"Things are getting interesting..." A faint smile appeared on Grindelwald's face. "Maybe not everyone in there belongs to the Scourers."
He raised his voice.
"Everyone, listen carefully. Try to leave a few alive!"
Wade really wanted to say that if the enemy truly had only fifty or so people, taking prisoners alive would naturally be possible.
But... there were clearly far more than a hundred of them.
With over a hundred desperate criminals on the other side, they obviously were not afraid of the Aurors here. So Grindelwald's original plan of beating a routed enemy into submission probably was not going to work very well.
Sure enough, Grindelwald had only just finished speaking and had not even given the order to attack when the enemy's spells came roaring toward them.
Dozens of fiery red Blasting Curses streaked across the distance with long trails of flame behind them.
Fortunately, the Alliance members serving as Aurors were all experienced and powerful wizards. Before the Blasting Curses even arrived, they had already raised their wands together.
A huge magical barrier rapidly formed in front of the Alliance members.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The Blasting Curses slammed into the barrier, blasting cracks across its surface, but the shield held firm.
Naturally, the Alliance members were not going to simply stand there and take it.
After blocking the first barrage, they immediately returned fire, hurling dozens of Blasting Curses back at the enemy.
To everyone's surprise, the other side also raised a barrier in time and blocked them.
Wade rubbed his nose.
"Director, I think we may have walked into a trap. These people don't look like ordinary small fry..."
"Trap or not, there's no backing out now." Grindelwald frowned. "The Anti-Apparition wards are already active. If we retreat now... we'll be the ones getting beaten while we run."
After another string of explosions, Grindelwald stopped hesitating and waved a hand forward.
The Alliance members advanced, firing spells as they charged.
This was the first time Wade had ever seen a battle on such a large scale.
But...
Their tactics seemed rather crude.
No cover at all?
They were just exchanging spells head-on!!
Neither side was treating the other like human beings.
While Wade was still thinking about it, Tom had already shouted and charged forward with the Alliance members.
"Wait, seriously... aren't you being a little too brave?!"
"Wade!" Dumbledore hurriedly called out.
"Uh... fine..."
Wade had no choice but to follow quickly, lest Hydra's second-in-command die before accomplishing anything.
Only after he moved did he realise that Miravia had already taken Nagini and rushed to the very front.
Well...
Asking someone even more battle-crazed than Tom to protect Tom was probably asking a bit much.
The battle had only just begun.
Although it looked fierce, both sides were still mostly probing each other, so even after two minutes, neither side had suffered any casualties.
"These Scourers are way too elite..." Wade muttered as he casually deflected several spells and reached Tom's side.
Tom smoothly used an incomplete Shield Charm to block several attacks as well.
Then his wand flicked upward.
A wall of earth rose from the ground just in time to block a Killing Curse.
That single green flash was like a bucket of cold water dumped over Tom's head, instantly cooling his battle fever.
"You charged too far ahead, Tom." Wade crouched behind the earthen wall beside him.
"Damn... if the ring hadn't warned me, I really might not have dodged that Killing Curse in time. I almost had to activate the protection on my watch," Tom said, still shaken.
"Tom! You're being far too reckless!" Dumbledore scolded him. "In battle, especially in this kind of chaotic melee, individual strength becomes insignificant very quickly. Stay here and don't move around recklessly!"
With that, Dumbledore walked out with his wand in hand.
"He's right, Tom. You still lack real combat experience." Wade pointed toward the others. "Look at them. They may be charging quickly, but they're still constantly cautious. Whatever happens, they already have a method prepared to respond. You, on the other hand, just rushed in without preparing anything. Unless you can fight as recklessly as she can."
Wade pointed toward Miravia.
At the very front, Miravia had already taken down several opponents from a distance.
Of course, no matter how powerful a wizard was, once Apparition was unavailable, even they had to use cover properly.
Especially after becoming the focus of enemy fire.
Miravia's position was far too conspicuous, so naturally she had become the main target.
At the moment, she and Nagini were both taking cover behind an earthen wall.
"Why isn't she using nightmare magic?" Tom asked in confusion.
Wade shrugged.
"Don't try to understand a battle maniac."
Nightmare magic ended fights too quickly.
For someone like Miravia, that would be far too unsatisfying.
She had finally encountered a large-scale battle today.
How could she possibly be willing to end it so easily?
The moment Wade finished speaking, Miravia stepped out from behind cover again.
Every spell fired at her, even Killing Curses, was casually knocked aside.
Neither Wade nor Tom had any idea how she was doing it.
Only then did they realise that the earthen wall Miravia had created was actually meant for Nagini.
Tom gritted his teeth and charged toward Miravia without looking back.
"Tom, seeing you suddenly become this brave is honestly taking some getting used to!" Wade called after him in surprise.
"If I've got someone this strong to hide behind, why would I stay back?" Tom replied as he ran straight behind Miravia.
Miravia did not mind Tom using her as cover at all.
She even deflected several spells aimed at him without any visible effort.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Tom rapidly familiarised himself with his magic in actual combat.
"Senior, you..."
"Relax. Didn't you ask me to protect Tom?" Miravia said, her eyes burning with excitement. "If I kill all the enemy wizards, then Tom will be safe, won't he?"
"Whoa... then I'll help you..."
"I'm warning you! Don't steal my kills!"
"That's right! Wade, don't steal mine either!" Tom shamelessly chimed in from beside her.
