Chapter 180 - Chapter 179: Bribe

"Stop! This is the Tenryou Commission's front line. Unrelated personnel, leave immediately!"

Before Bai Luo and Tatyana could truly set foot on Tatarasuna, they were stopped at a checkpoint by a squad of Shogunate soldiers.

They looked with disgust at the glaring red robe on Bai Luo. If not for the orders from above, and the fact that Bai Luo only carried a worn-out oil-paper umbrella, they would have probably already taught this guy dressed as a Battousai a lesson.

"I came after seeing this."

Carefully taking a flyer out from his robes, Bai Luo smiled and handed it over.

After taking the flyer, the man was stunned.

Because this flyer actually had the insignia of an officer, which meant... they had to give this guy special treatment.

Glancing at the young girl behind Bai Luo, whose eyes seemed to be afflicted with a serious illness, the Shogunate soldier said nothing more, simply waving them through.

Bai Luo had originally thought they would be searched, so he was already prepared to have Tatyana use an illusion to "smuggle" them past.

He never expected them to let the two of them in so easily.

They didn't even ask him to take off his mask.

After passing the checkpoint, someone was already waiting for them.

Seeing Bai Luo and his companion, the man seemed a little surprised, as he didn't expect anyone to be able to come from Nazuchi Beach.

Although Bai Luo was dressed as a Battousai, he had no visible weapon, only a worn-out oil-paper umbrella tucked into his belt.

It seemed these two were quite lucky not to have run into the pirates entrenched there.

"Where are you from?"

The person in charge of registration took out a pen and paper and asked the two.

"From the Hanamizaka area in Inazuma City."

Bai Luo smiled politely, giving a fake address.

"People from Hanamizaka? What are you doing here?"

The man, who had already filled out part of the form and was about to write down the address, looked up in surprise at the two before him.

Judging by their clothes... such fine fabric indeed didn't seem like something the miners of Tatarasuna or the refugees of Yashiori Island could afford. He probably wasn't lying.

"My young lady, Miss Hina, likes to write light novels. We came to Yashiori Island to gather material for her novel, but unexpectedly ran into this disaster. I hope you can accommodate us."

As Bai Luo spoke, he took out the purse Gorou had given him and stuffed a large handful of Mora into the man's hand.

Seeing this, the man in charge of registration quickly looked around.

After confirming that no one was paying attention, he swiftly pocketed the money.

"Right, from Hanamizaka, are you? Don't take the large ship. I can arrange for a small boat to send you back."

After stashing the Mora, the registrar tore up the paper he had half-written on and said nonchalantly.

He seemed to know something about the large ship.

"My young lady has a chronic eye condition and cannot be exposed to the sea breeze. Please be considerate."

This man's attitude further deepened Bai Luo's suspicion of the large ship.

So he simply took out Gorou's entire money pouch and gave it all to the man.

It wasn't his own money anyway, so he didn't feel the pinch.

However, just handing over the money pouch wasn't as satisfying as shouting "Put it on General Gorou's tab!"

"Alright, I'll arrange the best spot for you."

Looking at the bag of Mora, the registrar actually wanted to say something.

But due to military regulations, he could only hold it in.

After filling out the form for Bai Luo and his companion, the man wrote a separate small note and had them take it with them.

"Give this little note to the person who takes you to the camp. He'll know what to do."

"Thank you for your consideration."

"You two...唉, never mind."

This man was a decent judge of character. From Bai Luo's speech and demeanor, he was certain that even if these two weren't descendants of a famous family, they were still people of some standing.

To get on that ship just like that was truly a pity.

But good advice is lost on a willful ghost. Since the two of them insisted on boarding the ship, this was all he could do.

He hoped his colleague could help. At the very least, he couldn't have taken their Mora for nothing.

After receiving the form, Bai Luo was led by another soldier, bypassing the Mikage Furnace in the center of Tatarasuna, which was now protected by a shield, and headed towards the Kujou Encampment.

Bai Luo had thought he was being taken to the military barracks, but halfway there, the soldier led them on a detour to a beach located between the Kujou Encampment and the center of Tatarasuna.

This beach had a pier, which was already crowded with refugees and miners who had come from Yashiori Island after receiving the flyers.

Judging by the tents and banners at the pier, this place was likely a former stronghold of the Treasure Hoarders, but after the war between the Shogunate and the Resistance broke out, these rat-like fellows sniffed out the danger and quietly fled.

The encampment was later taken over by the Shogunate and was now being used to house those affected by the Tatarigami, which was more than suitable.

The people of the Shogunate had witnessed how terrifying the Tatarigami was; they would never dare to randomly place these people inside their military camps.

"Newcomers?"

The officer in charge of this camp first frowned upon seeing Bai Luo's attire, because no Shogunate soldier would like or admire a Battousai. If it weren't for the Battousai... the Shogunate's side wouldn't be having such a difficult fight.

What's more, the Battousai had injured the god they believed in.

However, the expression on his face was quickly replaced by a fake smile.

He had not forgotten what his duty was.

"The gentleman at the checkpoint asked me to give this to you."

Bai Luo took out the form and the small note the other man had left and handed them to the officer.

He also explained where they came from.

"Oh? Let me see."

The officer opened the note, glanced at it briefly, then crumpled it into a ball and threw it into the nearby sea.

Bai Luo had already seen the note beforehand. It seemed to be written in some kind of code, and he planned to have his intelligence department decipher it later.

"So you're from Hanamizaka? Well, come with me. I'll arrange a better tent for you."

Bai Luo's money had not been spent in vain. The officer's expression had clearly softened, and the fake smile on his face now held a bit more sincerity.

But beneath that sincerity, there seemed to be a hidden sense of pity.

He could tell that the two people before him had not been affected by the Tatarigami. It must have been a coincidence that they received the flyer and came here.

Never mind, since they already know about this matter, they might as well get on the ship together.

After passing through the refugees who were either lying or sitting down, the officer led the two to a relatively clean tent.

"You and your wife can stay here for now. When the time comes, we will notify you to board the ship. Remember not to wander around, or you will be arrested as spies for the Resistance."

After giving detailed instructions, the officer left.

More and more refugees from Yashiori Island were coming to seek shelter. He still had many things to deal with and certainly couldn't stay and chat with Bai Luo and his companion.

And as for Bai Luo and his companion, they had now truly managed to blend in.
