Seeing the call had ended, Violet Zimmerman hurried to grab Joseph Lancaster's hand, "Joseph, what happened?"
Lowering his eyes to look at this woman who had suffered a lot for him, Joseph Lancaster lifted his hand to rub her brow, smoothing the wrinkles in between. The serious expression on his face vanished, and he spoke in a gentle tone.
"It's nothing, just a small issue with a company project that Robert and I were discussing."
"Joseph..." Violet clearly didn't believe him. Her son would handle project matters himself and wouldn't call to ask them.
"Don't worry." Joseph Lancaster patted Violet's shoulder again, "Didn't I just say? Our two sons have grown up, and they're more than capable of shielding you from all harm. Let's just consider this an opportunity for them to demonstrate themselves, okay?"
Looking into Joseph Lancaster's phoenix eyes, Violet Zimmerman felt inexplicably reassured, but still—
"I want to know what happened."
