But tonight, the system itself had been quietly hollowed out from within.
One by one, the guards stationed along the perimeter received the same order through their communicators—gather immediately at the central ground. The command carried Zhou Kang's authority, leaving no room for refusal.
Naturally, they all moved.
Still, as groups of guards walked toward the open ground—the same area where prisoners were allowed to stretch their legs during the day—low conversations began to spread among them.
"What's going on?" one asked, adjusting the strap of his rifle.
"No idea. I also feel strange. Middle of the night and suddenly a gathering?" another replied, frowning slightly.
"Do you know the reason?"
