The academy gates were unguarded at this hour, which was exactly why Victor had picked it.
He met the others at the edge of the training yard while the sky was still more black than gray, the four of them dressed in whatever passed for practical clothing among students who technically weren't supposed to be doing this at all. Caleb had a bag slung over one shoulder, stuffed with enough dried food to suggest he was expecting this to take considerably longer than a single morning.
"You really think we're getting back before anyone notices?" Nyx asked, voice low.
"Doesn't matter if they notice," Victor said. "Matters if we're back before anyone can stop us mid-hunt."
"That's a distinction only you would find comforting."
