The chamber stood in fractured silence. Cracks split the walls. Ancient lamps flickered, shadows trembling across stone columns. And at the center, where gods had once feared to stand—Mirshad lay unconscious. His body shimmered faintly. The light of creation itself dimmed, resting. Rayyan kneeled beside him, one hand pressed on his chest, the other gripping his brother's hand like a prayer made flesh.
No one spoke.
The Tribunal. The Dons. The warlords of forgotten kingdoms. The Reapers. All silent. They had all seen the same thing. The Soul Slayer had arrived. He had tried to consume Mirshad. He had failed. And then Mirshad had nearly awakened something the universe was not ready to face. "He screamed," one whispered, "and the sky cracked." "He opened his eyes… and stars bowed." "But why couldn't the Slayer take a single soul from us?"
The oldest Tribunal member turned. Quiet. Eyes heavy with time. "Because there is only one answer left." He walked from the hall, disappearing into the deep sanctum. The chamber opened by his voice alone. A book sat in a cradle of stone and gold. No ink. No title. It wasn't written. It had formed, during the first breath of the first god. "This book was never opened… because it opens on its own. When the edge of destruction draws near." He returned to the gathering and placed it beside Mirshad.
Everyone stepped back. The book trembled. Then it breathed. A golden light burst upward, surrounding the room like a dome of truth. Pages began flipping. And the words appeared on their own—burning in fire, speaking in silence. "The Slayer does not consume flesh. He consumes soul. Memory. Identity." "But when the Source walks among mortals… no soul may be taken." Eyes locked on Mirshad. "You're saying we survived… because he was here?" The book answered. "The Source protects all. Even in silence. Even unconscious. Even asleep." Another line followed. "As long as the Creator breathes, no devourer can feed. Not truly."
The oldest Tribunal member fell to his knees. "He protected us. Without even knowing." Another page turned. The flames dimmed. The words glowed in crimson. "But should the Slayer taste even a spark of the Source's memory…" "All things that ever were, will become one mind. One voice. His." They all looked at Mirshad, still unconscious, still glowing faintly. "What did we invite into this room?" a Don whispered. "The Soul Slayer didn't come to fight," said a Reaper. "He came to wait. To take." Another page turned. A truth flared like judgment. "The Slayer will return. Not for battle. But for the moment the Source is alone. Unguarded. Vulnerable."
