Nyara pov
A restless unease stirred me from sleep, a nagging sense that something was amiss. The house was too quiet, the silence a heavy, oppressive blanket. Every creak and rustle seemed amplified, sending shivers down my spine. I sat up, my heart pounding, straining to hear any sound. Iyla slept peacefully next to me, oblivious to the dread that gripped me.I left the room and went to the my living room making sure I closed and locked the window because the house felt weirdly chilly .
Then, the front door burst opened, a dark figure silhouetted against the night. A mask obscured his face, but the glint of a knife in his hand was unmistakable.
"Kail isn't going to save you," he hissed, his voice a low, menacing growl.
Kail? The name was foreign, unknown. Panic surged through me, a cold, suffocating wave. I had to get to Iyla.
I lunged for the stairs, but he and his friends were faster. He grabbed my arm, yanking me back, his grip like iron. His other hand tightened around my throat, cutting off my air. As he lend down to my ear and whispered we'll take good care of you let us have a little taste of you. He started kissing on my face and going down my neck and with his other hand trying to take my shorts off. I kept kicking my legs and moving which made it harder for him to take my shorts off.
Tears streamed down my face as I struggled to breathe, my heart pounding against my ribs. I could hear Iyla's soft breaths from upstairs, and the thought of her in danger spurred me on. I clawed at his hands, desperate for air. I couldn't just die like these not when I have a my daughter waiting for me.
"Mommy!" Iyla's terrified voice echoed from the hallway, and my heart shattered. She stood there, clutching her teddy bear, her face streaked with tears.
"Run! Hide!" I screamed, my voice hoarse and frantic.
His smile twisted into something cruel. "I'll get your daughter next," he taunted, and a surge of raw rage erupted within me.
My gaze fell on knife on the side of us, lying on the floor. I lunged for it, my fingers trembling as I grasped the handle. With a desperate cry, I plunged the blade into his neck. Blood sprayed across my face, warm and sticky, as his body went limp, collapsing on top of me.
I shoved him off, my heart racing, my mind reeling. I killed him. The reality of it was a heavy weight, but there was no time to dwell. I had to find Iyla.
"Iyla!" I called, my voice breaking. I found her huddled in the closet, trembling, her teddy bear clutched tightly.
"Mommy!" she cried, and I scooped her up, holding her close. "Keep your eyes closed, baby. We have to go!"
We dashed through the house, but as we reached the front door, two more men appeared, blocking our escape.
"Where do you think you're going you killed our member and now you're running?" one of them asked, his voice dripping with malice.
"Kail won't be able to save you," the other smirked, and my blood ran cold.
Who is Kail? We were trapped.
Suddenly, the the man in front of me had blood splattering on me and Iyla. That caused me and Iyla to scream. And thats when I saw it a tall man with long locs stood in where the man had stood with a knife covered in blood, his movements swift and deadly. He killed the the other men blocking the doorway with brutal efficiency.
He took a step towards us, and I instinctively held Iyla tighter, pointing the bloodied knife I just picked up at him.
"It's okay," he said, his voice low and urgent. "I'm not here to hurt you. I'm here to save you. We don't have much time. There are others coming."
"How can I trust you?" I asked, my voice trembling. "I don't know you."
He glanced towards the door, his eyes narrowing. "Shit. They're already here." He looked back at me. "Hide. Now. I'll take care of them, but you two need to hide and stay quiet. Don't come out until I come get you. Go!" He handed me a strange, metallic gun.
I held on tighter to Iyla, my heart pounding, and ran towards my room in my closet. We slid onto the floor, tears streaming down my face. "We have to be quiet," I whispered to Iyla, who was sobbing softly and trembling. I blocked the entrance with anything I could find, creating a makeshift barricade. Panic clawed at me. I held Iyla tight and kept these melt pointed to the door.
