Chapter 25 - Delicious

Elizabeth looked…feral, her eyes white and her hair a mess that covered nearly half her face. She was hunched over Victoria on all fours like a rabid dog, pieces of flesh stuck in her teeth and blood covering her mouth and hands. She had a large gash on the side of her face…but that wasn't where the blood came from. I barely recognized Victoria, I couldn't see her face…but a sinking feeling in my gut told me there wasn't much left to see. Her left arm had been torn off and thrown against the wall…the walls were splattered in red. I stood, my eyes shaking. Her face shoved into the small girl's torso, all I could hear was the loud sounds of eating shattering against the quiet. I gagged loudly at the sound, "Oh Gods," I held back the bile crawling up my throat, the acidic taste shocking me out of any form of drowsiness. Elizabeth looked up at the three of us with a feral intensity in her eyes. Damn it, she had certainly heard my loud gags. Penelope looked up, stopping dead in her tracks. Her jaw dropped, she didn't gag, she seemed practically shellshocked. If I didn't know how much more her hearing had been damaged compared to mine, I'd be pissed Penelope hadn't heard the loud eating earlier. Bear was shaking again, not with anger…but with rage now? Elizabeth stood, her knees buckling a little. She was stick thin, I could see her ribs even through the dress, her cheekbones high…she looked dead already. Her head lulled to the side, her hair was messy…her skin scraped, her white dress stained red…she didn't look like herself. Not like the proper preparatory girl I knew her to be…not the girl Basil had practically fallen in love with…the girl who I may not have trusted…but I slept in the same room as her. Could she have snapped sooner and killed us instead? How many nights did I spend next to a girl so insane…she'd kill someone. Elizabeth took a step closer, I instinctively took a step back, glancing behind me…we were cornered. Bear took a step forwards, brandishing the knife. I screamed as he charged, running forwards to stop him but I wasn't fast enough. I heard the horrible sound of stone scraping against stone as a wall slid into place to separate us. I hit the wall, falling to my knees and starting to bang and scratch at the wall. "NO NO NO NO NO!" I screamed and screamed until my lungs burned…then I cried. Bear wasn't a coward…he was the bravest bear of them all.
