Night smothered the world.
The sky was swallowed by darkness, with no stars and no moon—only a thick, suffocating black that pressed down on the ruined city below.
Several fog-like figures floated high in that darkness.
Wherever they passed, destruction followed.
Buildings cracked and collapsed. Streets tore open. Light was devoured. The mere presence of those shadowy masses twisted the air into something heavy and poisonous.
People ran for their lives whenever they saw the darkness approaching.
Screams echoed through the empty avenues as families grabbed whatever they could and fled from the spreading fog. Some tripped. Some pushed each other aside. All of them knew that if the fog reached them, they were finished.
The fog-like figures showed no mercy.
They drifted slowly, almost lazily, but their attacks were swift and cruel. Black beams and tendrils shot down from the sky, striking those below.
"Insects," voices hissed, sharp and contemptuous.
