Chapter 52 - One Minute Before Freedom

The instructor glanced at the clock.

3:59 PM.

One minute.

One minute before he could officially end the class and send everyone home.

He straightened, adjusting the notes in his hand.

"Alright, that's all for today. Remember to review—"

The doors slammed open.

The entire class jolted.

A dark, imposing presence strode into the room.

The air shifted instantly.

Every Beta instinctively stiffened.

Every Omega shrank back.

Even the Alpha students went completely still.

Because standing at the entrance, calm and furious in equal measure, was Zhao Alexander.

And he was not in a good mood.

Nene groaned.

She had just been about to escape.

She had just been about to enjoy the rest of her day.

But no.

Of course he had to show up.

"...You have got to be kidding me," she muttered under her breath.

Alexander's sharp gaze locked onto her instantly.

His expression was unreadable.

Calm.

Controlled.

Perfectly composed.

But his eyes?

Lethal.

The entire classroom held its breath.

Alexander took another step into the room.

"You went to the club," he stated.

Nene rolled her eyes.

"Wow. Observant. You want a prize?"

The tension in the room spiked.

Even the instructor looked mildly impressed by her ability to test fate in front of an entire classroom.

Alexander's gaze didn't move from her.

"You went to the club," he repeated, "without the assistant."

Nene exhaled through her nose.

"I can handle myself."

His jaw tightened.

"And you were near an Alpha."

Oh.

So that was what this was about.

Nene crossed her arms.

"It wasn't a big deal."

The room went even quieter.

Everyone suddenly understood that this wasn't a normal husband-wife argument.

This was an Alpha trying very hard not to lose his temper.

And an Alpha mate who apparently had no interest in making that easier.

Tian had ratted her out.

Her business partner at the club and music label.

That damn traitor had immediately reported the incident.

And apparently, when an Alpha enforcer came back with his packmates looking for revenge after Nene had publicly put him in his place with dominance.

it became a very big deal.

The worst part?

Tian hadn't exaggerated anything.

Judging by Alexander's arrival, he had made sure to explain everything.

Nene ran a hand through her hair, forcing herself to stay calm.

"I handled it," she said evenly. "End of story."

Alexander's expression didn't change.

But his voice dropped.

Low.

Controlled.

Dangerously calm.

"No."

A pause.

"It isn't."

The room was dead silent.

No one dared breathe too loudly.

Then Alexander said the words that ended the discussion.

"We're leaving."

Nene stared at him.

She was still seated.

"Yeah, see, I just got comfortable, so—"

"Now."

The instructor wisely remained out of it.

The Betas looked like they wanted to dissolve into the floor.

The Omegas looked like they were praying for her soul.

Even the Alpha students weren't stupid enough to interfere.

Nene groaned.

She rubbed her temples.

"God, you are so dramatic."

Alexander said nothing.

He simply waited.

Nene stared at him for another second.

Then pushed her chair back.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

"Fine."

She grabbed her bag.

"But for the record? You're overreacting."

Alexander's jaw tightened.

He didn't answer.

He simply turned and walked toward the door.

Nene followed.

The door swung shut behind them.

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

Then the room exhaled.

A Beta boy wheezed.

"Holy—"

The instructor chuckled.

He calmly placed his notes on the desk and looked around the room.

"Well," he said, clapping his hands together once.

"That was educational."

The class exploded.

"Holy shit!"

"Did you see his face?"

"He was furious!"

"No, but why was she acting like it was nothing?"

A Beta boy near the back let out a low whistle.

"She's either fearless or insane."

An Omega girl shook her head, still wide-eyed.

"Or both."

The instructor leaned casually against his desk.

"Well," he mused, "I hope you all paid attention."

Several students turned toward him.

"...To what?"

The instructor raised an eyebrow.

"Because that," he said smoothly, "was the clearest example you'll ever get of an Alpha mate ignoring an Alpha's authority—"

He paused.

"—and living to tell the tale."

The Betas shuddered.

The Omegas nodded solemnly.

A Beta girl muttered,

"Yeah, but for how long?"

The entire class winced.

The instructor looked toward the door Nene had disappeared through.

Then back at the students.

"Excellent question."

A beat.

"Unfortunately, I value my employment, so I won't be answering it."

The room burst into nervous laughter.

A Beta boy near the back rubbed his temples.

"I don't know about you guys, but I am increasing my safe distance."

Several students turned toward him.

He held up both hands.

"Thirty feet. Minimum."

A pause.

Then a wave of agreement.

"Thirty feet sounds good."

"Smart."

"Yeah, I like being alive."

One of the Omega girls shook her head.

"Honestly? We should call an emergency meeting with the teacher to discuss this."

The instructor, who had been casually sipping his tea, slowly raised an eyebrow.

"...You want to call an emergency meeting?"

The Beta boy nodded seriously.

"Yes."

The instructor set his cup down.

"Approved."

The class stared at him.

He smiled.

"First agenda item: nobody approaches Miss Nara."

A hand went up.

"Second?"

The instructor didn't even hesitate.

"Second agenda item: nobody tells the Alpha that we made an emergency meeting about his wife."

The room went silent.

The Beta boy slowly lowered his hand.

"...Actually, sir, I think thirty feet might not be enough."

The instructor nodded solemnly.

"Now you're learning."

A few students laughed nervously.

The instructor glanced at the clock again.

4:00 PM.

He picked up his tea and took a slow sip before setting it back down.

"Since apparently my last five minutes of class have created more questions than the actual lesson…"

He looked around the room.

"I'll answer them tomorrow."

Several students immediately started talking at once.

"Wait, tomorrow?"

"Can we ask about Alpha mates?"

"What about working for a top-ranking pack?"

"Sir, what exactly counts as challenging an Alpha?"

"Can you survive if—"

The instructor raised one hand.

The room quieted.

"Tomorrow."

He pointed toward the clock.

"Class is over."

A few students groaned.

The instructor smiled.

"And since you've all suddenly developed an interest in surviving your future careers…"

He gathered his notes.

"Tomorrow, I'll tell you exactly what to watch out for when dealing with an Alpha."

The room went quiet again.

He paused.

Then added casually,

"Especially a top-ranking one."

Several students exchanged looks.

The Beta boy near the back slowly raised his hand again.

The instructor stared at him.

The boy lowered it.

"...Tomorrow," he muttered.

The instructor nodded.

"Good."

He picked up his tea.

"Now go home before one of you accidentally gives me another practical demonstration."

The class burst into laughter.

But as the students began gathering their things, more than one of them glanced toward the door.

Toward the direction Nene and Alexander had disappeared.

Nobody said it aloud.

But everyone was thinking the same thing.

Tomorrow's lesson was going to be interesting.
