Chapter 8 - ❂8. Era of Starborns ( III ) ❂

World Government Military Command Centre.

Somewhere in Theater 1, a continent that was once known as Sika, known for its mineral rich lands and vast vegetation, now only a number in name.

"How could you let this happen..." A man slammed his hands onto the round table, spider web cracks diverging from the point of impact.

He growled, his gaze sharp.

The rest sitting around the table all looked at him, with furrowed brows and a look of understanding, their gazes sharply turning to one of their own.

The Chief of Defence, Viktor Atem.

"Sigh!!!" Viktor let out a tired breath as he sat up.

"As you can see, the unknown substance moved undetected into our atmosphere." He stood before a giant screen and with a pointer in hand pointed towards the purple patches on the screen.

The general, who had slammed the table earlier, gnashed his teeth in annoyance, unable to get a rise out of his superior.

He leaned back into his chair annoyed, caressing the scar on his left cheek.

The rest could only keep silent as they listened to their superior's explanation.

They did not have the same guts as the general.

They loved their jobs and life.

"...It should have been impossible as the passing meteorites were as far as the moon is from the planet..." He switched to satellite footage of the meteorites passing over the planet, and true to his words, they were far from the planet, scientifically impossible to leave any residue on the planet.

"General Patton, do you understand how... I could let this happen now..." Viktor turned to the general, his eyes narrowed, tone low yet full of authority.

"... " Patton could only pout, turning his gaze from Viktor.

The latter pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration.

He could not handle this guy.

Patton belonged to the Southern Alliance who had lost to them in the great war.

But due to his tactical strategies in battle, the current president of the world government decided to absorb him into their military.

Patton felt bitter because he had lost the war, but as a smart man he knew he could not do anything about it, but to him he was far more competent than any of the people here, especially his direct superior, greedily eyeing his position.

With such a thought in mind, whenever the chance came, he would lunge at it, trying to seemingly expose his leader's incompetence.

Each time he failed, but as a general of his calibre he never gave up, always making sure he was not in the path of insubordination but aggressive when given the platform.

"The past is gone, we need to find a way to neutralize the new threat..." The Fleet admiral's voice cut through the awkward silence.

The only woman in the group of men.

Her beauty truly matching her position, blue hair, sea blue eyes, and jade white skin.

Though she was in her late fifties she looked no older than a woman in her thirties.

Modified to keep her youthful appearance.

Salacia Kailani, the Navy Fleet Admiral.

Her intelligence was one of the main reasons for the glory of the Northern Alliance.

"Let us proceed." Viktor turned back to the huge screen, the image switching to live footage of chaos in the world.

He switched from image to image, video to video.

Each showing apocalyptic scenes seemingly from heroic comics, people showing signs of strange abilities, a few mild, the majority chaotic.

People with translucent skin, some covered in strange scale like armour, a few morphing into hybrids of animals and humans.

Some covered in blood as their bones grew out of their bodies.

The video of a girl kneeling in the eye of an irregular tornado, her hands covering her ears, mumbling inaudible words.

Another of a boy lying in a crater, the crater enlarging by the second as he seemed to sink into the ground under his own weight.

Most of the people with these bizarre abilities were confused, panicked and scared, a few relishing in their newfound abilities as they caused chaos, plundering, going around killing out of pure bliss.

"This is only a glimpse into the chaos caused by the strange dust..." He paused the images, combining all into a grid, which simultaneously displayed all of what he had shown.

The people present as heads of their various departments tried to keep their cool, yet their wide eyes betrayed their astonishment.

This seemed to be a scene from some heroic comics, an apocalypse signalling the birth of a new age.

"They all seem to be children..." Salacia commented.

"Yeah, this makes me believe this dust is a mutagen only affecting teenagers..." Viktor added.

And true to their beliefs, all of the people showing signs of bizarre abilities were teens, from the first case back in the wastelands of Theater 2, to all the cases across the world, they were all teens.

"We need to strike quickly. It does not matter if they are teens. As a new regime we need to handle this quickly before the remnants of the Southern Alliance make use of it..." Patton suggested.

The whole board nodding in agreement.

He was once part of the Southern Alliance and knew his people well.

"This chaos has been ongoing for three days. We need to deploy every available unit and bring it under control before the end of the month, otherwise it will escalate beyond our reach." Viktor gave his command.

"Roger!!" They all saluted and then proceeded to discuss measures to handle the situation.

They went back and forth for hours, finally arriving at the best solution, a solution that would increase their image in the eyes of the masses while they also reaped behind the stage.

All in agreement they went to their posts to put the plan into action, Viktor left behind.

He sank into his chair. "Boris, you were right, it is not something to worry about. We might reap a lot of benefits from this..." He smiled remembering the plan they had devised.
