Chapter 5: The Choice of a God's Champion
Kael Atris stood upon the ashen battlefield, his newly claimed soldiers and heavenly warriors kneeling before him. The stench of blood and burning metal lingered in the air, yet his heart was empty. Even in victory, even with his newfound power, there was a wound inside him that no battle could heal.
His family was gone.
His mother, the gentle voice that once sang him lullabies. His father, the proud warrior who had taught him the way of the sword. His younger sister, who had dreamed of seeing the stars beyond their war-torn world.
All of them—erased from existence.
Then, the sky cracked open.
A divine presence descended upon the world. The golden radiance of Castellion Arisium, the God of Boundless Might, flooded every corner of the battlefield. Even Kael's celestial soldiers bowed in reverence, their wings folded as they dared not lift their gaze.
Kael alone stood, his golden eyes locking onto the figure of his god, his benefactor, his ultimate judge.
"You have fought well, my chosen," Castellion Arisium's voice resonated, deeper than the cosmos itself. "And for your loyalty, I shall grant you a choice."
The space before Kael shifted, revealing two paths suspended in the void of existence.
The First Path: Regression
A golden portal shimmered, showing a world untouched by war, a time before the chaos began. Kael saw himself—a younger, weaker version—embracing his family, their faces full of warmth and love. If he chose this path, he could return to that time, armed with knowledge of the future. He could rewrite history and save them.
But there was a cost.
If he chose regression, all that he had gained—the celestial soldiers, his divine power, his connection to Castellion Arisium—would be lost. The System would vanish. His struggles, his battles, his victories... they would be undone.
The Second Path: Continuation
The other path revealed a darkened battlefield stretching endlessly, filled with conflict, suffering, and endless war. Yet beyond it, there was something greater—a kingdom of eternal peace, a paradise known as Elysium, where the souls of the righteous found solace. And beyond that, the Netherworld, where those who had committed evil faced divine judgment.
This was the will of Castellion Arisium—a universe where justice reigned, where the good found eternal peace and the wicked were damned to suffer.
If Kael chose continuation, he would never see his family again in the mortal realm, but he could trust that they rested in Elysium, safe and at peace.
Kael's Decision
Kael's fingers clenched into fists. The temptation to regress was strong. The longing for his family ached like a wound that would never close.
But then, he thought of the path he had walked. The people he had saved. The soldiers who now followed him with unwavering loyalty. If he chose regression, he would be abandoning them.
More than that... he would be betraying Castellion Arisium.
Kael closed his eyes, exhaling slowly.
"No," he said at last. His voice was steady, unshaken. "I will not regress."
The golden portal flickered, then shattered into dust.
Kael lifted his gaze to Castellion Arisium, conviction burning in his soul. "I trust in your Elysium for the righteous and your Netherworld for the wicked. My family is at peace, and I will honor them... by moving forward."
For a moment, silence reigned. Then, Castellion Arisium's divine presence pulsed, his approval radiating through the air.
"So be it."
Kael felt his power surge—his essence solidified, his divine connection deepened, and his path became clearer than ever.
He had chosen continuation.
And now, he would carve his destiny with his own hands.
