty of having their uniforms tailored to fit their unique needs. Please ensure they wear them during their stay at the academy."

Kael and Tera exchanged a look, both of them feeling a mix of excitement and trepidation as they embarked on their new journey as students of Priest Academy.

Zerah's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as she began to explain the curriculum that Kael and Tera would be following. "You'll be delving deeper into the mysteries of holy magic, learning how to harness its power and wield it effectively. You'll also be studying combat techniques, both physical and magical, to prepare you for the dangers that lurk in the shadows."

She paused, her expression turning serious. "You'll learn about the weaknesses and strengths of the creatures of the Night, as well as various patterns and strategies to help you navigate the complex world of magic. We'll also be exploring the ancient factors that shape our world, so that you can better understand the forces you'll be facing."

Tera's curiosity got the better of her, and she asked, "Zerah, how did you know that there would be others like Kael?"

Zerah's expression turned thoughtful, and she replied, "It was part of the prophecy, but Sybil held that information back. I assume she was trying to prevent panic and chaos among the people. Revealing the existence of multiple individuals with Kael's abilities could have led to widespread fear and instability."

Zerah's eyes narrowed slightly, her voice taking on a hint of disapproval. "Additionally, Sybil may have been trying to prevent the other side from learning about Kael and others like him. The less they know, the better equipped we are to protect our students and prepare them for the challenges ahead."

Kael's curiosity got the better of him, and he asked, "Zerah, I've noticed that Sybil doesn't seem to like you very much. What's going on between you two?"

Zerah's expression turned thoughtful, and she replied, "Ah, Sybil. She's a complex one, Kael. I think she's a tad bit jealous of me, to be honest."

Tera's eyes widened in surprise, and Kael's eyebrows shot up in curiosity. Zerah continued, "You see, Sybil and I are similar in some ways. We're both gifted with extraordinary abilities. But whereas I've been blessed by the Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, Sybil's gifts come from a different source."

Zerah's eyes seemed to gaze into the distance, her voice taking on a reflective tone. "Sybil's been given immense wisdom and knowledge, which grants her telekinesis, psychic powers, and the ability to see beyond the veil. She receives prophecies and visions, which guide her on her path."

Zerah's gaze refocused on Kael and Tera, her expression serious. "There are others like me, chosen ones who've been blessed with Holy abilities. But it's not just about having power, Kael. It's about being able to wield it, to control it, and to use it for the greater good. It's not easy, and it's not something that everyone can handle."

Zerah's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as she continued to explain the intricacies of the Heavens. "You see, in the Heavens, you can receive blessings from other major figures, such as Gabriel, Michael, and other Archangels. However, in other cases, you can be gifted abilities to a certain degree, such as wisdom, strength, agility, and so on. It all depends on how much faith you have and how close you are to the Heavens."

Kael's brow furrowed in concern, and he asked, "But won't that spark problems between us and the people who also worship God? I mean, they might wonder why they aren't blessed like we are."

Zerah's expression turned serious, and she nodded. "That's a valid concern, Kael. However, becoming a Priest isn't just a matter of receiving blessings. You have to pass a test, a trial that pushes your mind, emotions, and body to their limits. Not everyone can be a Priest, Kael. It's a calling that requires a deep commitment, a strong sense of purpose, and a willingness to sacrifice."

Zerah's eyes locked onto Kael's, her gaze intense. "Being a Priest can be taxing, Kael. It requires you to confront the darkest aspects of human nature, to face your own fears and doubts, and to make difficult choices that can have far-reaching consequences. It's not a path for the faint of heart, but for those who are truly called to serve."

Zerah's expression softened, and she placed a gentle hand on Kael's shoulder. "But don't worry, Kael. You have the heart of a Priest, and I have no doubt that you'll excel on this path. You'll face challenges, yes, but you'll also discover strengths and abilities within yourself that you never knew you had."

Zerah returned to her place with Tera and Kael, and as they entered, she handed Arin and Lyra their uniforms. "These are for you both," she said with a smile. "You'll be attending Priest Academy soon, but for now, let's just take some time to get settled."

Zerah explained, "The Academy is always open, but we've just finished our welcoming ceremony, and I want to give you all some time to get accustomed to your new life here. It's a lot to take in, and I want to make sure you're all comfortable before we begin your formal training."

Zerah led the group through the sprawling grounds of the Priest Academy, eager to show them the wonders that lay within. Their first stop was the Magic Library, a majestic building that seemed to shimmer with an otherworldly energy.

As they stepped inside, Kael and Tera's eyes widened in awe. The Magic Library was a marvel of architecture, with towering shelves that stretched all the way to the vaulted ceiling. The air was thick with the scent of old parchment and the whisper of ancient knowledge.

Zerah smiled, pleased with their reaction. "The Magic Library is a unique combination of a library and a classroom," she explained. "Each floor represents a different ranking, with the most basic spells and incantations on the lower floors and the more advanced and complex magic on the upper floors."

As they ascended the stairs, the group noticed that the atmosphere changed subtly on each floor. The air grew thicker with magical energy, and the whispers of ancient knowledge grew louder. Kael and Tera exchanged a glance, their eyes shining with excitement and curiosity.

Zerah led them to a balcony overlooking the central atrium, where they could see students of all ranks studying and practicing their magic. "This is the heart of the Academy," she said, her voice filled with pride. "Here, you'll learn the fundamentals of magic, as well as more advanced techniques and spells. You'll also have the opportunity to specialize in a particular area of magic that interests you."

A sudden burst of flames erupted in their direction, as a white fireball hurtled towards them with deadly precision. But before anyone could react, Kael swiftly raised his hand, and a blast of icy energy shot out, meeting the fireball head-on. The two forces collided in mid-air, canceling each other out in a spectacular display of magical prowess. Kael's eyes shimmered with an icy, blue brilliance as he countered the attack with ease. His hair fluttered with icy strands, and sweat beaded on his forehead, a testament to the effort he had exerted.

As the flames dissipated, a priest emerged from the shadows, dressed in a uniform that was identical to the ones Kael and his friends wore, yet adorned with a distinctive white, golden, and red color scheme.

A moment later, a statuesque woman with golden blonde hair and piercing blue eyes approached the group with elegance and poise. Her beauty was captivating, with a light, ethereal tone to her skin and a slender yet athletic build. She moved with a quiet confidence, her very presence commanding respect. As she drew near, she bowed graciously towards Zerah, her movements fluid and precise.

"Greetings, Zerah," she said, her voice melodious and refined. "I must say, I'm impressed by the young man's skills." She turned to Kael, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "Counteracting a fireball with such precision is no easy feat. You have a natural talent, one that I suspect will serve you well in your studies here."

Zerah smiled warmly as she made the introductions. "Thea Everbright, I'd like you to meet our new students. This is Kael, Arin, Tera, Lyra, and Orion. They'll be under my wing while they're here at the Academy."

Thea's gaze swept over the group, her eyes lingering on each of their faces before coming to rest on Zerah. "Ah, Zerah, you've always had a keen eye for talent. I'm sure these young ones will excel under your guidance."

Thea's attention turned back to the group, and she offered them a gentle smile. "Welcome, all of you, to the Priest Academy. I am Thea Everbright, second daughter of the Grand Headmaster Ael. I'm sure you'll find your time here to be...enlightening."

As Thea spoke, Kael couldn't help but notice the subtle air of authority that surrounded her. It was clear that she was a woman of importance, and her connection to the Grand Headmaster only added to her aura of power.

Thea's gaze fell upon Little Orion, and a warm smile spread across her face. She reached into her pocket and produced a small, delicate ring. The ring was made of silver, and intricate golden inscriptions danced across its surface.

"Here, little one," Thea said, offering the ring to Orion. "A small gift to welcome you to the Academy. This ring has the ability to store magic and release it in a blast, but only three times. Use it wisely."

Arin's eyes widened in gratitude, and he bowed deeply towards Thea. "Thank you, Priestess Thea. Your generosity is most appreciated."

Little Orion's eyes sparkled with excitement as he took the ring from Thea. He looked up at her with a cute expression of doubt, his brow furrowed in concern. "R-really? Only three times? What if I need it more?"

Thea chuckled, her eyes shining with amusement. "Ah, little one, you'll learn to conserve your magic and use it wisely. Besides, three times is more than enough to get you out of most sticky situations."

Thea bid the group farewell, her smile warm and genuine. As she departed, Tera turned to Zerah with a thoughtful expression. "She's quite kind, isn't she?" Tera said, her eyes sparkling with admiration.

Zerah nodded, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "Yes, Thea has always been kind-hearted. I've known her since she was a child, and I've had the privilege of teaching her fire abilities."

Kael's eyes widened in surprise. "You taught her fire magic?" he asked, his curiosity piqued.

Zerah nodded. "Yes, Thea has a unique affinity for white flames. She's quite skilled in her own right, but I've had the opportunity to teach her some advanced techniques."

Arin's eyes sparkled with interest. "And what about you, Zerah? What kind of flames do you wield?"

Zerah's smile grew, and her eyes seemed to gleam with a inner fire. "I have the Three Heavenly Flames," she said, her voice filled with a quiet pride. "They're a rare and powerful gift, one that I've honed over many years of study and practice."

Zerah led the group to a sprawling complex, the sign above the entrance reading "Alchemy Laboratory". As they stepped inside, Kael and the others were immediately struck by the sheer scale of the operation. Rows upon rows of workstations stretched out before them, each one cluttered with an assortment of strange equipment, bubbling flasks, and shelves upon shelves of dusty tomes.

Zerah smiled, clearly enthusiastic about the subject. "Welcome to the Alchemy Laboratory. This is where our students come to experiment, test, and create potions. Alchemy is a complex and nuanced art, one that requires a deep understanding of the fundamental principles of magic and the natural world."

As they walked through the laboratory, Zerah explained that the Academy's knowledge of alchemy had been greatly expanded after the Heavenly 6 had defeated the Monarchs of Night. "We were able to retrieve several ancient tomes from Dracula's castle," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Those books granted us a much deeper understanding of alchemy, allowing us to push the boundaries of what is possible."

Kael's eyes widened as he listened, fascinated by the prospect of unlocking the secrets of alchemy. He had always been drawn to the idea of combining magic and science to create something entirely new, and he couldn't wait to learn more.

Tera's eyes sparkled with fascination as she took in the sights and sounds of the Alchemy Laboratory. She wandered over to a nearby workstation, running her fingers over the intricate mechanisms of a strange machine. "This is incredible," she breathed. "The combination of magic and science is truly awe-inspiring."

Lyra and Arin exchanged a knowing glance, smiling at Tera's enthusiasm. "Tera's always been like this," Lyra explained to Zerah. "Despite having the ability to use blood magic, she's never been too keen on it. She's always been more interested in books and learning."

Arin nodded in agreement. "Yeah, Tera's a bit of a bookworm. But don't let that fool you - when she gets mad, she's a typhoon of chaos. You don't want to be on the receiving end of her temper."

Tera looked up, a hint of a blush on her cheeks. "Hey, I'm not that bad," she protested, laughing. But Lyra and Arin just chuckled, knowing that Tera's temper was legendary.

Zerah smiled, watching the exchange with interest. "Well, I think we can safely say that Tera will fit right in here at the Academy. We value knowledge and curiosity above all else."

As they continued their tour, Zerah led them to a breathtakingly beautiful garden, known as Eden. The garden was covered by a magnificent glass dome, reinforced with intricate patterns of magic that sparkled in the light. Inside, a stunning array of plants and plant life thrived, from towering trees to delicate, exotic flowers.

Priests dressed in green and brown robes tended to the plants with care, their faces serene and content. Zerah smiled as she watched them work. "These priests are responsible for looking after the plants here in Eden. They grow food for the Academy, as well as tend to the many rare and exotic species that call this garden home."

Lyra's eyes widened as she took in the beauty of the garden. "Is this a chosen path?" she asked Zerah, curiosity etched on her face. "Do the priests choose to work here, or is it assigned to them?"

Zerah's expression turned thoughtful. "It is a choice," she explained. "Not everyone is blessed with strong magical abilities, and the Academy recognizes that. We try to make sure that every student has a purpose and a place where they can fit in and contribute. For some, that means working in Eden, using their knowledge of botany and horticulture to help feed and sustain our community."

Kael nodded, understanding. "So, it's not just about magic," he said. "It's about finding your strengths and using them to help others."

Zerah smiled, pleased with Kael's insight. "Exactly," she said. "The Academy is a place where everyone can find their place and make a difference, regardless of their magical abilities."

As they continued their tour, Zerah led them to the second-to-last destination, the Arena of Combat. As they approached the entrance, Arin's eyes lit up with excitement, and Kael's face broke into a wide grin. The Arena was a fairly big stadium, made from gleaming golden and white materials that seemed to shimmer in the light. The architecture was outstanding, with intricate carvings and sweeping curves that seemed to defy gravity.

As they stepped inside, the group was struck by the sheer scale of the Arena. The air was electric with anticipation, and the sound of clashing steel and the murmur of the crowd seemed to echo through the space.

Zerah led them down to the central stage, where a large, intricate design was inscribed on the floor. The design seemed to be made up of various shapes, linking together in a complex pattern. Surrounding the stage were rows of weapons, each one carefully arranged and gleaming in the light. Some of the more exotic or rare weapons were encased in glass, displayed like works of art.

"Welcome to the Arena of Combat," Zerah announced, her voice echoing off the walls. "This is where our students come to hone their combat skills, practice their techniques, and participate in events like tournaments. The Arena is also used for combat classes, where our instructors teach the finer points of swordplay, hand-to-hand combat, and strategy."

Arin's eyes were shining with excitement as he gazed around the Arena. "This is amazing!" he breathed. "I can already imagine the battles we'll have here."

Kael grinned, clapping Arin on the back. "I'm with you, Arin. This place is going to be a blast."

Zerah smiled, pleased to see her students so enthusiastic. "I'm glad you're excited," she said. "The Arena of Combat is a vital part of our curriculum, and I'm sure you'll all spend many hours here, honing your skills and testing your mettle."

As they concluded their tour, Zerah led Kael and his friends to the final destination: the Dining Hall. The moment they stepped inside, they were struck by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The hall was filled with beautifully crafted tables and chairs, surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant flowers. The roof was made of clear glass, allowing the sunlight to pour in and illuminating the space.

Little Orion's eyes widened in wonder. "It almost looks like Eden in here!" he exclaimed.

Zerah smiled, nodding in agreement. "That's intentional," she explained. "As priests and priestesses, our lives can be quite challenging. We need a space where we can relax and feel at ease. The Dining Hall is designed to provide that sense of calm and tranquility."

As they made their way to the food area, Zerah was greeted warmly by a woman who shared a similar skin tone and features. The woman's face was lined with age and experience, but her eyes sparkled with kindness.

"Aunt Fatima!" Zerah exclaimed, embracing the woman warmly.

Aunt Fatima smiled, her eyes shining with affection. "Zerah, my dear, it's so good to see you. And you've brought friends!"

Zerah nodded, introducing Kael and the others to Aunt Fatima. As they exchanged greetings, Zerah explained that Aunt Fatima was from the same region as her, and had looked after her when she was younger. Now, Zerah was returning the favor, helping to care for Aunt Fatima in her older age.

As they sat down to eat, Kael couldn't help but notice the strong bond between Zerah and Aunt Fatima. It was clear that they shared a deep and abiding love, one that transcended mere friendship or acquaintanceship.

As they finished their meal, Zerah's expression turned serious, and she looked at Kael and his friends with a deep intensity. "I want to leave you with one final piece of advice," she said, her voice filled with conviction. "Never lose hope in people. Just because one person may be evil, it doesn't mean that all people are evil. We all have choices to make, and it's up to each of us to decide who we want to be and what we want to stand for."

Zerah's gaze swept over the group, her eyes lingering on each of their faces. "Humanity is what makes us human," she continued. "It's what allows us to feel compassion, empathy, and love. And I can see that each and every one of you is human, because you can eat normal food, you don't show signs of evil, and you have hearts that beat with kindness and compassion."

Kael and his friends looked at each other, feeling a sense of gratitude and appreciation for Zerah's words.

"Always stay strong and have faith in the Heavens," Zerah advised, her voice filled with conviction. "Not everything will work out as planned, and that's just part of life. But it's how we respond to those challenges that defines us. And finally, appreciate all those who are close to you, because anyone can be taken away from you at any moment. Cherish the time you have with each other, and never take your relationships for granted."

As Zerah finished speaking, the group fell silent, each of them lost in their own thoughts. They knew that they had been given a precious gift, a reminder of the importance of hope, humanity, and relationships. And they were determined to carry Zerah's words with them, as they navigated the challenges and adventures that lay ahead.

As the evening drew to a close, Zerah led Kael and his friends back to their quarters, her eyes shining with a warm, gentle light. As they settled in for the night, Zerah smiled, her expression soft and reassuring.

"Get some rest, my dear ones," she said, her voice low and soothing. "Tomorrow is a bright and early day, and a new path awaits you. God is shining His light upon it, and I have no doubt that you will walk in that light, guided by His wisdom and love."

As she finished speaking, Zerah's expression turned playful, and she winked at the group. "And from now on, I want you all to call me Auntie Zerah. We're family now, and I want us to feel like it."

The group smiled, feeling a sense of warmth and belonging wash over them. "Goodnight, Auntie Zerah," they chimed in unison, their voices filled with affection.

Zerah's face lit up with a radiant smile, and she blew them a gentle kiss. "Goodnight, my dear ones. May God bless you with sweet dreams and a bright tomorrow." With that, she turned and disappeared into her own quarters, leaving the group to rest and dream of the adventures that lay ahead.
