Kairo and Nyx made their first stop at the card mage police. From here Mirelle was taken in by specialised card mages for her wounds. Although Kairo didn't want to go back he had to. The mages were the best with healing cards and he could not do much to help her now.
After their wounds got treated , Kairo and Nyx returned to the villa in card paradise.
Kairo stretched his body and turned on the lights in the living room. It was so empty Kairo could hear the echoes of his breathing within. " some hard earned rest now awaits us " he said. After today's events ,all he wanted was to lie in his bed and sleep for an entire year.
" We think alike on this one. Is Magnus not already home ? " Nyx asked.
Kairo flashed an embarrassed smile when he thought of that. " no he wouldn't be coming home tonight we are alone " He said. When he thought of what his father said , Kairo was unsure on how to react.

An hour earlier .
After handing Mirelle to the card mages in charge. Kairo waited for Nyx in the corridor. She had asked for a few minutes alone before they left.
Standing in the hallway , he would walk back and forth in an attempt to calm his mind. After all the fighting his body had been over reactive pumped with adrenaline and he still needed time to cool down.
" Kairo can we talk for an instant " Magnus asked.
" okay " Kairo followed him outside
" you held the blazon of the card mage police high today. I am very proud of you son " Magnus said. With his back to Kairo.
This was one of those moments Kairo had been waiting for a very long time since he joined the card mages. However tonight he felt there was something more to this. " you didn't come here just to tell me this " He knew his father way too well. Although he could not read his mind he could somehow feel what he thought. And right now Magnus aura was leaking with disapproval. Kairo already had an idea why.
" What she did is unforgivable. Kairo. She didn't want you. Everything I did was to protect you from her claws. I didn't want you to suffer from my actions " Magnus said. His eyes still locked into the distance.
Kairo sighed in frustration. Moving to sit on the stairs at the entrance of the door. This would have been easier if they had told him the entire truth from the very beginning he felt. But what was done was already done. There was nothing that could be changed now. " You can't forgive her I get it " Kairo said. " But you can't force me to hate her either. Mirelle is my mother and that's all that matters to me now . You will have to accept it " Kairo said.
He could understand his father didn't want to forgive her but Kairo hated the fact he was trying to push him into the same abyss. He had lived his entire life with this desire to one day meet her. To talk to her and laugh with her.
Now that he had that chance he wasn't going to let his egoistic father prevent him from that. Magnus wasn't completely innocent in this. Given how strict he was , Kairo guessed it was one of the reasons Mirelle had come to such thoughts.
" If you forgive her you will feel better. It will not change what has been done. It will not make her a better mother. But it will make you a better father. " Kairo said.
Magnus was silent for a while. Seconds dragging into minutes. As if Kairo words had caused a brick in the carapace that he had worn all these years.
Kairo could feel his father was conflicted and thus didn't press him further. Deep inside Kairo was willing to believe they could one day reconcile with each other. He knew Mirelle still had feelings for him but what about his father. Could they return to a completely family ? .
" I understand then " Magnus sighed. " I will be absent until the raid on the island of card fossil is over. You have the house for you and Nyx. Just make sure to protect yourselves "
" protect ourselves ? " Kairo mind bugged for an instant. Unable to get the point of his father. The fight was over was there still any danger to be protected from ? .Even if Selis was daring she would attack him at home not with his father around.
" you're too young to get kids Kairo " Magnus insisted. unwilling to let Kairo follow the same path as him.
Kairo eyes widened in disbelief. " we haven't gotten that close yet. " Kairo shook his head vehemently. This was the first time his father cared about what happened to him outside of the card mage police. As though it really interested him.
Furthermore although they had been physically close a few times and even slept in the same room. It had never been more than that. Nor had Nyx ever mentioned anything about it. Thus Kairo said nothing either. Kairo was both embarrassed and surprised. Shaking his head he walked away regrouping with Nyx .
" Whatever " Magnus left afterward.

" I hate when you start day dreaming like this " Nyx said.
" sorry " Kairo flashed an embarrassed smile. 'if only she knew ' he thought. Only now did he take a minute to carefully look at her. Right out from battle her face was dusty with a few scratches here and there.
Nyx had been training as hard as Kairo thus had a lean and athletic build. Her now battered uniform accentuating her feminine aura. ' she is incredible ' Kairo thought inwardly.
" Time to get cleaned. We can't keep looking like pigs waiting to be prosecuted " Nyx clapped her hands together and left for upstairs. Recently the villa had become a little like her new home.
Few minutes later , the duo ordered food Kairo too tired to get to the kitchen. The night was spent in the calm away from the chaos of the fights and card magic. Just them affectionately leaning on each other on the sofa as they distracted themselves.
" back at the care center .my friends and I would remind ourselves to always try to show as much love as we could to our adoptive parents. Fearing we might get back there if we didn't " Nyx said.
Kairo tilted his head upward , drinking in the angelic face just above his head. With time she was slowly letting down all her barriers revealing more and more of her past to him. " guess you were pretty good at the game " he said
" it's not funny Kairo. I got the chance to awaken to card magic and here I am. I have never had the chance to ever say it but now I think I can " Nyx smiled at him. " I love you "
Kairo fell silent at those words. Clearly not expecting them to come out at this moment. He felt a tingle in his heart causing it to beat a tad faster. On their first meeting Kairo had been so annoyed by her he felt having her as partner would be a nightmare. However right at this moment there was a completely different feeling moving through his body.
Their eyes were locked into each other , straining out every other noise in the background. A moment they both wanted to never end. Their lips met in a tender kiss. The barriers finally shattered once and for all.

Early the next day , Kairo got up early , getting the house ready . Most of the time the maids came to the villa in the morning and left later before Kairo and his father went back. Today Kairo asked them to stay a little longer. Checking every corner of the house to see if it was perfect. Thanks to the efficient card mages , she could get out today and Kairo had decided to meet her here. This was a moment so important he wanted everything to be perfect.
" don't be so stressed. Kairo it's your mother. She is here for you not the house " Nyx reminded him.
" I can't stay in place. Do I look good ? Is my face right " Kairo kept asking again and again . Staring at himself in front of the mirror.
Nyx on her part was as lazy as a turtle. unwilling to get out of the bedsheets. " I too should be getting dressed. Hopefully she wouldn't disapprove of our relationship " Nyx said.
It wasn't a secret that Mirelle had been clearly against them before the prisoner escort. She didn't mention Kairo disobedience when he brought Nyx on the submarine. But after the fountain event Kairo was pretty sure her opinion had shifted.
" Don't worry. She only feared you might get to the same point she did. But I reassured her it will never happen. She is quite easy going after all. If we ignore her title as inquisitor , captain and doctor. She is just my mother " Kairo smiled. Finally the bell rang out loud. She was here.
