Violet Zimmerman should have avoided it, but thinking of the purpose of her visit, she could only stiffen her body as the young man's slender fingers fell on her eyelids. Joseph Lancaster checked up and down, his expression serious, frowning and talking to himself.
"Have there been cases of conjunctivitis recently? Why are both eyes red?"
Violet felt very anxious inside, she could even hear her heart pounding incessantly.
Her eyes were red from crying; after returning home, she locked herself in her room and cried for an entire afternoon, missing dinner at the old master's place.
"Sis, are you feeling unwell? At dinner, my brother said you're under the weather. Is it because of this?"
"Mm," Violet responded perfunctorily; she didn't know if it was her mind playing tricks or if Joseph Lancaster's fingers were genuinely hot, scorching her eyes with acidity, making her want to cry.
"Sis, I have some eye ointment in my room. Come upstairs and I'll help you apply some."
