When Alice Turner said the words "boring idle person," she deliberately emphasized her tone. She wanted Benjamin Shaw to pay special attention to these words.
Seeing the woman sitting across from him get angry because of his words, Benjamin Shaw put away the sour irritation in his heart. When he spoke again, his words sounded much better, "Don't mind it, I was just casually asking. You can just casually listen to it."
"We're indeed not idle people. I came to see you today because I want to have a proper chat about things between us." He said a lot at once, and luckily she didn't interrupt him.
"Didn't we already talk clearly about our issues that day? You..."
"Don't be so tense. I'm not trying to use the injury to threaten you into anything with me. I'm not that despicable."
Alice Turner had only said half of what she intended when Benjamin Shaw interrupted her abruptly. What he said was indeed what she worried about. Him calling himself despicable seemed too severe to her.
