Chapter 33 - Chapter 33

5 days had passed since the battle between Weber, Captain Esther and Shinto.

Within that space of time, Weber lived in his house with Charlotte and hadn't observed any signs of Foresight.

Another thing he found peculiar was the peace that the world was currently having.

For thousands of years most countries were in constant battles against the other without any clear wins or losses without the intervention of Captains.

The hostility was still there itself, but the tension had, for some reason drastically reduced.

No report of mass killings. No war crimes. However, no side had declared peace.

Charlotte was across the living room going to a shelf of books, while Weber looked outside without moving a muscle and he furrowed his brows.

Charlotte shot Weber a glance and thought about how he had stood there for hours.

He finally sighed and left the living to go upstairs.

As Charlotte kept her eyes glued to her book and waited for his steps to die down, she closed the book, tossed it aside and ran towards the door.

Gabrielle, a wraith that was in a pact with Weber, stopped her from touching the door.

Charlotte's color washed off as she froze in fear at what looked like a human with sickly pale skin, white irises and an air of white glow around her, which was what wraiths that were contracted with Weber looked like.

"You can't leave. Leave and you'll kill people." Gabrielle said, but Charlotte straightened up and clenched her fists, "you don't know that! If it's Foresight that Weber is worried about, it hasn't manifested in days!"

Andrej, another loyal wraith of Weber, appeared, "from what we know about Great Enigmas, calling them deceptive would be an understatement." The tall, red hooded wraith said.

Charlotte snarled, "I'm not just going to stay here. You two were once alive so you know that wars are endless. Is the sudden calm not threatening?"

Andrej and Gabrielle looked at each other, then they both shrugged, "regardless of the cause, just jumping out would be wise." Gabrielle said.

"Besides, this house has a mechanism that seems to stop and deceive anyone from tracking you or Weber, which is good," Andrej remarked.

"But unfortunately it makes us idle out here." Weber said walking down the stairs while running his hand through his head.

Charlotte whipped her head to him and stomped her foot on the ground, "I will not be held hostage!" She yelled, but Weber's expression was deadpan.

"If you want to go toe to toe against Shinto, a person that can fight against Captains, a fight, let my wraiths open the door." He said with a shrug.

"I'm the vessel of Foresight, a great Enigma. He can't stop me." Charlotte said while folding her arms.

"Great Enigmas don't care for you. They're just ego maniacs that jump from body to body cause without us they'll be unable to have any effect on the real world." Weber replied.

Charlotte was about opening her mouth to counter, but no words came out.

Before she was Foresight's vessel, Foresight was only giving prophecies but in terms of immediate physical contact, it could do nothing.

The same applied with the Abyss within Weber.

It can't come out of him and meet the dead to form contracts. It can only do that by giving its power to Weber.

"They exist but are not in this world." Weber said, his irises turning white and Charlotte's own irises turning golden.

Charlotte looked at her hands, "what's this feeling..."

"Foresight. And actually," Weber said folding his hands, "I think this is a good time to see Foresight at work."

"How do I use its power?" Charlotte asked, but Weber shrugged and replied, "you get power by revelation, by instinct. My past memories show that no amount of training will do any good."

Charlotte thought over his words for a moment and it was a reality she didn't want to sit with.

Cause then it meant that a Great Enigma vessel that's narrow minded will never increase in power.

"Foresight dealt with prophecies. But had no direct influence on the real world. Now that it does through you, what might you do with such power?" Weber asked her.

"Maybe we should take this outside?" Gabrielle suggested, then Charlotte's hands began glowing a yellow hue and she smirked at her, "no need."

She bent down and spread her palms over the floor and Weber's house vanished and the world around them turned white, then reality returned and they were in a valley, with a river, a bunch of trees that stood on both sides of the river and a waterfall in a distance.

Weber blinked, his face straight.

Then his eyes widened as he looked around and he gasped.

All Weber could sense was the spirit of dead animals, no sign of a human, and since he could only sense the dead, he was sure it was only creatures of the forest that was nearby.

Andrej and Gabrielle frowned, while nodding affirmatively.

Charlotte was looking around with her mouth wide open, but Weber was frowning, "well she learned fast."

"The Great Enigma is called Foresight." The Abyss, a cloaked figure with a form of smoke and white eyes underneath the hood said in Weber's consciousness.

"So cause of its nature, unlike that leaves me in an Abyss of mystery as usual, it gives her foresight, so she's likely to learn fast." The Abyss nodded affirmatively.

"Better unravel the mysteries I give you or the Title of Wraith Keeper, Vessel of the Abyss will no longer be feared." The Abyss said and Weber came back to his senses.

Charlotte had grabbed him by the shoulder and was shaking him, but he was too deep into his conversation with the Abyss to notice her.

"The fact I did this doesn't concern you?" She said yelling.

Weber rapidly blinked his eyes and took a deep breath and held her hands, "first of, how did you do this?"

Charlotte smirked, "I finally got your attention."

Weber grimaced, "the sooner you answer the better—" Charlotte cut him off by beginning her narration, which made Weber roll his eyes.

"As the ominous feeling within me increased back in your house, what you and your wraiths saw as a white glow, I was seeing a place I once came as a child." Charlotte said.

"And that place, I'm guessing, is here," Andrej remarked.

Charlotte nodded affirmatively.

"I felt the urge to feel the soil, the water of the river, the leaves," she said and spreading her arms and turning around and then her eyes turned bright yellow, "and above all, to make it a reality."

Weber held his chin in thought, "so we're either in the past cause of your ability, the future, another side of the world or in a dimension that your mind created or your memories."

As the theories were coming in and forming in Weber's mind, he couldn't help his stomach dropping.

Charlotte's elation ended as she thought about Weber's words.

Weber went down on one knee and felt the ground and closed his eyes and remained silent.

Charlotte squatted next to him and looked around.

"What are you looking for?" She asked.

Weber remained silent, then furrowed his brows, then opened them wide.

"Death sensing has never been a problem. Why is it all of a sudden?" He said looking around.

"Something is wrong with this plane in that case, cause your death sensing is more of a passive ability, so you're not expected to struggle to use it like this." Gabrielle remarked.

"True. I don't actively sense death, but passively." Weber said, looking around the plane and holding his chin.

One of the wraiths Weber had, a young man, appeared and Weber turned to him.

"Search the plane, tell me what you find." Weber said, feigning confidence.

The wraith shrugged and looked around and came back, "not possible, this place is enclosed with an impenetrable barrier."

Weber nodded, but for some reason, for the first time since he remembered, he was scared of his own wraiths.

All of a sudden, Gabrielle, Andrej and the young man that were his wraiths ashened Weber, which was unusual cause one of his passive abilities as Wraith Keeper was no fear of the paranormal.

The wraiths as well as Charlotte looked at Weber as he backed away from his wraiths, whom he fought alongside with countless times.

"Something is wrong with this place," Andrej said with a scowl and he vanished and reappeared in front of Charlotte with barely any space between their faces.

She squirmed and screamed at the apparition and she shot Weber a glance and saw that he shook when he looked himself in the river and upon seeing the reflection of his glowing eyes.

"Speak, or the Wraiths will make Foresight talk." Andrej said, his words echoing into Charlotte's mind like an apocalyptic chant.
