Aralyn's POV
I was running again.
No matter how far away Shadowvale felt from Vasthral during the day, no matter how many glowing hallways, magical classrooms, or strange creatures I surrounded myself with, my nightmares always dragged me right back there the moment I closed my eyes. Back to the filthy streets, the rotting alleys, and the life I had tried so desperately to escape. It never mattered how exhausted I was or how badly I wanted rest because the second sleep took me, the memories came crawling back like they had claws buried inside me.
The sound of the gunshot echoed loudly in my ears again.
Once, then twice.
